Chereads / Rise of the Dragon Emperor / Chapter 50 - Untrusted

Chapter 50 - Untrusted

Once the acceptance ceremony had come to a conclusion most of the students had decided to head back to their rooms and Druak was no exception to this.

'Damn, things keep getting crazier and crazier around her. I knew that there would be a lot happening this year but I didn't expect this much. Guess that's what happens when you're in a coma, you miss more than you realise.' In Druak's past life he was still in a coma and all the information he had gathered was from Isaac, which had only lasted in the academy for 2 years and didn't have nearly enough information about the ins and outs of the kingdom.

Druak had a lot he had to plan for, but the first thing on his mind was. 'What does that redhead want, and why is so secretive about the meeting place.' For now, Druak had to plan for the worst, as he didn't know if this girl was just like the other nobles and was just using this meeting as a place to ambush him.

Druak also wasn't too sure about this girl; first, she always seemed disgusted at almost everyone in the academy, and that cold expression on her face always made her look as if she would kill someone without hesitation. As Druak thought of all these things the first thing that popped into his head was. 'Yeah, not a chance in hell I'm trusting her.'

It was early morning and next to no students had woken up. Druak had spent the whole night thinking of any possible reason that cold-faced girl would have any reason to meet with him, especially so privately. The only conclusion Druak could come up with was that it was an ambush, but he had no choice but to go since there was a slim chance that the girl knew what had happened between them at the acceptance ceremony.

'Guess I've got no choice.'

Druak got off his bed and started heading towards the designated location of their meeting, making sure that no one was following him.

It was still incredibly early and Druak had expected to arrive first but he was surprised as when he arrived the first thing he saw was the cold-faced girl he had seen previously at the acceptance ceremony. The thing that surprised Druak most however was the complete constant in the girl's clothing, unlike her seductive and refined appearance at the ceremony, she now had a much more wild appearance, wearing armour made from the body parts of monsters.

"What are you gawking at! I didn't bring you here to stare at me."

Druak was completely disoriented from how direct she was, however quickly calmed down, and began looking around for a possible ambush.

Noticing this, Raya begins to get annoyed and her face contorts. "Are you stupid! If I wanted to get rid of you I wouldn't need to use an ambush." She looked at Druak and sized him up."You're too weak for that." Her annoyed expression slowly returned back to normal, as she was able to let off some steam.

Druak was shocked. He would have never thought some who seemed so refined would act this way. Then he realised something. 'Ahh. So you think you are above everyone here.' It made complete sense, she didn't even bother to show respect to the president. This allowed Druak to realise something which would give him a massive advantage if he had to face her in the future.

'She's at least ranked as high as a king's heir, yet she's hiding it. Let's give her a little push'

"Are you done acting like a child. Just tell me why you brought me here."

Almost instantly Raya's face contorted in rage, as flames burst out from her body. "What did you just…" She suddenly froze, as if she saw a ghost, and all her rage disappeared almost completely.

She looked towards Druak and noticed a slight grin on his face.'That as*hole was intentionally annoying me. Damn it… I almost fell right into his trap.'

Druak looked at her, pleased that she at least wasn't a complete idiot and could tell that it wouldn't be good for her to lose her calm. 'Guess she must be from a half-decent kingdom if she's able to calm down so quickly.'

Druak recalled the last heir he had seen, who was by far the most despicable human Druak had ever met. Druaks face contorted in anger. 'Gilgamesh!!!'

Raya saw this and she quickly brought her guard up, gripping at the sword on her waist. She soon calmed down after Druak's face returned to normal.

Noticing the awkward silence that he had caused Druak decided to start their conversation. "So. You know when we were in the hall. Do you know what caused that weird burst of mana to come out of us."

Raya looked at Druak and sighed."Huff. So you don't know what that was either."She looks down at the ground and thinks for a moment then looks back towards Druak."I was hoping you would know something, as I thought you were the cause."

"Yeah. I don't like that something happened to me that I don't know about." Druak had been worried about what had happened to him at the hall but had been avoiding thinking about it. However, now that he knew that not even Raya knew anything about it, he began to worry as whatever it was could put his life in danger.

Realising that Raya was no help in this matter, Druak didn't want to waste any more time on this arrogant girl. "If that's all you have to say, I'm going. I've got classes to go to." What Druak said was true but he wanted to leave more due to the fact that he just didn't like the kind of person Raya was. Someone that thought she was above everyone else and had probably lived a peaceful life with a golden spoon in their mouth.

As Druak turned around to walk away he heard Raya call out."Wai. Wait. I need your help for something else."

Druak turned around, surprised by the desperation that Raya's voice had."What is it. If it's nothing important I'm leaving."

At first, Raya had thought that Druak was like all the others in the academy and just wanted to get close to her since she was powerful. She came to this conclusion after seeing Druak gawking at her both at the training grounds and at the acceptance ceremony, but now that she had a face-to-face conversation with him she quickly realised that Druak was in fact completely different from anyone she had met within this academy.

Realising that Druak wouldn't wait much longer, Raya crudely blurted out. "I need your help stopping those idiots raiding the Dragon nest."

Druak froze. It was as if he was incapable of walking away from Raya, in fact, he looked as if he was completely frozen just because of the shock of what he had just heard.

"Wait, so you want me, who has just reached the first stage to help you in stopping the president of an entire academy, and one of the strongest mages in the Argonaut kingdom. I don't know if you realise this but that sounds kinda stupid."

'Although I had the same idea in mind. The difference is that I already know what the future holds. Why is someone who doesn't know this taking such a risk. And why ask for my help.'

As if reading his thoughts, Raya pointed at Druak. "You're mana. It's too pure for you to be normal, and if you help me I'll teach you how to properly use it."
