Chapter 1

Born

Beth's POV

On the 24/08/1981 at five minutes past midnight the screams of the newborn baby girl to the very proud first-time young mother of 25 years old filled the hospital rooms in the child ward.

Beth was a first-time mother, and when she heard her baby girl screaming her lungs out, she burst into tears of joy, asking the staff to please call in the baby's farther so that he could meet his princess for the first time.

Beth's partner and the father of the child was 25 years her peer. The couple was the talk of the small town that they lived in. Some calling Beth a home wrecker, others called her a gold digger, but never has she been called something good since they went public with their relationship.

Beth was extremely sensitive to all these stories in town about her and hoped that the new baby would snub the nasty stories. For nine months she has been dreaming about the baby and imagining the joy the three of them would have as a happy little family.

Admittedly she had hoped that her first child would be a boy, and to say that she was upset when the doctor first revealed the baby's gender, would be an understatement. In fact, Beth was so upset, that she had called the father immediately and informed him that she in fact wanted an abortion right away. In her insanity he was her voice of reason, and she eventually made peace with the baby's gender.

For nine months she watched her tummy grow, she felt every kick and turn, Ralph, her husband, was kicked of their bed at least twice a week if he dared to lay to close to her tummy at night, it was clear to both that little Ariel wanted her space.

The nursery was a beautiful pink haven with butterflies everywhere, it was not her first choice, but she had to let Ralph also have his influence in the babies' room.

It took Beth months to decide on a name for her baby girl. It had to be the perfect name. Ralph had no say in the name at all, she would not allow it. In her mind the butterflies in the nursery were more than enough, the rest was all her duty, and she would make sure that her first born had everything that she needed, including the perfect name.

Ralph's POV

Finally, he heard his baby girl screaming, and the next minute a nurse came bursting into the hall to find him waiting just outside the room. He had been summoned by Beth. He was finally going to meet Ariel. He could not remember feeling this excited about the birth of a child in the past, and he has been through this three times already. He wished that the divorce had been finalized before Ariel's birth, but his ex was doing everything in her power to delay the process. Not surprisingly as she had told him numerous times that she would not allow that black gold digger to destroy her family.

They all saw Beth as the home wrecker, the whole damn town believed that Beth was going to destroy his life, and everyone tried to "warn" him. They said that she was not normal, that she had an evil mind, and that he was the only one that could not feel the evil presence that emanated from her, because she had bewitched him somehow. Ralph believed none of it, and told everyone that he has not been bewitched, he was in fact deeply in love. They did not know the difference because they have never experienced something so pure. The town was made up of the rich marring into more wealth, there was a line that was not to be crossed.

Life has not been the same for him since they decided to go public with their relationship. Suddenly the whole town had something to say about his personal life. He was dropped out of all the social events that had been planned in the town. He was now known as the rich man that cheated on his rich wife with their poor domestic worker, and that his presence at any social event bought bad publicity to the event.

Today however was different, today when he set eyes on his beautiful baby girl for the first time, his whole world aligned. He fell in love instantly. She looked like an angel, and once again he wished that he had insisted on that name instead. He still could not understand Beth's obsession with the name Ariel, but he has had seven months to get use to the name, and now he could not imagine any other name for her.

The doctor congratulated the happy couple, and informed Ralph that there had been no complications with the birth, after the night's observation he would be able to take them both home the next day, when Ralph looked over at Beth to see her reaction to the news, she was fast asleep. So, he gently laid Ariel in her baby cot next to her mother's bed and left the room to find the nearest exit, he needed a smoke break. However, before he could reach the door, the hospital's secretary called out to him. He turned in the direction of her voice, and before she could open her mouth the cameras started flashing at thousand pictures a minute. What the hell, the whole world's press was outside waiting for him. How were there so many cameras? The town only had one local newspaper, and only one reporter to whom Ralph has been well acquainted to. So where did the rest of them come from? He decided that he would have to find another route out of the hospital so that he could reach his car without hassling his way through all the press.

Chapter 2

The New Baby

Beth's POV

It was time to go.

Today Ralph would be coming to get them to take them home. Beth could not wait to be in her own space with her new baby, no more hovering nurses interfering on everything that she is doing. She could not handle it anymore, she hated the fact that they told her how to hold her baby, or how to feed her, but she totally lost it when the youngest nurse had the mordacity to tell her that she almost drowned the baby while she was giving her a bath and washing her hair. The child would not stop crying, and Beth saw that if she threw a bit of water over her face she would stop for a short while, and so she kept on throwing water over her face, that's when the nurse happens to walk into the bathroom, because obviously the place did not have keys in the door locks.

The moment the nurse opened her mouth to say something, Beth screamed at her to get out, and she would not allow her to come in unless she knocked and waited for permission to enter, as she was supposed to do in the first place. As the nurse started protesting, Beth raised her voice even louder, and soon the warden was there to see what was going on, Beth did not give the nurse a speaking chance, and stated her case before the nurse was able to get one word out, obviously the warden sided with Beth, as patience privacy was highly appreciated at the hospital, and the young nurse was reprimanded for her misdemeanor, and Beth was awarded her privacy in the bathroom with the baby.

After all the drama, and everybody had left her room. Beth wrapped the baby in a bath towel and let out the water in the tub, for just in case the nurse came back and had the guts to try and demonstrate how Beth was "drowning" the baby.

At least the child had finally stopped crying now, Beth hated the sound it made when it was crying, she kept telling her, "Stop crying, you look ugly when you are crying, and the sound is irritating to my ears!" As soon as she was at home, she would figure out how to make the baby listen to her. She felt like she needed to get a handle on the child's emotions before it was too late. The baby had to know who the adult was from the very beginning that was the only way to make sure that the child never defies you. It is what her grandfather had taught her, and now she could pass on all she had learnt from him to the baby.

She had just finished putting the last of her things into her bag, when there was a familiar knock on the door, it was Ralph she could feel his presence. "Come in." she called, and there he stood at the door smiling. He asked her: "Ready to go home?" and she replied: "can't wait."

As they left the hospital Ralph was sure to thank the staff. Luckily there was no press today at the hospital. Ralph made sure that his reporter got the story first, it was the only sure way he could think to make sure that no one else got a hold of the story and published false information.

In the Baby's room, Beth lay the child in its crib, and sat down in the rocking chair next to it to catch her breath for a minute. While sitting there she looked around the baby room, and once again she was disgusted with the hideous number of butterflies all around it. She decided that as soon as the baby was two years old, she would renovate the room.

Her thoughts were interrupted by another thing she despised, the annoying crying of the child, this meant that she now had to give it attention, and right now she felt as if she had better things to do with her time. So, she got up from the rocking chair, and walked out of the baby room, closed and locked the door behind her, and headed downstairs to the kitchen to go find Ralph, but when she got there, she only found a note on the kitchen table. Ralph had to go back to work urgently, this suited her just fine. As she put the kettle on, she listened to hear if she could still hear the baby crying, but all was silent upstairs.

This was the babies' first lesson, the child must realize that she will not be put on its schedule, it should be the other way around, and the child should learn to fit into her schedule. So, after she had made her coffee, she head upstairs to her bedroom with the on-suite bathroom, she felt like she need an hour soak in the tub. Whatever the child's problem was it would have to wait till after her bath.

As soon as Beth's body slipped into the warm inviting bath water, she felt all the stress soak out, and she could finally relax, she closed her eyes and listened to the familiar sounds from within the house, and outside. The silence was blissful. Beth lay soaking in the tub until the water turned cold, and she had to get out. When she walked out of the bathroom, into her bedroom and saw her bed, she simply could not resist its call, so she got dressed into her favorite sleep wear and snuggled under the covers, and before she could finish counting to ten, she fell into a deep slumber, oblivious to the world around her.

Chapter 3

The Sickness

Ralph's POV

This was not the plan; Ralph had made sure that everybody at the office knew that he would not be there today. He wanted to make sure that Beth and the baby are settled in before he returned to work, but as Beth was putting down the baby, they called him and told him that there was a fire at one of the warehouses. So, he left at short note on the kitchen table telling Beth that he would be back as soon as possible.

He planned on simply assessing the damage, the rest was up to his staff that is after all what he paid them for. From what they told him; the fire had happened at warehouse number 5. This warehouse was housing 10 bran new Mercedes Benzes that where to be distributed to 5 different show rooms across the country. This was going to test his staff's crises management capabilities to the fullest.

As the warehouse came into Ralph's view, he saw that it was in fact still burning, the firefighters were fighting their best fight to distinguish the fire, but unfortunately there was not much left to save. Ralph headed straight for the security office, he hoped that the head of security had already recover the camera footage of the past 24 hours, the insurance would require it. When Ralph entered the security office, he saw Dave behind the CCTV screens and after greeting him, Ralph turned his attention to the monitors. He found the one that displayed the camera facing the burnt warehouses doors, and asked Dave to fast forward it until they could see the start of the fire, and as Dave did as Ralph had requested while watching the screen they saw a dark figure approaching the warehouse door, the figure was dressed completely in black, and when he or she turned their head directly towards the camera, you could see nothing but their eyes, and due to the light reflection the persons eyes appeared red. As they carried on watching the footage, they saw how the person picked the lock to the warehouse doors, gaining access, shortly after you could see the building start to burn.

Ralph turned to Dave and said: "This needs to go to the police so that they can try and figure out the identity or the person, I will call Rebecca to get the ball rolling for the insurance. Right now, I am leaving I need to go home to check on my newborn and her mom. I will be back at the office tomorrow."

When Ralph entered the house, all was quiet, he went upstairs to go check on the girls, first he went to his bedroom, when he opened the door, he saw Beth sound asleep on the bed, but without the baby, so he closed the bedroom door and went to go check on the baby. When Ralph tried opening the baby's door, he was not able to, and he wondered why Beth would have locked the door. He turned back to the bedroom; he needs to wake her to get the key. He went to the bed and touched her shoulder, she stirred and when she opened her eyes she smiled when she saw him.

Beth: "Hi, you made it back home so early? Did you get the emergency sorted?"

Ralph: "I will tell you about it later, right now I need you to please give me the key to the baby room's door."

Beth: "What? What do you mean? What key? You know there never was a key in that door!"

Ralph: "Beth the door is locked, I am not able to go into the baby's room, what have you done?"

Beth: "I have not done anything; I DID NOT LOCK THE DOOR!!!!"

Ralph: "Why are you screaming? What is wrong with you? I am going to break down the baby room door!"

Beth: "Ralph, wait! If you do that you will make a noise and will wake her, she's safe and sound asleep right now, let's wait until she wakes up before we upset her, please?"

Ralph: "I feel like we need to check on her now, I want to see her!"

Beth: "She is fine Ralph; do you know how long it took me to get her settled down? You have no idea how tired I am! Please I need the quiet for just a little while longer?"

Ralph: "Then lay down to sleep a while longer, I will take care of her, but right now I am going to break down the door to check on her, if it wakes her then I will take care of her until you have gained back your energy."

Just then Ralph heard the phone ringing in the kitchen.

Beth: "You should go answer the phone!"

Ralph: "I will call back whomever it is, right now I want to make sure that my child is safe!"

Beth: "GO ANSWER THE GOD DAMN PHONE RALPH!"

It was at that moment that Ralph realized that there was something wrong with Beth, this is not the Beth he met and fell in love with two years earlier, this woman and his Beth where not the same person. The look in her eyes while she was screaming at him to go answer the phone was not a look he had ever seen in Beth's eyes before today. He did not like the feeling he got when she looked at him like this, it was not a welcoming feeling at all. For the first time since he had met Beth the look, she now had in her eyes made the hairs on the back of Ralph's neck raise, and he felt that familiar feeling of his survival instincts kicking in, the same feeling he got back when he had fought in the war and the bombs started dropping around his secret hiding place.

It was his best weapon he had back then, and the only way that he had managed to survive the war.

Chapter 4

The First Signs

Ralph's POV

This was not a war zone, he would not be able to react the same way as he had in the war in a situation like this, and back then it was fight or flight.

He knew he had to fight, but he would not be able to run away.

So, he closed the bedroom door, trapping Beth inside the room with him, then he crossed the room and gently took hold of Beth's shoulders, looked her in the eyes and said:

Ralph: "Beth, I need you to stop screaming, calm down so that we can figure out how we are going to get the door open to the baby's room."

That's when Beth started crying, she was crying so hard that Ralph could not understand what she was trying to say. So, he did the only thing that he could think of doing at that point, he took her in to his arms and held her until she finally started calming down, and just when her sniffling had subsided enough for him to finally be able to understand what she wanted to tell him, the doorbell rang. The sound woke the baby, and they both heard her screaming behind the locked door.

Beth: "Please go answer the door, I will go check on Ariel, and please I don't want whomever it is to see me in this state."

Ralph: "But you will not be able to open the door?"

And just then the doorbell rang again and again and again, and Ralph said to Beth as he ran out the room, I will be right back.

Beth listened as he ran down the stairs, and immediately she got out of the bed, took the key from under her pillow and ran to the baby room. She unlocked the door as quickly as she could, and made her way to the crib, picked up the baby and sat down in the rocking chair to feed her.

Ralph opened the door and Dave stood before him.

Dave: "I need to talk to you urgently, we got a face recognition on the person that started the fire at the warehouse. It was your wife!"

Ralph: "That's impossible, she was still in hospital."

Dave: "I know, that is why I requested the CCTV footage of the hospital entrance of that time period, Ralph she is seen leaving the hospital in that exact outfit, and the time frame matches the time frame of the fire exactly."

Ralph: "Who else at the office knows about your discovery?"

Dave: "No one!"

Ralph: "Good, keep it to yourself for the time being, I need time to figure out what's going on first. Thank you, Dave, I will see you tomorrow."

With that Ralph closed the door, and turned back towards the staircase, but before he climbed the first step, he suddenly felt very weak in the knees, and he had to go sit down on the step for a minute. It was all so overwhelming, why did Beth set fire to his warehouse, it did not make sense. He knew he would not be able to confront her about it until he saw it himself, he had to make sure that Dave was telling the truth, although he knew that Dave would not lie to him about it.

So, for now he decided that he first needed to check on the baby, so he pulled himself upright and went upstairs to the baby room, there he found the door open and Beth standing at the changing table busy changing Ariel, as he stepped over the threshold he noticed the key in the door, and he heard Beth's voice in his head:

"What? What do you mean? What key? You know there never was a key in that door!"

Why was she lying? He didn't say anything about it and decided to wait. He first needs to review the footage of Beth's arson, then he planned on hiring a private investigator to track her movements. She was up to something, and he needed to know what it is as soon as possible. But for now, he needed to be in the moment, otherwise he might give his game away.

So he walked over and stood next to her at the changing table, gently touching babies little feet, this made her giggle with glee making him in turn smile, Beth quickly finished and handed the baby to Ralph, he took her gently into his arms, and snuggled her close to his chest, his eyes never leaving hers, they both had huge grins on their faces, as Beth watched Ralph interact with the baby, her heart suddenly felt a stab of intense jealousy towards the child, and along with it came a vivid image of Ralph walking away from her with his back towards her holding the baby close to his chest as she sat on her knees crying after him. Right there and then Beth made up her mind that she needs to get rid of the child. She would never allow any other woman to come between her and her man, not even if it was his own spawn.

Ralph looked into his baby's eyes and the rest of the world faded away, for that moment it was just the two of them. Ralph could not recall ever having this same intense love for a child the way he felt about her, his previous three children never evocated this intense an emotion in him. Although admittedly the relationship of which the kids where born was turbulent, and every time Ralph's ex made a pregnancy announcement, Ralph remembered feeling extremely stressed, and scared.

This was different, all he felt was love, and protectiveness for this baby. Maybe this was something that he should bring up with his therapist at his next session, he loved all his children, but felt that he might need guidance.

Chapter 5

Slowly Escalating

Ralph's POV

Ralph left the house earlier that morning than he normally did, he did it on purpose. When he left the house, he made sure to check in the baby room's door for the key, but it was no longer there, luckily, he had made an imprint of the key the night before. He was going to have an extra copy cut today, and this is where he was heading right now. Then he needed to go back to the office to review the footage that Dave had discovered, he really hoped that there was some huge mistake, he had been over it a million times in his head, and no amount of self-doubt, or imagined scenarios resulted in an explanation of some kind, why would Beth do something like this, what was the purpose of it? And what was the story behind the baby room key? Why did Beth lie to him?

Once again Ralph decided that he needed to stop asking himself the same questions repeatedly, and instead he should rather focus on his already actioned plan. So, his first stop was at the locksmith, once he had a copy of the key, he headed straight for the office. In the office he told Rebecca to get Dave with the footage into his office right away.

Together they watched the hospital footage of Beth's room, and later her exiting the main entrance to the hospital, and then returning about an hour and a half later. The face recognition was spot on, and the camera's clearly showed Beth's face.

However, the cameras at the arson could not provide an accurate face recognition because of the ski mask on Beth's face, and as Dave pointed out, the time line matched to the very last second.

At the private investigator's office Ralph instructed the P.I. that he needed him to watch his wife, and record all her movements for a while, after giving the P.I. all the relevant information, he left for his next stop.

At the IT shop, Ralph found a young salesman, and told him what he was looking for, Ralph almost had a heart attack when the salesman gave him the price of the item he wished to purchase, but Ralph took out his credit card and bought the item anyway. He needs it for the baby's safety.

By the time that Ralph finally pulled up in front of the house, and realized the time, he saw that it was dinner time already. He got out the car and walked in the front door calling out to Beth.

Beth's POV

Ralph left the house earlier than he normally leaves, and that suited her just fine. Today she was going to start putting her plan into action.

Her first planned stop was the pharmacy. So, she got out of bed and went to the baby's room, after confirming that the child was still asleep, she took out the key and locked the door. She then went to go get ready for her planned day.

At the pharmacy, Beth ran into an off-duty nurse, she was also in the delivery room the day Arial was born, naturally the stupid cow wanted to know all about how the newborn was doing, and about all the other boring stuff that concerned new mothers and babies, and then the question came of where was the baby now? Beth told her that the child was visiting its granny for the day, and she decided to stick to that story as she went about her other errands. Her next stop was the hairdressers. There she spent most of the morning getting a mani & pedi as well.

When she was done, she left the salon feeling like a new person, and simply could not resist the urge to go to the casino, this was her favorite pass time, she loved the thrill she would get from chasing the wins, Ralph once made her confess to him that she had a gambling addiction, after that he had made her promise that she would stay away from the casino, that's why this was her close guarded secret, she paid the casino staff handsomely for their silence. That's way for the past year Ralph has been none the wiser about her addiction, and this gave her the confidence that he would never find out about it. That day she gambled to heart's content, until the day shift staff came to greet her at their shift's end that she realized that it was already 10 to 8 the evening, she had a slight breakdown when she realized that this meant that Ralph would already be at home, but quickly calmed down to formulate the lie she had to tell Ralph, she knew that he would be livid if he happened to figure out that she had left the baby unattended the whole day.

At the reception area of the casino, she requested a cab, and as she patiently waited for it to arrive, she rehashed her planned lie. So, when the cab pulled into her street, she instructed the driver to drop her a couple of houses away. Once the cab was out of sight, and she had scanned the street to make sure that there were no witnesses, she ducted behind a wall. When she re-immerged, she ran full speed towards the house crying and screaming at the top of her lungs.

Beth: "SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME, ANYBODY PLEASE HELP ME, RALPH, RALPH, WHERE ARE YOU? PLEASE ANYBODY HELP ME!!!!"

Ralph opened the front door and saw Beth come running down the street, she looked as if she had just come out of the gutter somewhere. He was still harboring the anger he felt from discovering that she had left the baby alone, in a locked room. However, when he saw the state that she was in, he was shocked.

Chapter 6

Sifting Through the Chaos

Ralph's POV

Ralph: "Beth, what happened?"

Beth: "Ralph, they came into the house, they wanted to take the baby. I locked the door so that they were not able to take her, and then the men said, that if they can't take the baby, then they would just take me instead, so they loaded me into a van. At the first light that they stopped, I jumped out of the car, and started running and screaming, but no one came to help me."

Ralph: "Come inside so that I can make you some sugar water so that you can calm down, then I will take you to the hospital so that the doctor can make sure that you are okay."

Beth: "No, please no more hospitals! Please I did not hurt anything, it looks worse than it is, I promise. Please all I need now is a long bath, and then I need you to hold me until I fall asleep. Please?"

Ralph: "Okay. If that is what you want."

Ralph saw the lies in her eyes, he knew that what she had claimed, had in fact not happened at all, and he would find out the truth.

So, for now he was going to listen to all her lies, and let her believe that he believes her, so he told her to go get in her bath, while he attended to the baby.

Finally he could hear Beth breathing deeply, indicating to him that she had fallen asleep, so he carefully lifted himself out of the bed, went straight to the baby's room, gently so as not to wake her, he lifted the baby out of the cot, and secured her into her car seat, then he opened the closet and took the bag that he had packed and hidden there earlier, walked out the front door got into his car and drove away.

The roar of Ralph's car woke Beth, as she sat straight up in the bed, she listened to Ralph's car drive away from the house. She jumped out of the bed and ran to the window to see Ralph's taillights as he drove away, she then turned around and ran straight to the baby's room, only to find the door wide open and the cot and closet completely empty.

This was her breaking point, Ralph had left her, and had taken her child with him.

Ralph drove straight to Dave's house. He pulled up to the front door and rang the bell and waited.

Dave: "Ralph? Are you okay, what are you doing here with the baby?"

Ralph: "Dave, I am sorry to disturb you this late at night, but I desperately need your help, please my friend?"

Dave: "Please come in and have a seat, I will ask the wife to make us some coffee, and then we can talk."

Ralph: "Thank you Dave."

Now that Ralph knew that baby was safe for the night, he was readying himself to go to battle once he was back home. He saw the bedroom curtain move as he drove away from the house, he knew Beth had woken up, and he was sure that she had discovered that he had taken the baby and all her clothes, he doubted that she would have gone back to bed, so he was surprised, and grateful when he pulled into the driveway and saw that the house was dark. He unlocked the front door as quietly as he could, and went straight to the living room's couch, he needs to catch a couple of quick hours of sleep so that he could have enough energy to face Beth.

He had already planted the two hidden spy cam's he had bought earlier the day at the tech shop, in the house, and since he did not hear any movement upstairs, he was sure that Beth had not heard him returning home, so this was his only time to rest a bit. He lay down on the couch and closed his eyes.

Ralph felt like he could not breathe, and when he opened his eyes, he looked straight into the eyes of evil, and discovered the reason why he felt like he could not breathe. Beth was standing above him with her hands around his neck. He maneuvered and managed to get her with her hands behind her back and held her in a chock hold position while moving towards the phone so that he could call the police.

She was like a wild animal, and he could not make any sense of what she was saying. Her eyes would not stay still for even a second, and she kept kicking and wriggling trying to break lose. All while hitting and kicking him as well. Finally, Ralph managed to get the police on the line, when they arrived at the house Ralph was still holding Beth, but he was full of cuts and scratches, and Beth was still screaming and cursing as the police officers loaded her into the van. When they closed the door, they turned to Ralph and got his statement, and then they told him that they would call in a doctor to evaluate her the following day, but for the night she would be kept at the station in a cell.

It was clear to everyone present that Beth had a big problem. In the house Ralph got on the phone and called his therapist, it was really early, so he was not too surprised when there was no answer, he decided to make himself a coffee, and go have a shower then he would try again, he also needed to go pick up Ariel, and then he needed to call Rebecca to let her know that he would not be in the office again today. He planned on stopping at the P.I.'s after he had picked up Ariel. Then he needs to start looking for a babysitter or a kindergarten to put Ariel in. He had no intention of going to the police station today, he would rather wait for them to call him.

Chapter 7

The Pretty Doctor

Beth's POV

She cried herself to sleep right there in the Baby's room on the floor.

When she woke up the next morning, she felt like she had not slept at all, her body hurt, but not as much as her head. So, when she went downstairs and found Ralph asleep on the couch, the hate and anger overwhelmed her, and it felt like something snapped in her head, and suddenly it was as if she lost all control.

As she was laying on the cold floor of the prison cell, she tried piecing all the fragments together, but no matter how hard she tried it all would not come together to form a complete picture for her, and as a result she could not stop crying.

When the doctor came to see her and asked her to describe what had happened, she told her that she could not remember a single thing, she just remembers getting off the floor of the baby's room, and then she found herself on the floor in this prison cell. The doctor then told her that she would start the process of having her transferred to the hospital so that they can do a full evaluation of her mental state.

Ralph's POV

He had managed to find a kindergarten for Ariel, and today was her first day. Ralph had already packed her school bag the night before and made sure that everything that was on the list that the kindergarten had given was packed in it, and as he was busy gently waking her so that he could change and feed her before he dropped her at the kindergarten, the doorbell rang.

When Ralph answered the door with Ariel in his arms, he was faced with the most beautiful woman he had ever seen, she was gorgeous, her eyes where the same color of a clear blue summer's day sky, her hair hung down her shoulders like a silky black vial.

Ralph: "Hallo?"

Kim: "Mr. Ralph Schneider?

Ralph: "That's correct."

Kim: "Mr. Schneider, my name is Doctor Kimberly Attington, I am here to ask you some questions regarding your wife, and the night she attacked you, is now a good time for you to talk to me, or can we make an appointment for later?"

Ralph: "I need to get Ariel to the kindergarten, it is her first day and I do not want her to be late, and then I need to get myself to work. Would it be possible for you to meet me at the office a little later?

Kim: "Sure no problem, where is the office?"

Ralph: "It is the big glass building in the middle of the town."

Kim: "Great, I will see you there at 10h00. Goodbye Mr. Schneider."

With that Ralph watched her as she turned around and got back in her BMW and drove down the street. Ralph looked down at Ariel and said: "That was a very beautiful woman my love, but she will never be able to outshine your beauty." And he kissed her on her forehead, making her giggle. He loved that sound.

Kim's POV

When Kim pulled up in front of Mr. Schneider's house she had to sit outside in the car to admire the handsome house in front of her for a while. She loved the vintage look, the garden was small but immaculate, and it had a warm welcoming vibe to it. She loved it.

She walked up to the front door, rang the bell, and waited. When the door opens her eyes were pleasantly surprised and the handsome silver fox that answered the door. She noticed he was shirtless, and his muscular arms where cradling an adorable little baby wrapped in a pink blanket. His voice was deep and strong when he greeted her, and as she was forming the words in her head, she could hear herself stutter, luckily when she opened her mouth her voice was soft and the words came out coherently, and as she made eye contact she noticed his unique eye color, it reminded her of a topaz ring she had once gotten from her granddaddy, she loved that ring. While they were talking, he shifted the baby from on arm to the next, and Kim was able to catch a glimpse of his eight pack, and she briefly wonder how many hours he spent in the gym. She also decided that she had better come to a point before her thoughts started wondering into uncharted territory.

So when he said that she should come by later, she was relieved because this would give her time to get her shit together for the business at hand, and so she promptly made her way back to her car.

At 09h45 she pulled up to the entrance of the only big glass building in the town. After parking her car, she walked up to the receptionist, after stating her name the receptionist told her that Mr. Schneider was expecting her and that she would take her to his office. Together they got into the elevator and Kim saw her press the button to the 10th floor. When the doors opened she followed the receptionist to a big office down the hall, and waited behind her as she knocked on the door, when the person on the other side said they may enter the receptionist held the door open for Kim, and said to Ralph: "Sir your 10 o clock appointment is here. "

As Kim stepped over the threshold into his office, Ralph got up from behind his desk, and made his way towards the door and said: "Thank you Rebecca." Rebecca nodded and shut the door again, Ralph shook Kim's hand and indicated to her to have a seat on the couch that faced the ,roof to floor, window looking over the small town, and as she settled into the couch, he asked her if she would like to have a coffee, when she said that she would, she watched as he made his way to the small bar at the back of the office, he took out two cups from the top shelf above it, and one after the other filled them at the espresso machine just below the shelf where he had taken the cups from. As Kim watched him make the coffee she once again was impressed by the man's impressive looks, his suit was tailor made and fit him to a tee, and she thought to herself, he is a very good-looking silver fox.

It was only when she heard him laugh out loud, and thank her that she realized she had said her thought out loud.

Chapter 8

The Diagnosis

Ralph's POV

Dr. Attigton had just admitted that she thinks I am a hunky silver fox, and I have to admit that I am totally flattered. She herself is really easy on a man's eyes, but she is here to give me a diagnosis of my wife, she also knows that my baby girl is only a few days old, so her comment is taken lightly, and we both have a good laugh about it.

Then she gets down to business.

Kim: "Mr. Schneider do you have any objection to me recording this meeting?"

Ralph: "No, but I would like to request that you please call me by my first name?"

Kim: "Fine, if you promise to do the same for me?"

Ralph: "Settled."

Kim: "Ralph, please tell me in as much detail as you can remember, what was the emotional state of your wife the night that she attacked you?"

Ralph: "On that day I had left the house really early, I had a lot to do that day, and only returned late the evening, I did not see my Wife when I left the house that morning, and when I got home that evening I found the baby locked in her room, she was dirty and hungry, it looked like she was still in her sleep wear from the night before, indicating that Beth had not attended to her at all for the whole day. I was livid, and just as I had finished cleaning and feeding my child, I heard screaming outside in the street, when I opened the front door I saw Beth come running down the street screaming for help, her clothes were ripped and she was covered in filth from head to toe, but underneath all the filth, I notice that she had a fresh manicure & pedicure, and that her hair had been died a different color. When I asked her what had happened she told me that some men had tried to kidnaped Ariel, and that she saved her by locking the bedroom door, and that this caused the men to kidnap her instead. She escaped from the car when they stopped at a traffic light, and she came running and screaming for help."

Kim: "Why did you not take her to the hospital?"

Ralph: "That was my intentioned, but she refused to go, she said that she is fine, and that she had not been hurt, and all she need was a hot bath, and for me to hold her until she fell asleep, so that is what she got. When I was sure that she was asleep, I slipped out of the bed to go and get Arial, I wanted to take her to a safe place for the evening, I did not feel that she was safe there the evening, and I was still upset with Beth for leaving her alone at home the whole day."

Kim: "Ralph, I have evaluated Beth, and I believe that she is suffering from a mental health issue, I have moved her from the prison to the hospital, she is in the mental facility where I will be keeping her for a couple of days, until we have a diagnosis."

Ralph: "Thank you, Kim. I do however need to inform you that Beth has an addiction as well, a gambling addiction. I believe that the day of the attack she was at the casino, but I will only have confirmation of this later today. Do you think that her fear of me finding out the truth was what caused her to want to kill me?"

Kim: "Have the two of you spoken about her addiction, and what are the steps that you have put in place to help her overcome her addiction?"

Ralph: "We did speak about it once, she promised me that she would stop, and I took her by her word. I have no action plan in place to help her get over it, as she made me believe that she was in control, and would be able to keep her promise to me."

Kim: "Do you love Beth?"

Ralph: "Yes, very much. But I am hurt and scared, not for my safety, for Ariel's safety. The night of the attack was not the only time that Beth had locked her in her room and left her unattended for the day. The previous time that it happened, Beth lied to me about having a key for Ariel's bedroom door, I had to have a copy made that she did not know about, that is how I got into Ariel's room the night of the attack, I still have not been able to find the original key."

Kim: "What was Beth's reaction the day that Ariel was born?"

Ralph: "She broke down in tears when Ariel was born, when I asked her why she was crying she simply said because she is happy, however the first night at home with Ariel was really hard, because we had this huge blow out when I got home and found Ariel's room door locked. I should have realized then that something was not right."

Kim: "I believe that Beth might also be suffering from the baby blues, so I will look into that as well. Ralph, I just want you to know that I will do everything in my power to get Beth on the right healing path, so that she can be the amazing mother and wife that you need her to be, and I will be there for you every step of the way."

Ralph: "Thank you, Kim."

The phone on his desk suddenly rang, and he knew that this was an emergency as he had told Rebeca that he was not to be disturbed while the Doctor was here. So, he apologized to the Doctor, and took the call.

Rebecca: "Sir, there is another fire. This time it is at the warehouse outside by the airport."

Chapter 9

The Private Investigator

Ralph's POV

As soon as Rebeca informed me of the emergency, I apologized to the beautiful doctor, we exchanged contact details, and she promised to keep me updated. Then we both got up and walked out of my office towards the elevator, as I passed Rebeca, I asked her if Dave was at the scene of the fire already and she said yes, I told her that she should let him know that I am on my way. The doctor and I stepped into the elevator.

Kim: "Ralph, what's going on? Where is the fire?"

Ralph: "This is the second fire this month, the first one was arson, we are still investigating and have not been able to identify the instigator yet, hopefully this camera picked up something concrete this time."

Kim: "Why would someone want to do that to you, do you know?"

Ralph: "My best guess is that the person is trying to get my attention, but I should be able to get more clarification from my PI later."

Kim: "Wait so you suspect that Beth was behind the first fire? Ralph this is vital information that you have kept from me. How am I supposed to help you if you do not tell me everything?"

Ralph: "WHAT??? How did you come to that conclusion? We have no idea at this point who is behind the fires, thus I am not permitted to say anything about it to anyone, and whomever it is that my staff suspect at this time is purely speculation."

Kim: "Okay, fine. I am sorry. Please let me know if you need anything from me?"

Ralph looked directly in front of him, and said, through gritted teeth:

Ralph: "I will be fine, thank you. I am a big boy and very capable of looking after myself and my daughter."

At the mention of Ariel, Ralph immediately checked his wristwatch and saw that it was almost lunch time, he would have to work through lunch today to sort out this shit, before four O clock to go pick up his baby girl at the kindergarten. Ralph was enjoying the bonding time that he had with her every day and was constantly thinking about how he can work in more free time to spend with her before Beth came back home. The kindergarten was great though, every day when he goes to pick her up, she is happy and all giggly, and the rides home are so much fun with her in the back in her car seat. She is already a little chatter box, and Ralph can't wait for the day that she starts talking. Ralph was distracted by the ping of the elevator as it reaches the ground floor and the doors opened. He turned his attention back to the pretty doctor, and said:

Ralph: "I wish you a good day Kim, we will be in touch."

Kim: "Goodbye, Ralph."

Once at the site of the fire, Ralph found Dave and got an update. This time, thankfully, they were able to put out the fire before it could do any extensive damage. This time the camera footage revealed more, and the arsonist face was in full view. It was not Beth; it never was her.

Kim's POV

After Ralph took the call, the look on his face was shocking, and Kim sensed that something terrible had happened. She decides that she would not pry, but when they walked out of his office on the way to the elevator, the mention of a fire prompted her to question him. When he told her that this is the second one in a month, she knew that someone seriously wanted to harm him. Ralph however did not see it as threatening, and simply brushed off the arsonist as an "attention seeking" person. It was the mention of him going to get clarification from his P.I. that reminded her of something he had said earlier in the office about Beth's movements on the night that he was attacked that made her draw to the obviously false conclusion that it was Beth that was the arsonist. She felt like a total idiot when Ralph defended his wife so fiercely, and she could tell that he was upset with her when he told her that he was a big boy that could look after himself. She really hoped that he would take her up on her offer for assistance when he needed it. She could not help the strong attraction that she had to this man, the whole time that she was in his office talking to him she had to struggle to keep her thoughts from fantasizing about what he could do to her body in bed. She would never admit this to him directly, but she had this secret hope that his wife would be locked up for life. In her opinion, Beth did not deserve him or Ariel.

When Kim met Beth for the first time she looked like shit, and smelled like it to, that's why she had had her moved to the hospital, so that she could get cleaned up and have a proper night's sleep on a bed. When Kim returned to the hospital the next day, Beth was clean and looked a lot better. It was when Beth started answering her questions that she quickly became aware of her dark personality, and her amazing ability to cloak it from all those whom loved her. She did not like the woman at all, however her hate for the woman was escalated only after she spoke to Ralph and he revealed the horrible treatment the she bestowed on her new born. Kim was deeply hurt by the baby's mistreatment, fueled more by her inability to have children of her own.

However Kim was a doctor, and she had an ethical oath that she needed to honor at all times. So she would do as she promised Ralph she would. She would try and heal Beth. However if Beth become violent again, she would not let it go unseen, or unreported, Kim's wrist still hurt from the way Beth had twisted it to avoid her injection, luckily the male nurses where able to pin her down long enough for Kim to be able to administer the shot.

Chapter 10

The Findings

Ralph's POV

After the shit storm that was the fire at the airport warehouse, Ralph had just enough time to make it to the PI's before he had to go pick up Ariel from kindergarten.

The PI had so much information that Ralph left feeling like he was spinning, and he was really struggling to wrap his head around most of what was just revealed. The photos that he had seen was bound to give him nightmares tonight, he would have to drink at least three glasses of strong whiskeys in the hope that it will knock him out, and then he would hopefully not be haunted by the images in his dreams.

The one thing that stood out the most for him was the fact that he had no idea now who Beth really was, she was lying about so much these past two years that he would not be surprised to find out that everything has been a lie, but if she was just pretending all this time, why would she birth a child with him? What was her plan with the child after she manage to accomplish what she wanted to? Ralph found himself once again feeling really, really scared for his baby daughter.

He had to get home so that he could read the full report that the P.I. given to him. Then he needed to call Alex, his lawyer. He wanted to apply to getting full permanent custody of Ariel, and a restraining order against Beth for both, him, and Ariel. Although Ralph had not read the full report yet, the summary that the P.I. had given him was enough to convince him that Beth was a very dangerous woman.

Ralph picked Ariel up at the kindergarten, but instead of going home he went back to the office, he needed to talk to Dave urgently.

At the office Ralph lifted Ariel out of the car in her baby seat and as he turned around to head into the office, he was blocked by three bulky looking men, all armed with two pistols in their chest holsters. Ralph was unarmed. As he looked to the building entrance, he could see the security at the door had notice the situation and could see him reporting it to Dave over the two-way radio as he started walking towards the parking lot.

Hit man 1: "Mr. Schneider if you come willingly we will not harm you or your baby, if you make a scene and attract attention we will kill everybody, understood?"

Ralph looked the men each in the eye, and then nodded.

Hit man 2: "Walk ahead towards the black car parked down the line."

Ralph did as he was instructed, and half way towards the car the security had finally managed to catch up to them and asked him:

Security: "Mr. Schneider is everything alright?"

Before Ralph could answer him, the first hit man said:

Hit man 1: "We require Mr. Schneider to accompany us to the police station, we will bring him back once we have finished getting his witness report."

Then Ralph made eye contact with the security and closed his eyes for a few seconds, hoping that the security would get the message, but before they could get into the car Dave shouted at him as he came running across the parking lot:

Dave: "Ralph wait, I will be accompanying you."

Hit man 3 growled at Dave as he stepped towards him and put his hand firmly against his chest stopping Dave in his tracks:

Hit man 3: "Ralph will not need more company, he already has enough baggage as it is."

The other two men then firmly pushed Ralph towards the car, and forced him to get in. Ralph watched out the window how the third hit man started beating Dave, and as the car drove past them he saw that they were now in a full blown fist fight, and then as Ralph looked out the rear window of the car he saw the hit man shoot Dave in the chest. Ralph was sad for the loss of his friend, he felt sad for Dave's family, and they had just lost a wonderful father and husband.

Ralph: "Who are you people, the police would not shoot an innocent man in cold blood!"

Hit man 2: "Shut up you fool. If you knew what awaits you, you would wish that we shoot you in cold blood to."

Ralph: "Where are you taking me?"

Hit man 1: "Did we not say shut up?" and as he asked the question he hit Ralph with the bottom of his pistol at the back of his head, causing Ralph to pass out, and as they passed the hospital he demanded his colleague to pull up to the front entrance of the hospital, he opened the car door and pushed out the baby seat with Ariel in it, then they sped away.

The emergency staff at the entrance of the hospital saw the baby being pushed out of the car, and luckily where quick enough to catch the baby seat before it hit the ground. The emergency doctor on duty was Kim, and when the staff bought in the baby for a checkup, she immediately recognized Ariel. Her instincts told her something bad had happened to Ralph, so she went to her office and called her brother, Eric. He was a police officer, and she had a case to report, somehow Kim could not shake the feeling that Beth was behind it all. Kim was still shaken from Beth's attack earlier the morning, this time was so much more violent than the previous one. This time Beth had actually managed to cause a fracture to Kim's skull, two broken ribs, a crack in her left arm, a dislocated knee and a stab wound in her right shoulder, Beth stabbed Kim with a toothbrush that she had sharpened the bottom with a nail file. Beth's attack on Kim was not fatal, but it was brutal.

Kim knew that she needed to report this as soon as possible, but somehow her feelings towards Ralph was blocking her from doing the right thing.

Chapter 11

Saving Ralph

Kim's POV

After Kim had done a proper check up on Ariel, and had cleaned and fed the baby herself, she settled her back into her car seat, and went with her to her office. She hoped Eric was home.

In her office Kim picked up the phone and dialed Eric's number. After about three rings the call was answered.

Kim: "Eric? It's Kim. I need to talk to you urgently, can I come over now?"

Eric: "Morning Little Sis. Yes I am at home now, so I'll start the espresso machine so long."

Kim: "Thank you, I'll see you in ten."

Kim hung up the phone, grabbed Ariel in her car seat, her car keys and handbag and ran out the office into the underground parking lot. When she got to her car she secured Ariel into the car, and then drove straight to Eric's house.

At Eric's she parked next to the curb, and after retrieving Ariel walked up to the front door and rang the doorbell then waited.

Eric: "Little Sis, holy shit what happened to you? You look like you just returned from a war. And whose baby is that?"

Kim: "I will tell you everything, let's first get inside please?"

Eric: "Here let me help you with the baby, come."

Eric took Ariel from Kim and stood aside for Kim to come in then he shut the door behind her. Kim went straight into the living room sat down on the couch, Eric put the baby seat on to the couch next to her. Look at his sister and said:

Eric: "I will be right back with our coffees, you really look like you need it."

Kim: "Thank you big brother."

When Eric returned and settled on the couch opposite of Kim, he looked at his sister and waited.

Kim: "So here it goes. I was attacked by a patient of mine, she was arrested a couple of weeks ago for attempted murder on her husband. This is their baby. I suspect that the baby's father might be in danger. I was at the hospital on duty when the baby was thrown out of a moving vehicle, the emergency staff was really brilliant at catching the seat just before it hit the ground."

Eric:" Who's the client?"

Kim: "His name is Ralph Schneider."

Eric: "Shit, the Owner of the Mercedes Benz Car Dealership in the middle of town, the same man that is also owner of all the other Mercedes Benz dealerships across the country? That man's bank account has no end. He is considered as one of the ten richest men alive according to Forbs."

Kim: "I have been to his house and his office, for such a rich man, he really lives humbly. His office was very impressive, but the house was very modest."

Eric: "He did not always live in that house, he used to live in the mansion of the main road about 5 KS outside of town."

Kim: "What, I know that place, I've been on a number of house calls to that bitter old rich bitch."

Eric: "That bitter bitch, use to be Ralph's first wife."

Kim: "What? No way? "

Eric: "Yip. When I first got transfer from our hometown to here, the Schneider family was the most popular family in town, they had a party at their mansion every weekend. They would provide everything, drinks, food, and entertainment. Every weekend the whole town would be outside of town partying on a Saturday at the Schneider's mansion."

Kim "Every Saturday? Why have I never been to one of those parties before?"

Eric: "Because after the accident, everything in that house changed."

Kim: "I have read the old ladies medical file, so I have an idea of what accident you are talking about."

Eric: "I was the responding officer the night of the accident at the Schneider mansion. They were attacked, and the old lady was pushed off the third floor balcony. Ralph was on a business trip out of town at that time. The old lady was in a coma when he returned."

Kim: "Her file indicated that she was in that state for two years."

Eric: "That's how Ralph met Eliza bet Befferot Aka Beth. She was an intern nurse at the hospital. They started having an affair almost instantly. And within weeks Ralph filed for divorce of his comatose wife. The news leaked to the media, and the whole town rallied against them. They all believed that Beth had hypnotized him. The Ralph Schneider they knew would never be so heartless."

Kim: "And then Beth got pregnant, so they had to get married."

Eric: "Yip. And the town started hating her more. So Ralph bought her that modest little house and told her she could decorate it however she wants to. She would go to town to buy her house décor, but no one in town want to help her. So she hired a whole new team and would send them to buy the stuff for her. It didn't work. That's why Ralph was out of town most of her pregnancy , because Beth would send him to different town's across the country to get her furniture While he was out of town she would spend all her days in the casino. Gambling, drinking and smoking, while she was pregnant."

Kim: "Her doctor should be fired."

Eric: "That is exactly what Ralph did when he found out about it. And he put Beth in house arrest for the duration of her pregnancy. That is when the domestic violence call outs to the house started becoming a frequent thing, and every time we got there Ralph would drop the charges against Beth the very next day."

Kim: "Well I am not Ralph, I want to file an official attempted murder case against Beth. My Doctors report on her will indicate that she has a mental illness. But I believe that when she attacked me she was of sane mind, and really wanted to kill me. And that she has kidnapped Ariel's father, and is going to harm him."

Eric: "You know what this means right? We will have to go search Ralph's home."

Kim: "Yes and I want to go with you."

Chapter 12

Searching the House

Kim's POV

Once she and Ariel had accompanied Eric to the police station, and Kim had filed an official report of attempted murder against Beth, and also informed them of the baby's missing father, Eric was granted a search warrant to the Schneider residence as he was awarded the case.

When they pulled up to Ralph's house, they were surprised to find it unlocked. The inside was tidy and clean. As Eric started walking through the house, he noticed Kim walk up the stairs, and asked her where she was going, she said she need to get baby supplies from the baby room. So Eric nodded and allowed her to proceed.

Once upstairs Kim found the baby room, and after scanning it she found what she was looking for, the baby's pram. The little girl had put on weight and was really getting heavy in her baby seat, it would be so much easier for Kim if she had the pram as well. Then Kim pushed the pram over towards the changing table and loaded it with as much baby supplies as could fit.

She had taken Ariel out of her baby seat and laid her in her cot when she first came in to the room, and after she had finished loading the supplies into the pram and turned to pick up Ariel she saw that she was fast asleep. So Kim decided that she would let the baby sleep for a while, she needed to go to the bathroom anyway.

As Kim came out of the bathroom she looked down the hall and saw that Ralph's bedroom door was open. She went closer, and as she approached the threshold of the door she noticed that the walk-in closet looked as if it had a gaping hole in the back, when Kim stepped through the hole, she was shocked at what she saw, immediately she turned around and ran to find Eric, he definitely needed to see this.

Kim: "ERIC, ERIC I FOUND SOMETHING THAT I REALLY THINK YOU SHOULD SEE!"

Eric: "Kim, calm down. Where is the baby?"

Kim:" Eric, please now, this is urgent. Ariel is upstairs in her cot, she was asleep the last time I checked on her."

As Kim was telling him this the two of them where both climbing up the stairs taking two steps at a time, straight to Ralph's closet. At the room door Kim stopped on the threshold as she heard Ariel crying. She indicated to Eric to go into the closet and said:

Kim: "I will go get her, you take a look so long."

With that Kim turned around and went to go get Ariel.

When she returned with Ariel in her arms she found Eric sitting in front of a TV screen looking at camera footage of Ralph's living room and the baby's room.

Kim: "Did Ralph plant spy cams in his own house?"

Eric: "He was a very clever man. I know where he is, and I know who is behind all of it. You, they...everyone was right. Beth is an evil, evil woman."

Kim: "Eric what did you see?"

Eric: "Kim, wait I need to report this as soon as possible, I will need backup because Ralph's life really is in danger. We need to act super-fast if we hope to save him."

Kim:" There's a phone downstairs in the kitchen, you can call the station from there, I will go with you."

Kim listened as Eric reported his findings to his station's chief.

Eric:" Sir we need to put out a full-blown rescue team, Mr. Schneider's life is in danger, I have evidence that Mr. Schneider's wife physical abused him on multiple occasions, after she had drugged him. I stumbled upon Mr. Schneider's spy cams, and the footage shows how the new Mrs. Schneider always makes him a drink and emptying a white powdery substance into his drink before serving it to him. She then let's him sit on the couch and misusages his feet until he closes his eyes. Once his eyes are closed, she blindfolds him, and cuffs his hands behind the chair. Then she stuffs a gag-ball into his mouth. The rest you will have to come and see for yourself."

Kim was crying uncontrollably, she felt so sorry for Ralph and all he had to go through, he was such a gorgeous hunk of a man, and he portrayed himself as a strong leader. How would he allow this? No person deserved to be abused by their partner. She needed to see the footage for herself.

Kim: "Eric please take Ariel, I want to go watch the footage before the investigators get here, please?"

Eric: "What, no Kim I do not have time to babysit, I told you I know where Mr. Schneider is and I am going to go get him. He needs to be with his daughter, and she needs him."

Kim: "Fine, then we will stay here and wait for the investigators?"

Eric: "Fine"

When Eric left, Kim was about to turn around and walk back to Ralph's room, when the phone rang, and Kim answered it.

Kim: "Hello this is the Schneider's residence, they are not at home right now, but I could leave them a message."

Caller: "So are you his latest affair, where is he? He is late with the compensation money, and the child support?"

Kim:"Ahemmm, I am sorry that you have to hear this from me, but I am Mr. Schneider's doctor and he is fighting for his life right now as we speak."

Caller: "Hahahaha, that's a new one. Every month it is the same old story. They always make up some elaborate excuse, I am sick of it. Chapter 13

Ralph's Return

Ralph's POV

When he opened his eyes, he was immediately forced to close them again because of the stinging in his skull. Slowly Ralph pried his eyes open, he needed to know where his daughter was. He tried to speak but found that he had been gagged.

He tried to sit up but realized that he was strapped to what felt like a very hard cold bed, when he turned his head to look at the restraints around his arms, he saw that he was strapped to a x-cross, and he could feel that his legs and arms were spread out in the shape of a star, and he was completely naked. When Ralph tried lifting his head to see more, he realized that his head has also been restrained. So, he waited, and tried assessing his injuries, in the meantime. He knew that his skull stung like a bitch, but somehow, he was not feeling much better further down his body either, his dick felt like it might fall off at any moment, and when he tried wriggling his toes the pain made him scream, only no one could hear him because he was gagged, Ralph felt the tears trickle down his face, his toes were definitely broken.

Then Ralph heard a door creak open, and he listened to the sound of footsteps coming downstairs, Ralph followed them until he was able to set eyes on the owner. It was Beth. She looked completely different, her face was made up with heavy dark black circles around her eyes, her hair was a mess of twigs and leaves somehow plated into different bundles in her hair on her head, the rest of her body was naked, but she was completely covered in white paint.

Eric's POV

He was about 2 minutes away from the farm that he believed Beth to be holding Ralph hostage. She had escaped from the hospital earlier that morning. He could not understand how his sister Kim did not know about it, but he had no time to question her about it, much less tell her about it. Kim did not know the information that he had gathered from the locals in Beth's home village. Beth was not conceived in a conventional way, and her disturbed brain was a result of early development trauma. The whole village in which Beth was born, knew her history. They used her as an example for their own children, she was known as the communities' evil witch. The locals told him that she was eventually banned from the community and given a small hut to live in, a long distance away from the rest of the community, the chief of their community forbade her to set foot in the village itself, and that no other community member was allowed to assist Beth in anyway. That is when she ran away, and the community was relieved that her evil presence was no longer among then.

Kim had no idea what her patient has done, or who she actually was. Eric needed to find Ralph as soon as possible.

Chapter 14

Beth's Truth

Beth's POV

That disgusting old man, how could he just puke all over me? Now I will have to go and shower, and then I need to do the whole body painting all over again. Did Ralph not realize what day it was? Today was the day that I would be getting my family back. How dare he mess it all up like this, I have waited years for this day. I have worked really hard to be able to get this day, the God's would not look likely on tardiness, or if I mess anything up, they did not allow even for one mistake.

In the bathroom Beth jumped under the shower, she did not even feel the ice cold water on her skin, she was harboring a deep anger towards Ralph, and this was making her heat up from the inside. She now had nothing but a heart full of hate for the man, and the only thing that seemed to be able to subside her boiling anger, was if she imagined the way that she was going to kill him.

Eric's POV

Finally Eric found himself on the farm where he believed Ralph to be. He looked up at the old house in the middle of the property, it was a neglected piece of crap, and all the windows had long been the punching bags for all the angry teenagers that secretly smoked there, the rest of the house had also had its fair share of vandalism. It had no working electricity, or pluming. So Eric knew that he would not find someone inside making dinner, or taking a shower.

From the outside the house looked abandoned, but as Eric came closer, he saw a faint light shining from a basement window. He parked his car behind the tall overgrown hedges, and before he switched it off, he quickly radioed the station to inform them that he had arrived at the farm, and that there is movement inside the abandon house, he was not going to wait for back up to arrive, he would go head and check it out himself. Before the responding officer on the other side could advise him otherwise, he dropped the radio, grabbed the car keys from the ignition, and got out of the car to head for the house.

As he approached the first window, he looked inside and saw that the house was one big heap of dirt on the inside, so he climbed through the window, then he stood still for a moment to listen, he heard a loud screaming come from the basement, followed by high pitch cursing, and then the sound of a whip being cracked over, over and over again. As Eric was walking down the hall, making his way to where he had heard the screaming come from, a door suddenly opened, Eric dived into the first room he found, and pushed his back flat against the wall, and listened. He heard the door slam, so he dared a peak around the corner, he saw a strange naked woman stepping up the stairs, she had twigs and plants growing out of her head, mixing with her hair, her naked body was covered in white paint. Her head kept moving from side to side, almost like a defiant child will shake his head when he does not want to do as you ask of him, and she kept talking to someone that Eric could not see. Eric watched the woman walk up the stairs, and quickly ran to the door which she had just come through, he opened it and ran down the stairs into the dark basement, at the bottom he slowly looked around the room with his flashlight, and that is when he saw Ralph hanging limply from a x shaped cross, he ran over to him and patted him on the side of the face, Ralph opened his eyes, looked at him, and then passed out again.

Eric quickly did a further inspection of the room, and saw that there was an exit at the back, so he ran back to where Ralph was untied him, threw the man over his shoulder and made his way to the exit, outside he quickly made his way back to the car. He lay Ralph on his back, on the back seat of the car then he closed the door. As he turned around to go back into the house, his back up arrived, among his colleagues was Kim. He told Kim that Ralph was on the back seat of her car, and needed immediate medical attention, he suggested that Kim take his car and get Ralph to the hospital, he would hitch a ride with one of his colleagues after they have successfully arrested Beth. Kim took one look through Eric's car window, grabbed the keys from him, switched on the emergency lights, and sped off to the hospital.

Jim: "Eric, what's the verdict, how many people are in that shit heap?"

Eric: "I am only aware of a strange looking woman, the last time I saw her, and she was walking up the stairs of the house."

Jim: "Was she armed?"

Eric: "I have no idea, although I doubt it, she was completely butt naked."

Jim: "So shall we go in?"

Eric: "Let's do this!"

The four of them split up in parties of two, and decided that Eric and Jim would go through the front door, while the other two came in from the back.

Once they were all inside the house, and had cleared the bottom floor, they filed up the stairs, in a row with their guns drawn, ready to fire. They heard singing coming from down the hall, and followed the noise. When they found the room from which the singing was emanating, one of them tried the door but found that it was locked from the inside. So they collectively decided to break it down.

What the men witnessed on the other side of the door, had them all gaping, and scared shit-less.

Chapter 15

The Damage

Kim's POV

When Kim pulled up to the farm, she spotted Eric by the car, she barely waited for the police car that she was riding in to come to a complete stop, before she was out and ran towards Eric, as she came closer Eric said to her that Ralph was in the back seat and needed immediate medical attention. Kim didn't even pause to assess his injuries, she would do that at the hospital. At the hospital's reception Kim called Ariel's kindergarten.

Kim: "Jen, we have found Ariel's farther, but he is in critical condition, I won't make it in time to pick Ariel up."

Jen: "Hey Kim, listen babe, relax. Take a deep breath. Now blow out, that's it. So Ariel will be with me, I will take her home, she will be safe with me until you come and get her, okay."

Kim: "I love you, thank you so much bestie. I'll see you later, bye."

Then Kim followed the nurses pushing Ralph into the ICU. Once he was prepped and ready, she final got the chance to assess his injuries. She started at his head, he had a bump on the back of his skull, indicating that he had been hit hard with a flat object there, as she ran her hands over his face, she felt that his nose was broken, and his jaw was fractured. Then she moved her hands down his neck and discovered that he had a stab wand like hers on the shoulder, looks like the exact same weapon that was used. When she inspected his arms, she realized that his right arm was broken in five places. Further down his chest, she felt that his ribs where cracked in three places. However when she saw the damage to his penis, she knew that he would have to have about a dozen reconstruction operations. Her hands also felt that both his knee caps where broken, both his ankle's where twisted and all his toes where broken. Kim stood back and handed the medical report to the nurse, then she started giving them instructions on his medication, and all the x-rays and scans that needed to be done on him. While she folded her arms across her chest, she stood out of the staff's way, and again scanned his body from head to toe, the poor man was covered in small scratches, and open gushing wounds, and he had bruises all over. Kim told the head nurse to double his pain medication for the night, before she turned around and left the staff to get him settled in.

Outside Ralph's door she found Eric sitting in the hall way waiting for her.

Kim: "Eric, are you okay. You look like you have seen a ghost? What happened?"

Eric: "Kim, no amount of training could have prepared me for what my team and I witnessed at that house. It was the most disgusting thing imaginable, I am sure that all of us will be having nightmares about it for the rest of our lives."

Kim: "Eric, please come with me to my office, I will pour you a double scotch then you can tell me what you saw."

Eric: "Okay."

In Kim's office she did as she had promised Eric she would. When she handed over the drink, Eric downed it in one go, then requested another, this time when Kim handed over the drink he took a normal sip, then place the glass on Kim's desk, lean forwards with his elbow on his knees and his head in his hands, he said:

Eric: "The singing we heard was not singing, it was chanting. We searched till we found the room from which the chanting was coming, so we broke down the door. In the room we found a woman sitting on the floor, around her she had formed a circle of sand heaps, on top of each heap there was a different sharp dangerous object, things like spears and swords. The woman did not hear the door being broken down, and she did not see us standing there, and as we watched her she kept chanting, rocking back and forth on her knees, then suddenly she took an object from one of the sand heaps, it was a spear, and shoved it up her vagina. Kim, it looked like she was fucking the thing, while the blood was gushing in all directions. I have never seen anything like it, it was disturbing, and very disgusting."

Kim: "Where is the woman now?"

Eric: "We managed to stop her self-brutalization; I believe that the ambulance must have already bought her here. When they loaded her into the ambulance she was still chanting."

Kim: "Eric, was it Beth?"

Eric: "Yes, at first I did not recognize her, she had big black circles drawn around her eyes, and her naked body was covered in white paint, it was only when the medical staff carried her out on the stretcher that I was able to catch a proper glimpse of her face. How is Ralph doing?"

Kim: "He is in a stable condition, but he has severe injuries all over his body."

Eric: "As we searched the abandoned house, in the basement we found a whip with attached blades, lying underneath the x-cross from which I untied Ralph from. I suspect that she beat him with that."

Kim: "That would explain the various scratches and open gushing wounds all over his body, and especially around his genital's."

Eric: "Kim, Beth was born in a small village in the middle of the African desert, I tracked her people, and where able to speak to them about Beth. Beth was born to the village's chief's daughter, after she was raped at the age of 13 by one of the rival tribes men. Both the daughter and her farther tried to terminate the pregnancy, but was unsuccessful. From the day that Beth was born she was tortured, her birth mother buried her alive, but she was rescued by a good Samaritan passing by the place of burial and bought back to the village. The community then believed that it was a sign from the God's that the child would not be killed, so the chief and his daughter decided that they would use Beth as their own personal toy. They sexually, physically and mentally abused her every day of her life till she turned 13, then they threw her out of the village and expelled her from the community."

Chapter 16

Ouma

Ouma's POV

I knew Beth's sins would eventually catch up to her, the western world did not look likely on our rituals. That is why we stopped the business of the tourists visiting our village.

It was not Beth's fault that she turned out the way that she did. From the day that she was born, she was hated. The child never knew love. No one wanted anything to do with her, they all believed that the child was cursed, and they would be correct. So, when this western man came to the village to talk to them about Beth, he said he was a police officer from his town, and Beth had caused chaos there. So, I told the police officer Beth's whole history. I told him:

Ouma: "It was a terrible thing that happened to my granddaughter. She was raped when she was still a baby, her pregnancy was a curse, she hated every minute that the child grew in her, she begged my son to help her get rid of it. They tried so many different things, but nothing worked. So, on the day that the baby was born, my son buried her alive. However, a Good Samaritan passing by heard the child crying from within the grave, dug her up and took her to the nearest village he could find. When the child was bought back to him, he was furious. He told everybody that the child was a curse from the rival tribe. Naturally the community hated the child. So, my son invited everybody to use the child for their rituals, even neighboring tribes could use her. They would come to our village to collect the child. I was once invited to one of these rituals, they called it Strappado. The child was already five at that time."

Eric: "Ouma please tell me what they did to her during this ritual?"

Ouma: "They strung her up by her wrist behind her head and added weights until both her shoulders where dislocated. When we returned to the village my son had built a hut miles away from the village, he said that this was Beth's new home. In the hut he had built a big water tank, with a chair underneath, he tied the child's hands and feet to the arms and legs of the chair, and then he opened a tap at the top of the tank and let cold water slowly drip on her head, she was completely naked during this time, and he invited the people from rival tribes to come have whatever sexual activities with her that they wanted and could not have otherwise, however there was one consequence, they were not to untie her, feed her or help her in anyway. When the screams where to loud for him, he gagged her. Twice a week he would go to the hut with a whip that had blades tied at the end, and would whip her around her gentile area until she passed out. Eric: "Ouma thank you for seeing me, and talking to me about Beth, good bye."

From there Eric traced Beth's movements to a small town where he found out that the cult leader took pity on her and allowed her to join his cult. They called themselves "Children of God" the leader of the cult had recruited Beth for his "flirty fishing". The cult encouraged sex with children, and believed it to be a divine right. When Eric spoke to the cult members about Beth, they all called her the crazy child, that later become her nickname within the cult. The cult leader even started calling her CC. She stayed with the cult, practicing their believes until the age of 22. Eric found out that she left the cult one day after she and the cult leader had a fall out, and he whipped her with the exact same whip her farther use to whip her with. The other cult members believed that the whipping was her final breaking point. They said that when she ran out of that room her eyes would not stay still for even a minute, she would attack anyone that dared come close to her. They told Eric that she kept screaming that she would kill them by scratching out their eyes if they came close, and the cult leader eventually decided to kick her out of the cult. They told Eric that she stood outside the premise gate screaming and cursing for almost two days. Then one morning when they awoke she was no longer there.

On his way home Eric was overwhelmed with the information he had just gathered about Beth, he planned on letting his sister know the minute he was able to. However when Eric got back to the station that day, he was confronted with the information that Ralph Schneider had been kidnapped by Beth. So when Kim came to him and told him that she wanted to file an official attempted murder case against Beth, and then his station chief made him the head investigating office in the case, and when he and Kim searched the house they found their lead, and Eric was on an immediate rescue mission, so he never got to tell Kim all the information he had gathered on Beth.

Chapter 17

Ralph

Ralph's POV

When Ralph opened his eyes, the bright light stung his eyes and caused an immediate headache, which Ralph ignored. He was so relieved to discover that he was not tied down in anyway, he was able to move his head, and when he scanned the rest of his body, he was shocked to see himself in a full body cast. The only body part that was not in the cast, was his left arm. Ralph closed his eyes again, and said a silent prayer of thanks. When he opened his eyes again, he pressed the call button and waited for someone to come to his room. In walked the pretty doctor, he smiled at her, and she smiled back.

Kim: "Hi Ralph, welcome back. How are you feeling?"

Ralph: "Hi Doc, where is Ariel, I need to see my child please? I feel like I have been hit by a train."

Kim: "Ariel is waiting outside in the hall, she really missed you." As she said this she was already making her way to the door, and when she opened it the nurse pushed in Ariel in her pram. After the woman had helped Ralph settle with Ariel safely in his arms. Kim said:

Kim: "With the amount of injuries on your body, and if someone looked at your medical report, they would in fact come to the conclusion that you were hit by a train."

As Ralph was staring down at his baby, lovingly looking at her sleeping face, he said:

Ralph: "Wow, Beth really did go crazy on me this time."

Kim: "Ralph, it is not a joke, you need to let it stick this time, she tried to kill you. She is a very disturbed woman, and the system will put her in the right place, a place that will keep her safe, and keep you and Ariel safe."

Ralph then looked up at Kim, and asked:

Ralph: "What place? For how long?"

Kim looked Ralph in the eyes and asked:

Kim: "Ralph do you remember anything?"

Ralph: "Yes, I remember every single word, every punch, every stab, and every single whipping."

Kim: "Then you know that her brain is damaged beyond repair right? Do you know Beth's history?"

Ralph: "I will never be able to look her in the eyes again, and feel the same about her. That evilness that everybody was talking about, I finally saw it to. As far as her history goes, I had a PI follow her, and when he discover what she was up to, he dug up her past, everything is in his report at home. I have not had a chance to read the full report yet, but I believe that it now is irrelevant, and everything will come out in court. I am going to let the attempted murder charge stick this time, and then I plan on fighting for full custody of Ariel with no visitation rights. I do not want her coming anywhere near Ariel ever again."

Kim: "That will be the best decision for Ariel. I am sorry that on top of all the physical pain you are currently suffering from, you now also have to deal with the pain of a broken heart."

Ralph: "My heart really hurts. Do have medicine for it Doc?"

Kim: "I am sorry Ralph I do not, the only thing that will help with that is time, and a lot of rest."

Before Kim could say anything else, there was a knock on the room door, when Ralph said come in, Eric appeared.

Eric: "Hi Ralph, Sis."

Ralph and Kim greeting him smiling at him.

Eric: "Ralph how are you feeling, can I talk to you privately for a minute please, do you think you're strong enough for that?"

Ralph: "Yes Eric I will answer your questions, but first, Kim would you possibly be able to organize a cot for Ariel, I do not want her out of my sight for even a minute?"

Kim: "Okay let me leave you two alone for a while, then I will go get that sorted for you."

She turned to Eric and said:

Kim: "Eric, Ralph has been through a lot of trauma and needs his rest, please keep it short and sweet."

Eric: "Sure thing, Sis."

The men watched as Kim left the room then Eric turned to Ralph and said:

Eric: "Ralph, are you going to let this attempted murder charge stick?"

Ralph: "Yes."

Eric: "You will be okay, I promise. We are all here for you, Kim really likes you, and if Kim likes someone, the family automatically also likes the person."

Ralph: "Thank you Eric. What I felt for Beth, really did feel like love for a minute, I do not know how I ended up falling for her, I never thought that she could be this toxic, and I am 100% sure that I do not want her anywhere near Ariel, ever again. That's why I will be taking her to court."

Just then Kim walked back into the room, pushing a baby cot.

Kim: "Hey guys. Ralph I found a cot as you requested."

Ralph: "Wonderful, thank you so much Kim."

Kim looked at him and smiled, then she took Ariel, and placed her in her cot, she was still sleeping blissfully. She said to Eric:

Kim: "Your time is up, you need to please let my patient rest now, while Ariel is also resting."

Eric: "Yes, Doc. Good Bye Ralph, get well soon." Then Eric left.

When Kim came out of Ralph's room, she found Eric still sitting outside in the hall, when he saw her he said:

Eric: "Kim, I was waiting for you, we need to talk about Beth. Do you have time now, or should I come by your house later tonight?"

Kim: "I will not be going home till after midnight, in case you haven't noticed, I am on the late shift."

Eric: "Then we will have to talk now, can we go talk in your office please?"

Chapter 18

Eric Tells Kim about Beth

Eric's POV

When we get to Kim's office, I make my way to her bar and help myself to a scotch. Then I go sit on the couch, and wait for her to settle in the one across from me, then I tell her everything.

Eric: "I need to detail the extent of Beth's abuse, she was much younger when it actually all started. Like I told you before, Beth was born into horrific family. Apart from burying her alive and deciding that they would raise her as their concubine for all including the neighboring villagers. When she was five years old, after she returned from a torture ritual at the neighboring village, her grandfather had built a hut for her miles away from the village. In it he had placed a water tank with a tap at the bottom, and a chair underneath it. He tied Beth to the chair completely naked and opened the tap, so that cold water dripped down on her head. He then called the neighboring villagers to come have their sexual pleasure with her. He would regularly beat her with a whip that had blades attached to it, especially around her genital area. I have spoken to Ralph, and he says that he will let the attempted murder charge against her stick this time, with your charge and report we will be able to make sure that Beth never gets anywhere close to Ariel. We all need to do everything in our power to protect that precious baby."

Kim: "I agree 100%."

Before Kim could say anything else, the phone on her desk rang, they urgently needed her in the emergency ward.

Ralph's POV

When Kim and Eric left his room, Ralph realized that he was really, really tiered. So he closed his eyes, and drifted into a deep sleep. He dreamt about Beth.

Ralph walked into the house and found Beth waiting for him dressed in seductively sexy underwear, she was smiling and as she handed him a glass of champagne she said:

Beth: "Tonight I want to play a game with you. It will be a lot of fun, I promise."

Ralph opened his eyes, feeling panicked, it was only when he looked around the room and realized that he was still in his hospital room and Beth was nowhere to be seen, that he calmed down.
