The fire was more dangerous than before. It was impossible for them to pass through. They could have taken the risk of running through it if they were young and healthy.
Grace remained frozen in her place, not knowing how to get out.
Gerald grabbed her hand and said, "Leave…"
"No… I cannot leave without you. I must do something." She looked around the room to find something… anything that could help her escape the fire.
"Grace…" Gerald yelled. "Go… Don't think about me. You will die if you don't leave right away. You won't be able to get me out of here, but you can save your own life. Leave."
Grace couldn't understand a single word he slurred.
His expression and tone were enough for her to guess what he was saying.
"No way." She shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes.
"Dad, Aunt…" Earl's voice drew their attention.
They peered out the door and saw him standing in the hall, the fire separating him from them.
