Derrek was dissatisfied with Declan's attitude toward Clara. But he didn't hold it against him, as he could understand his pain.
"Don't feel bad." He put his arm around her shoulder. "He is depressed, you know."
Clara gave him a slight smile, pretending to understand. "I know. He is probably missing Yasmin and gets upset when he sees me with you. I shouldn't have come here. It's your family get-together. He must be uneasy in the presence of an outsider."
"You are not an outsider." Derrek gripped her shoulders and reassured her. "You are a family. We are getting engaged soon." He hopefully looked at Gerald, who nodded in agreement.
After spending some time with his grandmother, Declan came out of her room and ran into Clara.
"Hi…" She smiled at him.
Declan frowned at her, then his gaze moved down to the glass of water.
"Oh… I am going to give Grandma her medicine." She showed him the table in her palm.
