Chapter 148 - Holding the Cry

"Mom," said the youngest, "the smoke, my eyes hurt."

Sri Asih tried to help her son as best she could. "Satya," she said to the man in front. "Your torch's emitting a lot of smoke. Is there no other way?"

From the start, Satya had understood this one small problem. The smoke from the torch he carried would affect the eyes and breathing of those behind him.

"We have no other choice, my lady."

"I mean, you can use your magic, can't you?"

"Indeed," Satya nodded. "However, it would be very risky if I used my magic now. You see, people with the same abilities would be able to sense my existence, and eventually, all of us. What's more, for those whose magic and supernatural powers are higher than mine."

"Oh, I see?" Sri Asih sighed softly, then placed her son's head on her chest. "Hold on, honey," she whispered. "Soon we'll be out of this stuffy tunnel."

"My lady," said Satya, "step beside me."

"How about me?" asked the eldest.
