Alex was completely taken aback at the unexpected question.
" Why are you asking me that and why does it matter? ", he asked again, regaining his composure.
" Because I think Lilly's memory loss is not because of turning but because something happened during her human life. Something must have happened which has caused amnesia. ",
" Then why are you asking me that?"
" Then who am I supposed to ask from? Aren't you the one who turned her? Now tell me why did you turn her? You know that you can't lie to the doctor, right? ",
" Are you sure you are asking me as a doctor or because of personal reasons? "
Hearing Alex's question, Dr Clara scoffed, dumbfounded.
" All the things I am and will be asking are completely for professional use. I don't mix my professional and private life together anymore. Do you still see me as the immature girl as I was in the past? ", she defended herself.
" Ok then, I apologize for jumping to conclusions by my own self. Go ahead and ask away. "
" First, why did you turn Lilly? ", she asked.
This was the same question Emma had been asking him for days and he was not ready to answer. Lilly was also curious about that as she was not even acquainted with him at that time.
However she did not want to ask him worried, in case she offend him because it was true that he helped her. From whom, why, how, that she didn't know but she was sure that he saved her because she remembered something which assured her.
" I found her in a terrible condition in the forest I frequent. She was bleeding from the back of her head and had many wounds on her arms and legs and her feet were bruised too. I was about to ignore her when our eyes and Lilly begged me to save her. The only way to save her was to turn her as she had already lost a lot of blood and the nearest hospital was also quite far. ", he explained, looking at Lilly.
As he was explaining, Clara's expression darkened as anger took over her.
" Do you expect me to believe that? Not anyone else but you, you turned someone just because that person begged you. How could you lie right on my face when I have known you for years? "
" I am really not lying, it is the truth. There was no other reason to turn her. "
" What a joke! ", Clara scoffed. " So you want me to believe that you turned Lilly just because she begged you to save her life and now she does not even remember that. "
" Yes, these are the facts. ", Alex replied, unwavered.
" Are they? ", Clara asked, looking at Lilly.
" I don't know but that's true that he saved me. However I don't remember anything. ", she replied.
" Don't tell me you like her, right Alex? ", Clara asked suddenly.
" Are you crazy? She is just a baby compared to our age. I am not that crazy. "
" Then it is tough to believe you. The Alex who didn't hesitate to ki... "
Before Clara could complete her sentence, Alex stopped her.
" Let's stop talking about past, please. ", he said, as his eyes got big in horror.
He wanted to stop Clara from completing her sentence and she also understood. She gave a wicked smile with a nod.
" Ok then tell me how long have you known Lilly? ", she asked.
" If you are asking me to guess if I know the reason for her amnesia, I don't know. It was just a coincidence that I found her at that time. "
" So technically, we have nothing here. We don't even know the main issue and cause of the memory loss. What a weird case! ", she exclaimed.
" That is why we came to you. "
" Lilly, tell me honestly, by your heart. ", she said turning to Lilly. " Do you really want to recover your lost memories? "
" Why? ", Lilly asked, anxious at the sudden shift of atmosphere.
" According to me, there is something that you experienced which was so traumatic that your brain blocked those memories. It could be anything and everything. Your brain is blocking those memories and that is the reason that you get headaches whenever you try to find your lost memories. ", she explained.
" But isn't there a chance that those are pleasant memories? ", Lilly asked, hoping for a positive response.
" Most probably no. There could be pleasant memories too but the main memory must be traumatic or something you will not like to remember. "
There was complete silence as Lilly had no idea how to answer that and it was obviously a hard question for her.
" You don't have to answer right now, you can take your time and tell me. I will help you with whatever you decide. ", Dr Clara said, gently patting her hand.
Lilly just nodded in reply as she was lost in her thoughts.
" Here, this is my number. You can call me anytime. ", she said, handing her business card to Lilly.
" Thank you, Dr Clara. ", Alex said, as he got up followed by Lilly.
A mischievous smile formed on Clara's face as she also got up.
" No need to thank me. Anything for my fiance. ", she said, winking at Alex as he cringed hard.
Seeing his reaction, she burst laughing. Lilly still remained expressionless and just followed Alex out.
In no time, they both came out of the hospital and sat in the car. While driving Alex kept on checking up on Lilly but she just answered yes and no.
" You don't have to force yourself to remember anything. I was just worried and that was the reason I brought you here. Your life won't get affected if you don't remember just a week. ", he kept on saying but got no reaction from Lilly.
Suddenly he stopped the car which surprised Lilly.
