The annual winter ball was meant to be a celebration of diplomatic ties. Alora and other ministers of the council suggested canceling the event due to the absence of the monarch, Queen Eugenie, and Queen consort Zander. They weren't returning to host their first event after their coronation.
However, Alora received a letter from her mother, asking her to host the event as the invitations were sent before the Crisal began the war with them.
The ladies-in-waiting watched Alora and heard her sigh reading Eugenie's letter. So they announced, "We will start the preparation." And the four immediately departed to kick-start the arrangements.
