It's a chilly November, and a quiet day in the packhouse but not so quiet as two children run about making loud noises such as squeals and squeaks of laughter.
"I will get you!" A boy who looked to be of age five screams running after a girl who looked younger in age.
The girl squeals as the boy is getting closer to catching her. They run about for a while, crashing and bringing down everything in their way, making a huge mess.
A lady steps out hearing the sound of glass breaking and squeals of children. Her tall lean frame dashing across the hall in a hurry to see who was hurt. She flings her long black hair out of the way when it hinders her sight and runs faster down the stairwell to reach the place where the noise had come from.
"Luna!" a child squeals and runs into her legs and she grabs the child with one hand and the railing of the stairs with another hand to stop them both from falling.
"Luna! Ezra is chasing me again" The woman stared down at the child who was bold enough to run into her without respect. The children in the packhouse were taught how to respect the higher-ups but there were some who were slow.
"Devora." The woman called with an authorotative tune that would have anyone shiver in fear but the little child didn't feel a thing. Her bright amber eyes stared straight up into the Luna's dark eyes that had the woman smile coldly at the child's guts.
"Devora!" a child yelled running straight into the two females and when he looked up scrambled back in fear at the sight of the Luna. He quickly stood straight and bowed his head, slightly tilting his neck in greeting.
The woman nodded at his respect and turned to the Child.
"Devora, what are you doing here?" The room which the children had come from was off limits to children.
Ezra whimpered at the cold tune the Luna used but again Devora felt nothing.
"We were playing" Davora cheerfully sang and the Luna's glare darkened.
"Who's child are you?" The Luna asked, wanting to punish them for not teaching the child a simple topic as respect. She'd have let it slide before but this wasn't the first time the child was disrespecting her. she had met the child before but the child had only given her name and ran off.
"Luna!" A petite blonde woman called from behind, seeing her child and the one in her care near the Luna, she knew they must have caused trouble. She bowed in greeting and quickly ushered the children away.
"Maria" The Luna's cold voice froze the woman. "Your and that child have messed up this room. Take care of it" The Luna snapped at the end.
"Don't worry Auntie, I and Ezra will clean it up" The child gave a toothy grin and suddenly ran off with Ezra to get the brooms.
"Aunt" The Luna drawled, her dark eyes staring into Maria's brown ones that quickly looked to the ground.
"Who are her parents?" Maria hesitated to reply and the Luna sensed it.
"That child is human Maria. As I know your husband's relatives well, I'll assume the relation is from you who mated to a wolf from my pack. right?" The Luna walked closer to Maria, taking an intimidating stance and exuberating an aura of dominance.
"I'm sorry Luna but you're wrong. The child is a friend of mine's. I am taking care of her for the meantime." Maria quickly stated "Please excuse me" And with that she quickly walked out of the scene.
The Luna glared at Maria's back. She hated her very existence since she was a witch. while she was strict with the pack, she was harsh on Maria and her son.
the two children walked back into the room with the brooms and start to sweep.
Ezra finds two pieces of elastic and sets them aside.
While sweeping everything to the center but not making a good job out of it, Devora found some beads that had scattered all over the floor.
"Look Ezra, we can use your elastic to make bracelets!" Devora stated, dropping her broom to pick the beads.
Ezra dropped his broom and started to gather beads too. "We can make friendship bracelets like the ones Mimi made the other day! That'll teach her to share" Ezra stated with a slight tinge of spite and jealousy.
"let's make our own lucky charms instead. Auntie says they're fun to make!" Devora states and this has them sitting down to set to work, forgetting about the chore.
after many minutes of beads flying away from the slippery little fingers, the two children were done. Their lucky charm bracelets were quite peculiar but in their eyes it was beautiful.
"A gift for you" Devora states, giving her charm which had a letter D on it that she had found.
"And another for you" Ezra gives her his own with the letter D on it.
"promise to be my Friend forever?" Ezra asked, his young mind sensing the girl wasn't going to stay long.
"Pinky promise" Devora states, bringing out her little finger for Ezra to cross with it and seal the deal.
the two skip out of the room, forgetting they were ever cleaning the place up in the first place.
Few months later, Devora's family come for her and she leaves the packhouse, never coming back for years.
Twenty years later, Ezra wakes up from his sleep with a text message on his phone.
Alpha: Dress up quick, we're going somewhere.
Ezra sighed and reaches for his locket on the counter when a queer-looking bracelet falls to the ground.
He picks it up and smiles.
"Dear Devora, are you coming to see me today?" He whispers and places the bracelet in the locket.
He sighs again and proceeds to his closet knowing it was only his wishful thinking.
Dressing and walking down to meet the Alpha who succeeded his mother the Luna three years ago, he sights the pack members who now greet him respect as he is the Betta of the pack.
"where are we going?" He asks as he knew they often took business trips to other territories.
"We're going to Chicago"
