"Has the master arrived already?" They all exchanged confused glances. They were supposed to drag the princess out after the wake. Although they had heard the bells tolling for the funeral, they hadn't heard any death bells for the other princes and princesses.
"I thought I would hear the bells," said the man looming over Amber. He stood up abruptly, leaving her behind as if she didn't exist for him.
The leader placed his finger on his lips, signaling them to arm themselves.
They took their positions as a knock sounded at the door again. The leader opened it slightly to peek, but he fell to the ground, a dagger striking between his eyebrows.
It was such a clean hit that no one had time to react. The door swung open wider as the leader fell. But their frowns deepened when they saw no one standing there. Could someone disappear after throwing a dagger at their leader's head?
