Chapter 48 - The Demon's Proposal

"A PACT?!" Rainn exclaimed.

"Yeah, aren't you interested in that?" Gremory said still with a smile. At first glance, Gremory looked like a cheerful and kind woman. The demon hid its true form well behind that facade.

"Hell, no!" Reply Rain. "Why should I make a pact with a Demon? You're only going to take my soul, aren't you?"

"How did you know about that?"

"You said it yourself that time," Rainn said. Gremory frowned.

"That time? Can you hear what I'm saying?"

Rainn licked his lips nervously. "Yeah, sort of."

Gremory tilted her head. Staring at Rainn with narrowed eyes full of astonishment.

"You are truly amazing. No human before could hear a Demon's voice. Unless of course, you summoned them yourself." Gremory said.

Rainn chose not to answer it. He wouldn't say his ability to 'read', instead of 'hearing' the voice of the Demon as Gremory thought.

"Sorry, but I don't feel like I'm being praised. And I have to go back now," Rainn said.

"Why the rush? We still have time," Gremory replied, playfully. Then her eyes looked up for a moment and then back to Rainn again. As if confirming something.

"I don't want to be in Hell too long."

"Oh, Hell isn't as bad as you think." Gremory waved her hand as if to drive Rainn's words out of her sight.

"For a Demon like you maybe yes. But I'm human," said Rainn.

Gremory sighed and looked at Rainn with a look that seemed to be attempting to be patient. "Okay, I can't force you. So hold out your hand so we can make a Pact and you can hurry back."

"Uhh, what?" Rainn looked on in bewilderment. Gremory nodded merrily.

"Yes. Let's go." Gremory started extending her right hand towards Rainn.

"NO!" Rainn backed away slowly. "You're kinda creepy. I told you I didn't want to make a pact."

Even though those words 'creepy' seemed appropriate for a Demon, Gremory looked hurt when she heard Rainn's words.

"You're kinda rude," Gremory said sadly.

"I am rude???" Rainn pointed to himself. "You're trying to take my soul. And I'm the rude one?"

"I didn't say I was going to take your soul." After a short pause, Gremory said quietly. "Well, at least for now."

Rainn shook his head. "No, thank you. And I don't want to see you again."

"Oh, you'll look forward to seeing me again once you know what you're up against."

Gremory's words made Rainn's brow furrow and he stared with a clear question mark on his face.

"What are you saying?"

Suddenly the cave rumbled.

"Oh! Time's running out quicker than I thought. You have to go now. Too bad you don't want to pact with me right now because we may never meet again. And you could not get the power you need." Gremory said.

The last thing Rainn saw was Gremory's waving her hand before he finally fell into the lava beneath him.

Rainn jumped from his mat with cold sweat on his body. He looked around until he finally realized that he was back in his room. Rainn breathed a sigh of relief.

He didn't think tonight would get any worse. Earlier three Investigators were forcing him to conduct interrogations in the restaurant. Now even when he sleeps Rainn can't feel rest.

There is a demon who enters his dream and offers to take his soul. Rainn admitted that he was quite carried away by the Demon's appearance. But not so complacent enough that he was willing to give up his soul.

But the words of the Demon were quite disturbing. She said that Rainn would face difficulties in the future until he would look forward to seeing her again. Thinking about what might have led him to have to need help from a Demon again is quite unsettling.

"Wait, isn't that Demon a very cunning and deceitful creature?" Rain mumbled. Then Rainn shrugged his shoulders. There is no point in dwelling on the words of the hell-dwelling beings.

Rainn looked at his phone and he saw that it was four in the morning. Today is Sunday so no school. Rainn can use the time to tidy up his things so he could move quickly. A day off of school is really convenient.

But before starting to pack up his things, Rainn changed into his clothes and went for a morning run. He didn't care even though it was still very early.

The air in the city of Al'Modred this morning was cool. Rainn inhaled the morning air until it filled his lungs. Then start running. Rainn saw his stats begin to rise with the distance he covered.

[ Stamina: 19 ]

[ Stamina: 20 ]

[ Stamina: 21 ]

I don't know if that number means he's strong enough or not. What is clear, Rainn must continue to train his body. Too bad he couldn't use points to raise his stats.

[ Systema updated! ]

A notification appeared before his eyes. Rainn stopped and leaned against the railing of the bridge.

[ From now on, Daily Quest will start running every day. Failing to do so will lead to Punishment. ]

'Why all of a sudden...' Rainn thought with furrowed brows. But it was also pretty good because it meant he could gain experience much faster. He didn't know why the Daily Quest didn't appear before this.

[ New Main Quest Updated! ]

This one notification made Rainn put his full attention. Main Quest is a big thing.

[ Main Quest: Supernatural Inside the city. ]

Rain's eyes widened instantly. He didn't expect that this Quest would come so soon. He should have known when he finished facing the Jorogumo and the Vampire. Then add the status even more intense.

Well, there's no point in thinking about that now. He could only continue to advance and train harder from now on.

[ Daily Quest: Do push-ups 1000 times. ]

Rainn continued his run. But he turned to the basement apartment instead of continuing on the route he had planned. Of course, because he had to do pushups.

The pink color in the sky accompanied his journey back. Rainn didn't feel tired in the slightest as his status had increased.

As soon as he arrived at the basement apartment, Rainn immediately do the push-ups.

Somewhere else, a young man took a deep breath after the black cloth covering his eyes was pulled off. He looked around and realized that he was in a room that seemed to be a dungeon.

And he's not alone.

A man was wearing a brown priest robe. His head was bald and he smiled at the man. On the other hand, he saw a terrifying figure standing next to the priest.

His form is almost like a man. However, his face was damaged by blackened decay and some parts of his skull were exposed. He was wearing a black jacket but the young man was sure that behind the jacket there were more serious injuries.

"Let's get started," the priest approached with a sinister smile. Then stretched out his hand toward the young man.

Next, a scream emerged from the young man's mouth. However, the sound will not reach the surface.
