The way Sandra received the call in whisper ignited her mother's suspicion toward something she might be trying to hide from her; not to wait for her to finish the phone conversation, that old lady inquired of her daughter to feed her curiosity. "And what paled your countenance after listening to that person?"
"It's a maid asking me what to cook today."
"Sandra….your lips may be able to betray. your heart but your eyes and expression can't. Tell me the truth. What did the maid talk to you about?"
Lying was definitely what she could not do in front of her mother; that woman – as if having power to read people's minds – could perceive whatever she attempted to cover and to avoid her push to her mouth to tell the truth, Sandra had to reveal herself the news the maid just informed her.
