I woke up the next morning and he is already out of bed. I looked at my time and I was too surprise to see that it's already 8 am. I hurriedly went down and found him by the kitchen.
"Good morning…" he greeted but it seems that he is too busy in front of his laptop.
"How long have you been up?"
"An hour ago. That's the most peaceful sleep I had in a long time…" he smiled, came towards me and gave me a morning kiss.
"Did you have breakfast yet?"
"I am waiting for your permission to have a taste on those colorful things on that box…" he teased. I reached for the coffee machine and prepared myself some a coffee.
"You can't touch that…" I warned. He is laughing.
"We'll leave around 10, if you can be ready then…I'll just take one call beforehand…" he notified, and he left to close himself at the study. I toasted brown bread and put on some cream cheese and smoked salmon with avocado mashed and lemon and one with mustard dressing and roast beef with fried onions. I knocked on the door of the study and brought him the smorrebrød.
"Have this first. I don't know if you ever tried this when you were in Copenhagen…" I left the plate, and I went back to the kitchen to make one for myself. I checked my emails for urgent updates, and I made some calls. This is our life. If we are going to be together, this is what our everyday life looked like. But isn't it exciting to have an ordinary life with someone you really love?
I went up to change by 9 am. I am a little anxious meeting his parents. I have been debating for the past week about opening up to him regarding my family. Especially about my father and how he worked in Korea when I was younger. I have called my mom the other day asking about anything that she can remember about my dad's time in Korea. But she seemed to want to forget that part of her life already. It must be hard to be thinking about him after 20 years of his passing. It was 20 years already, and it seem that the memories are still hard to remember.
I was almost ready when he came up. I looked at the time, it is almost 10. I looked at myself in the mirror, I opted to wear a Ted Baker midi bouquet dress in beige with flower paintings lining the end part of the skirt. I put my hair behind my ears and twist it into a bun. I started putting on make-up, matte foundation, a touch of blush-on, eyeliner with green eye shadow, mascara and my favorite shade of Marc Jacobs lipstick.
"Are we ready?" he is now behind me, admiring my reflection on the mirror. Men surely don't take much time to get dress.
"Almost..." I replied. I inspect his looks; he is wearing a cream chino pant and a sky-blue long sleeve polo shirt. He put on some moisturizer on his face and fix his hair to his usual hairdo.
"I will be down first?"
"I'll be right behind you…" I assured him.
"Just come through the main entrance, I'll take out the car from the parking…" he kissed me and left.
"Take the things by the kitchen with you…" I informed. Aside from the macarons, I also put in a bag, a Moet strawberry champagne.
I put on some last touch of accessories, a chain rice-pearl drop earring and a pearl watch from my sister's collection. I put my phone, lipstick, lip balm, mascara, hand cream and cardholder on my pearl handle beige Chanel flap bag, grab on the Burberry beige trench coat and put on Jimmy Choo's Santina Platform Sandals with 4-inch heels. He was waiting by car on the main entrance when I got down.
"Ready?" he asked.
"I'm anxious…" I confessed.
"I'm with you…" he replied.
We arrived by their family villa at Pyeongchang-dong after 10 minutes, it isn't that far from the loft. He parked the car by the street since their garage is already full. Her sister's family must have arrived before us already. We went inside the gate without anyone greeting us. It's only when we enter the main door when a man probably in his late 60s came to greet us. He said something in Korean.
"You don't need to take off your coat and shoes, we'll be dining by the garden," Jae-woo translated it for me.
Jae-woo handed the macarons and champagne to Secretary Mo and he carried it with him while we were ushered through the back door and across the garden into what seems to be an orangery. There are already people in there. And it seems that we are the last one who arrived. I recognized Jae-yin's as she was seated facing the entrance, and I can see the look of uneasiness on her eyes. I got suspicious. Was I not invited? Didn't she know I am coming? When Secretary Mo entered to probably announce our arrival, everyone stood up and looked our way.
