Despite her hesitation, Amelia went along with the plan that Chrysanthe and Iris came up with. They were supposed to play the heroines of the townspeople, saving them from the unseelie and Night Critters while pointing out how the capital and the royal family had turned their backs on the town and had abandoned the people, leaving them to fend for themselves.
Amelia found herself standing in front of the church, seeing the dead bodies of the priest that was still hanging on the black thorny vines which she knew were conjured by Iris out of rage. Ricci had filled her in on what happened earlier and how they found Iris's mother, sister and Luca's body being hanged in the town square for everyone to see.
If she had come later than they did, Amelia knew that Jacob would have suffered the same fate. She knew that it would leave her devastated too if that happened. She might have done the same thing as Chrysanthe did, and it could be worse.
