Iris remained unmoving, her eyes glued on the lifeless bodies of her mother and her sister. Even her new brother-in-law wasn't spared at all. Her heart ached for Junifer and Luca, but she couldn't stop herself from crying, seeing her mother's body. She ignored the taunting of the townspeople and went up the stage.
It was obvious that they were tortured first before being hung as she spotted several marks of abuse on their exposed skin. One side of Junifer's face was burned, while her mother's fingers looked disfigured. Iris couldn't imagine the pain they were subjected to before her arrival.
A loud wailing sound resounded from the town's square as Iris hugged her mother's legs and cried like she'd never done before. This wasn't supposed to happen and if this was yet another nightmare, Iris deeply wished someone would wake her up from it.
