Diary Entry 11
There are several ways to get a quest. You can hang out in taverns, fine one at your local employment agency (guild), or you can use a quest broker. A quest broker is a person who, for a fee, will sell you a quest. I'm not quite sure how the system works, but I do know that the quests are one of a kind and therefore you don't have to worry about competitors. I personally recommend (and don't recommend), Scarlett O'Herring, a mermaid, if you want a quest broker. Scarlett uses a top of the line information system with the top of the line security to make sure that the quests she sells are accurate, up to date, and one of a kind. She throws competitors off by flooding her information system with dummy quests and encoding everything in her own special cipher.
So why do I also not recommend her? After an unfortunate diving encounter with a dreaded Blue Mindsucking Tang while visiting her parents, her short-term memory is not what it used to be. Scarlett is no longer able to remember which are her dummy quests and which ones are the real ones. She would have gone out of business if not for two things: the real quests she sells being the very best (in rewards anyway) and her boyfriend setting up something he calls a "Gacha". So now, a person buys a random quest from Scarlett and it is cheaper buying one but if you are unlucky, you might have to buy a dozen to get the real one like me.

I'm currently escorting a caravan from the city of Wūyā Cháo in the country of Feng Long to Shōnin no Machi 1, a town in Sakura. The usual dangers you have to look for while escorting a caravan are either attacks from bandits or monsters. Usually it's one or the other that attack but on rare occasions you might encounter both in the same area. The reason for that is if the monsters are weak enough, the bandits usually take care of them to ensure the ambush goes smoothly but if the monsters are stronger, then the bandits are more likely to set up their ambush far away from the monsters' territory. However, if the two are equal in strength, then various exceptions can occur.
Looks like this trip turned out to be one of those occasions. About halfway down the second road from the right, the scout reported a fight between a group of bandits and a pack of wargs. It looks like my caravan had the misfortune to step right in the middle of a bandit- monster turf war. The leader of the caravan, a Mister Yang Jinhai, decided that we should wait until one side finished of the other. Luckily, the scout reported half an hour later that both sides were defeated. I swear I could see Yang Jinhai's pupils turn into gold coins as he ordered everyone to loot the corpses.
There seemed to be about two dozen warg corpses and about a dozen bandit corpses. I was looting what appeared to be the corpse of the bandit leader when I noticed his boots. They were a limited-edition Sir Benthos Water-Repelling Boots with one-size-fits-all enchantment! These boots not only keep your feet dry one hundred percent of the time but by injecting your Mana into them, you could walk on water! I quickly took off my old boots and put the Water-Repelling boots on. Luckily no one seemed to care hehe.

I'm in deep trouble, as my mother's birthday is next week and I need to mail a gift today if I am going to make it on time. Thankfully I remembered before the shops were closed. Unfortunately the woman is impossible to shop for.
My mother is a famous tailor known for her enchanted clothing, so that means clothes are out but fabrics and threads are possible, if I could figure out what she had out of stock but my father has no clue when I sent him a Rune Message. I guess I could go with getting her some of the latest embroidery enchantment patterns but my sister is doing that. My brother beat me to the Scissors of Brigitannia which never dull and always cut cleanly.
Finally, a sign outside the Monster Pet Store caught my attention, 'Hellhound Puppies for Sale'. A pet! There we go, my mother loves pets (in fact the initial reason she went into the enchanted clothing business was to support her menagerie) and I know she doesn't have a hellhound yet. I went into the store and picked out a female, a pink collar with a big bow and metal skulls decal, and a hellhound license.

Got a letter from my mother telling me how much she loves the hellhound puppy which she named Belladonna.

My party was at a blacksmith's forge to repair their equipment after a bad encounter with a stone golem (nothing like a living rock to dent up plate armor and to dull and chip blades). Thankfully the nearby village had a blacksmith that can work with weapons and armor. We were just getting our estimate when the bell on the door rung. We turned around to see a woman, a girl who, and a boy walk in.
The three people immediately walked up to the clerk. "We need someone to fix this belt," said the girl as she took off her belt and placed it on the counter. The belt appeared to be made of mythril chain links with seven sockets. Three of the sockets had gems in them while the other four were crushed.
"Did you want the sockets repaired or replaced" asked the clerk.
"Repaired."
"That's good, replacing would have cost extra. Come back in a week, Old Joe should have it done by then."
"Thanks." And with that, they left.
While we were waiting for our gear to be replaced, I looked at the local quest postings. I was really disappointed as there was nothing but Rat Extermination requests. Just how bad of a rat problem does this area have? Thankfully, our equipment was soon repaired and we left.

Ahh, the open sea, the scent of the salty air, the gentle sway of the ship, the blue and pink dolphins playing, and the sounds of battle as we repel pirates make for a truly relaxing voyage. Oh right, I should probably start at the beginning. I had booked passage to Havdverg Hjem, the wealthiest port in Vinland, on the ship, the Lady Anne and we have to sail through The Sea of the Triangles Archipelago or SOTA, to get there. The Sea of Triangles is a group of ports and islands located on the sea of the same name and is infested with pirates. So naturally, we were attacked two-thirds of the way through it.
It started when the lookout up in crows nest shouted "Ship Ahoy!". The captain dug out his spyglass and I decided to do the same. Yes, I know I could have just used a spell of Farsight, but where is the fun in that? The ship itself looked like it was ready to sink any minute and had a black flag waving from the mast. The flag depicted a skull and crossbones, the skull had green fire in its eye sockets while the crossbones were shaped like scythes. I heard the captain curse.
"It's the Corpse Consort! We're under attack from Captain Lichbeard!"
"Is that bad? They're just pirates."
"Captain Lichbeard is part of the 'Dead Men Tell No Tales' pirate faction, they don't leave any survivors unlike the 'Pieces of Eight' or the 'Parley and Quarter' factions."
"Oh."
"All hands on deck! Beat to quarters men! I want the stern chasers loaded with chain-shot!"
Unfortunately, it appears that whoever was in charge of aiming needed an eye exam as the chain-shot missed the mainsail completely. Soon enough we were boarded by a crew of skeleton pirates. I casted Turn Undead after Turn Undead while the captain fought a lich with smoke coming out of its impressive beard (yes I am jealous of a mummified corpse's beard). I really don't see what the big deal was, as we quickly ran out of pirates to fight. Next thing I know, the captain ordered us to prepare the ship to go at flank speed. Seeing my confusion, the captain said, "You think they are going to stay dead for long? That lich doesn't keep its reliquary on its ship. We have a few hours at most before they rise up and attack us again and again until they wear us down! And Before you say it, for some reason you can't sink the Corpse Consort unless Captain Lichbeard is on it, of course it takes him a few days to raise it back up." I decided to use every spell I had in my arsenal that increase our speed as we got as far away from the Corpse Consort as possible.
