"Derek, wake up!" shouted a burly man, jolting Derek from his slumber. Startled, Derek leaped from his desk. It was his teacher demanding his attention. He was in his final year of high school, with just one month left to go.
"Seriously, Derek, you need to cut down on those shows," advised Ben, Derek's best friend. Derek chuckled and retorted, "Come on, Ben, not everyone can be a bookworm like you."
"That concludes today's lesson. Remember, you only have a month left to prepare for your finals," announced the teacher.
After school, Derek and Ben headed home. Though they lived in different neighborhoods, they walked together until they reached the point where they had to part ways. As they strolled, a man dressed in a sharp black suit and exuding elegance appeared before them. Introducing himself as Adam, he looked at Derek and inquired, "Are you Derek, son of Sir Borrows?" Confused by the title "Sir," Derek confirmed, "Um, yeah, I'm Derek, and my father is Mr. Borrows." Adam handed Derek a small box from his jacket pocket. Derek hesitated momentarily but eventually accepted the gift, tucking it into his trousers. Puzzled, Derek questioned, "But how is this possible? My dad passed away ten years ago when I was only eight." Adam cryptically replied, "Mr. Borrows once told me he'd never die," before vanishing before their eyes. Both Derek and Ben exchanged perplexed glances, prompting Ben to exclaim, "What the hell was that?" Derek shrugged, "I don't know."
Checking his watch, Derek cursed under his breath, realizing he was running late. He bid Ben a quick farewell and dashed into an alleyway, promising to meet him at school the next day.
"Mom, I'm hom..," Derek began, interrupted as he was enveloped in a tight hug. "Mom's not home," said Lily as she released him. Lily, his sister, stood before him, nearly his height. With long, jet-black hair tied in a ponytail and striking blue eyes, she had a petite figure. throwing his school stuff in his room, Derek inquired, "Sis, is Mom at work now?" Lily confirmed, "Yeah, and she told me to make sure you stay put until she gets back." Derek nodded, mulling over the strange encounter earlier that evening. "That guy had to be a teleporter. He just vanished right in front of us. So cool," Derek mused.
Recalling the unusual gift his father had given him, Derek pulled a small box from his pocket. Anticipation brimming, he opened it, revealing his father's glasses. "Kind of disappointing," Derek muttered, donning the glasses. Derek put on his father's glasses, and as they settled onto his face, a strange sensation washed over him. The world around him seemed to shift, colors intensifying and details becoming sharper. He blinked in surprise, his heart quickening. Confusion rippled through Derek as a digital display appeared before his eyes. The words seemed to materialize out of thin air, hovering in his field of vision. His mind raced, trying to comprehend the unexpected turn of events.
