Yun Meiyi looked at the woman whom she could no longer recognize. But wait, did she ever recognize her rightly before? Nope, all these years she was just hallucinating someone else in her face. A personality that never existed in this world.
She stared at the face of Yun Jiaqi. For once again, her eyes grew soft and warm for her. This was the same sister, whom she had embraced several times with all love and affection. So, what if they were not fully related by blood? Their father was still the same and they were the saplings of the same family. How could they be that different to turn out to be archenemies?
Yun Meiyi doesn't know what to believe. Should she believe the reality of the present that slapped her today? Or should she take all this as a nightmare and believe the warmth she felt the first time she came back to the Yun family, holding the hands of her grandfather.
She still remembers how anxious she was at that time. It was like she was a stem that was plucked off from a plant and brought to some other garden to get planted. In just one day everything changed for her.
The parents whom she took as her own since childhood, got proved to be the ones who adopted her after the death of her real mother. And the old man whom she met accidentally turned out to become her real grandfather, who arrived specifically to take her back to her real family.
Heh? Remembering it she wanted to laugh. Real family! Was it really her real family? Now seeing how everything turned out, she heavily doubted that. She was wrong to even think that today's reality could just be a nightmare. It could never. Rather it looked like today's reality was a lesson that has taught her to not be too delusional about the goodness in this world.
In the past, she thought her grandfather brought her because he longed for his eldest granddaughter. But after just a few years, he moved abroad, leaving her behind in the family house.
She had thought that her father might be missing her dead mother and would love her when she returned, but later she realized that there was never a mutual love relationship between her birth parents.
Her stepmother was like any stepmother people read about. The fair part was just that after reaching an age, she stopped torturing her to the maniacal extent she used to do back in time. The only good member she remembered in her family was Yun Jiaqi, who came to console her every time she needed.
But it only turned out today that it has never been the way she had thought it to be. In the past when her younger sister came to console her, it wasn't the warmth of sympathy she brought for her. Rather it was just the chilliness of mockery, she held for her in her heart. It was her delusional, blurry gaze that wasn't able to look through it.
And now that her delusion was broken, it was already too late. She had lost everything she earned, and now even a good memory was not left for her to cherish while walking to her deathbed.
As Yun Meiyi contemplated all her life history internally, a smile weakly curled the corner of her lips.
Yun Jiaqi looked at her smiling and for a moment, she was confused. Tugging her brows in a frown, she asked, "What are you smiling for? Don't tell me that you have grown insane."
Yun Meiyi heard her and her brows raised with some surprise. Smile didn't leave her lips as she stared at Yun Jiaqi and asked, "Why? Did my insanity start to scare you now?" Her voice became so soft and matured that for a moment, Jiaqi couldn't believe it.
Her victorious expression cracked while her eyes grew narrow, trying to find the element in Yun Meiyi's expression that brought her back the confidence. Didn't she make her lose everything? Then why was there still this itching confidence left in her? Did she fail somewhere in planning her downfall?
"You …"
"What? Did I say it right, Jiaqi? Did I scare you now? Are you now fearing my smile?" Although Yun Meiyi's expressions remained nonchalant, her wine-ish red pair of eyes surely mocked Yun Jiaqi. She didn't know what she had intended to do by provoking her like that. But it sure made her heart feel a sense of satisfaction. "You are still scared of my smile. But haven't you already won everything? I thought you did."
"I am sure even you considered that you did. In fact, everyone here thought that you did, leaving me crumbling on the ground." Yun Meiyi spoke as with the mention of everyone, she turned to scan the crowd, matching each of their gazes with the same mockery with which they have been looking at her all this while. "But you know what Jiaqi if you still fear me … fear my smile, it only meant one thing that maybe you have yet not won over me. That maybe you still fear that I may have something that you would never have."
Yun Jiaqi stood up as well. Shaking her head, a layer of evilness covered her gaze. "Nope, I have snatched away everything. You are left with nothing. Sister YiYi, look at this …" She said, as pointing at the medical reports, she added, "Look at this. I have even snatched away your life. What else could be there that I couldn't snatch away from you? Definitely, nothing. You have lost. Lost to me. Accept that."
She said and Yun Meiyi looked at her and simply smiled. Then, getting a hold of herself, she supported her body to stand up back on her feet. "It's not me who needed to accept it. It's you who has to accept it. If you believe that you have won over me, then stay happy and cherish it. As for me, I never took you as my competitor in the first place. In the past, I believed that you were my sister. And now, I simply feel you are not capable enough to stand in front of me."
She said, flapping a good strand of hair on her shoulder and then turning to leave.
Yun Jiaqi felt her insides burning. This has not been the way she dreamed Yun Meiyi to be leaving. She wanted to make her lose everything, then how come her confidence was still retained in her attitude. Shouldn't it also be crumpled by now?
"Aren't you being baselessly confident? Who do you think you are to pull that arrogant face in front of me?" Clenching her fingers on her sides, Yun Jiaqi sneered. Her doe-shaped eyes turned to give the hints of ugliness and evilness, she held in her heart.
