All the gods were surprised with the objective of the second round because compared to killing the monsters, getting their acknowledgement was much harder.
Moreover, all the monsters that come out of the portal are affected by some kind of mysterious energy that makes them go temporarily crazy.
What's more, the effects would last for a few years to centuries before they were capable of thinking straight.
