Hannah tugged at his sleeve gently, persistent as she asked again, "Is it really just because I was standing with Jimmy Simmons?"
Arnold Simmons averted his gaze, turned his head away, and the night beyond his glasses seemed blurrier than before, yet the girl's soft voice was exceptionally clear.
He parted his thin lips and slowly said, "Twenty-seven minutes and three seconds, you were alone with him, you listened to his nonsense, and he boasted to me..."
At this point, a hint of coldness crept into the man's smile as he lowered his voice, "Just as foolish as before."
Hannah leaned in, her warm hands cupping the man's cool cheeks through the glasses and met his narrow eyes, "Arnold, what did you say in your last sentence?"
Arnold wrapped his arms around her soft waist, gently tightened his embrace, and pulled her into his chest, "It's nothing."
