Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

"Who's there?" Logan turned around hastily.

Looking around, he couldn't find anybody, but for some strange reason, he could feel all the hairs on his body standing on end.

'I better get going,' He calmed himself down before he hurried down the path back home.

Rustle!

Before he could take ten steps, he heard a rustling sound coming from the side, he hurriedly turned around only to see a large shadow running through the woods. It was only for a split second, but he was a hundred percent certain that it wasn't an illusion.

"This isn't the time to be playing around, come out now." He yelled in the direction of the place the shadow disappeared.

He was met with silence once again. After taking in a deep breath, he summoned the courage, and this time, unlike before, he ran for it.

Even if he didn't know what was there, he had to get out of here.

While he was running, he could hear the sound of rushed steps following him from behind.

'Damn it! I should've just stayed at home.' He complained but didn't slow that.

With an athletic build, he was pretty fast. It only took him a few seconds to cover a three hundred meters mark. However, just as he was about to get past this mark, something slammed into him from the side.

It was as if he was rammed by a large truck and he was sent flying, slamming into the tree by the side. His vision instantly became blurry, and he could feel a metallic taste in his mouth, it was obviously blood.

Even with all this, he knew staying down was a bad idea and he hurriedly stood up. From what he had read and watched in documentaries, predators would normally target a prey when it shows its back or was on the ground helpless.

He felt given the size of the shadow he saw, a bear was attacking him. So after standing up, he tried to make himself as big as possible, hopefully scaring off the bear. If this didn't work, it would at least show the bear that he was not easy prey.

After Logan stood up, he was unable to find what rammed him into the tree. His phone was on the ground, and since the night was cloudy, he could barely use the moon as a light source.

Without thinking twice, he picked up his phone and calmly assessed his present situation.

'If it's a large bear, then my best bet is climbing up one of the trees. Given their large sizes, it would be impossible for it to come after me there.' Logan warily looked around.

He didn't dare to slip up the slightest. If he made a single mistake in a situation like this, then he would be killed by his attacker. He had already concluded that the thing attacking him wasn't a human due to the size of the shadow he saw.

While looking around, he once again dashed forward, but as soon as he heard the sound of something running after him, he made a beeline and went straight for one of the trees by the side. His initial direction was a feint.

A thought crossed Logan's head as he was running.

'What if it's a wolf? No, wolves can't be this large. Only bears fit this size, although it's a little larger than the average bear, it's not impossible to see bears this big.'

When the question came to his head, he quickly rejected it. Wolves couldn't get this big.

Just as he got to where the tree was located and prepared to climb the tree, he felt a stinging pain in his back. His vision faded for a split second, and he almost fainted.

This time, something was holding firmly onto him, and a sharp item was penetrating his back, solidly holding him in place.

The phone in his hand fell to the ground, and he screamed from the immense pain.

He was thrown into the air, and just as he was falling down, he got a glimpse of what was below him thanks to the light from his phone which was on the floor.

The creature stood on two hind legs, it had the stature of a human but was well over two meters tall and very hairy. Its face however was that of a wolf with long fangs protruding from its mouth.

Before he got to the ground, he heard rushed footsteps, and he could tell that it wasn't from a single person.

The creature below him turned to look in that direction and quickly turned around to flee.

"You can't escape." Came an indifferent voice from the side.

It was surprisingly that of a lady.

Logan's head was currently messy and he could barely process things, but he saw a small shadow move past him so fast that it was almost impossible to see. He closed his eyes from the exhaustion of the pain he was going through, but he felt a hand holding onto him before he touched the ground.

The hand held onto him, placing him on the ground.

He was in a somewhat semi-conscious state. It was like he was asleep, yet he could hear everything happening around him.

There was a distinct sound of fighting but he couldn't hear it clearly.

Crash! Bang!

He continuously heard the sound of something heavy crashing into the trees by the sound.

The fight lasted for over three minutes, and although it wasn't a long time, for Logan who was hanging on to life by a thread, it was like a lifetime.

After the battle ended, he heard subtle sounds of people arguing.

"This is why I told you to take care of it immediately, but you clearly didn't listen to me. Now see, another casualty," A man said calmly.

"It's normal for there to be casualties. Humans here should know not to move around in the night," The voice of a lady rebutted.

"He's already on the verge of death. Taking him to the hospital will not be able to help. We can as well just leave him here and it will be reported as a wolf attack again." The man said indifferently.

Logan heard footsteps coming close to him, he forced himself to open his eyes, and to his greatest surprise, the face he saw was one that he had been seeing in class recently. Even in the darkness of the night, that facial figure was something hard to forget.

"D..." He tried to speak out, but blood was the only thing that came out of his mouth.

The young lady looked at Logan with an indifferent look, she recalled they were in the same class in Dixon High.

"He's a classmate from school, a shame he's going to die," Daphne turned to the man by her side.

"Why would a teenager be moving in the woods at this time. He's obviously up to no good." The man said coldly.

It was already past 10 pm so the man found Logan's night movement quite strange, especially given what was happening around this town.
