As the elven army marched forward, Tursas slowly let his rage and anger stew. To him and most Vermillion elves, assaulting civilians was a taboo. Most of the Elven cities were comprised of 80% Heliotrope elves, while the 20% were Vermilion elves with disabilities or those that worked crafts related to war, such as crafts and metallurgy.
While Vermillion elves considered themselves superior in battle, they knew their everyday lives relied heavily on Heliotrope elves. The ones who farm and produce infrastructure, design education, and create administrative policies were all moonlight elves. Without them, Alfheim wouldn't have cities and would mostly be tribal in nature.
Consequently, while the Heliotrope elves took pride in their arts and culture, the Vermillion elves had their raison d'être in the safety and security of Alfheim, thus with each civilian killed. It was a reminder of the failure of the elves of the Sunfire.
