Chapter 1 - PROLOGUE

PROLOGUE

"Did you sign any contract with Peterson?" asked Lucian, glaring at the woman who sat naked in his bed. He couldn't believe it. No, this cannot be happening again, whined his wolf. Was history really fucking repeating itself with him right now?

"Damn it, answer me." he snarled. His wolf stood on hind legs, glaring at the woman. Somehow, he knows this wasn't her fault. He knew Peterson was the problem here. But the bastard wolf wasn't here. She was. And she would have to face his wrath

Ava stared at the man who, a few hours ago, held her gently. Didn't they just make love? What a sudden transition. Glaring back at him, she started to leave the bed. Her hands shook as she clutched the duvet to her naked boobs. If he noticed her discomfort, he said nothing. Instead, he got out of bed too and went ahead to block her path.

"Lucian!" she yelled in warning. If he was going to make a fool of himself, she wouldn't stop him. But no way in hell was she going to let him drag her into his folly. "Move." Even she was surprised at the harsh way she pushed past him.

He didn't budge. He stood there rigidly, watching her intently. Was that a glow in his eyes? Staring at him, she stepped closer.

Lately, she was drawn to those eyes. She was sure she didn't mistake the change in colour of his eyes. Lucian was a grey-eyed man. How his grey eyes went from grey to glowing red is amazing. Shaking her head, she dismissed the thought. She must have been too angry she was seeing things now. Her hand reached for his face, but he avoided her like the plague. Then he stepped aside.

"I asked a question, damn it," Lucian bellowed, then turned away from her. She must have seen the red glow of his eyes. His wolf didn't care if she did. He was so angry.

"Did you or did you not sign a contract with that son-of-a-bitch?" he asked again with his face still turned away from her.

"I see no reason why that should be your problem," she retorted, walking away from him. Like herself, he was stark naked and unabashed. The same body that she reverend last night stood now in all its naked glory. But her body was unmoved.

All she could see was the anger emanating from his body. She wondered what she could have done to make him so angry. Even if she did sign a contract, why was he mad about it? Shouldn't he be happy she was making something with her life? After all, she had just told him how much she wanted to start her restaurant business.

"It's my problem, especially when the said man is my worst enemy," he exclaimed out angrily as he turned to face her. His eyes had taken on the full red glare, but he didn't care anymore. She wouldn't even look at him.

Scared, she ran out of the bedroom. His raging eyes followed her body until she locked herself in his bathroom. He heard her shower hurriedly as he would badge in there. Damn it! He wanted to. He was hard already as he imagined her sumptuous body all wet.

But the thought of Peterson and what he was up to this time held him back. How would he make Ava understand the wolf wasn't someone she could be around? The bathroom door opened slowly, and Ava stepped out. "He's my rival. How could you do this to me?"

In her distraught state, Ava didn't see the dangerous red glow in his eyes. All she saw was pain, deep pain. But nothing he was going through compared to how much pain she was in. This same man she was falling in love with had just accused her of falling in bed with the enemy. How ridiculous. Her heart broke with each hurtful word he hauled at her. She grabbed her things hurriedly while he kept ranting.

Several times in her head, she yelled at him to shut his freaking mouth. But outwardly, she just grabbed her things haphazardly. The faster she was out of here, the better for both of them. Haven taken everything. She stood to check if she did have her things. Looking everywhere but his face, she sighed. She had all her things.

Whatever was left, she was sure he would send them over. No matter what it was, she wasn't coming back here.

She opened the door and slammed it hard in his face before leaving his apartment. Only when she was outside did she stop to think. "What was that all about?" she asked herself as she slumped against the wall. Only then did she let the tears start falling.
