Chapter 30 - The Fate Of Humanity (2)

After a few more minutes, Rebecca chased the five pilots out of her office, leaving them to process the information that had been shared however they wanted to. She only wanted them to be aware of their impending transfer early.

"What is the meaning of this?" Bethany grumbled to herself. She turned to the others with an irritated huff.

"It isn't that a good thing? We are going to hold back the Xenon, fight for humanity." Moses frowned at her. Bethany pursed her lips, but did not say anything more. Seeing her dissatisfied expression, he could only shake his head.

While everyone here wanted the best for humanity, they all had their own different ideologies. For example, he mostly just wanted to fight the Xenon while defending the human race. These goals did not contradict each other so he could carry them out without problem. While he cared for his own like, he would rather die fighting the Xenon than die of old age in the backlines. Not everyone shared this same idea with him, as some were more comfortable serving in safer places where they could live stably, than in the frontlines.

Shaking his head, he turned around a left down the hallway. With this piece of information shared to them, it was clear that they needed to up their game against the Xenon. That meant more training. He branched by the mess hall, getting a small nutrient bar, and munching on it as he made his way back to the training hall.

In the Central Dominion, the office of the President of Sol, the President himself was seated in his chair, with three people seated opposite him in the form of holographic projections. They had been intensely discussing the direction they would take after receiving news from the frontlines.

"I strongly suggest we begin to draft from the civilians en-masse. This is the only way we can keep up with the progression of the war on the frontlines. Not only that, but the next phase of the Paladin project should be moved up. Only by fielding stronger Paladins can our warships truly focus on the enemy's warships, and the Paladins can even help by taking care of the weaker warships." The President, Roland Heart, spoke firmly. Roland was a burly man that gave off a steady, yet aggressive vibe. He had served in the military some time ago before eventually becoming the President and moving to the Central Dominion, which was situated on Earth.

"Such a move will cause a large amount of dissatisfaction amongst the masses. The backlash would be massive." One of the the three people sitting opposite him said with dissatisfaction.

Under the President were three Chief Ministers that handled administrative duties for him. The one who spoke was a middle aged female that went by the name of Isabella Markov. She was a woman with a stiff spine that represented the interests of the masses, so it was not out of anyone's expectation that she did not agree with Roland's suggestion.

"Indeed, it will cause dissatisfaction amongst the masses, but that is only a small price to pay when the survival of the human race is at stake." Another Chief Minister who went by the name Louis Martin spoke up, adjusting the neck tie that rested around his thin neck. He stared down his narrow nose at Isabella's projection as he spoke.

"I agree with Louis, we should be more proactive in this war. No one will be able to enjoy peace if they do not contribute their part to the whole of humanity." The third Chief Minister was a chubby man with a round belly whose name was Bellar Martini. He crossed his thick arms over his bulging belly as he spoke, his voice deep and throaty.

The three briefly got into an argument as they threw their views and thoughts back and forth, using words as their swords and rifles on their own battlefield. Roland watched them go at it for a few minutes before firmly clearing his throat.

"Ahem. I believe we should do a vote on it." He said, his eyes connecting with the gazes of the others. Very soon, a vote was cast, and Isabella had a dissatisfied look on her face as she was on the losing side.

"We shall begin to draft young and middle aged men and women en-masse in seven days time. A civilization-wide announcement will be made tomorrow by 12pm prompt, Earth Time." Roland went over the agreements that had been made over the course of the meeting. "That will be all." He concluded, and the projections of the various Chief Ministers blinked off one by one.

When he was alone, Roland rubbed his chin in thought. "I wonder how Stewart's project is going. That little side project... If we can confirm the first one was not a fluke, then the Paladins could really end up being our breakthrough point in this war." His eyes sparkled as he imagined a future where humanity did not need to send their future leaders to a meat grinder in order to survive.
