Chapter 5 - Accidents Happen

Moses felt like his brain was liquefying, and his bones were being pounded into dust. Even with that, he still managed to hold on to his awareness. The one thing that helped him hold on was his unquenchable hatred for the Xenon. They took everything from him, so he had to take it all from them too.

As he focused on his conviction, he could feel something changed inside of him. It was like a small spark had turned into a scorching bonfire.

"ARGH!" He screamed out loud. The gel around him began to shake and tremble as the electric currents around him intensified.

Behind his tube, a pitch black, shiny substance began flowing into the larger tube. The substance swirled and formed various shapes, but it was unable to take proper form.

"Professor! Something strange is happening with Moses Magair!" A researcher exclaimed.

"What? Bring up his telemetry!" Stewart strode over to that end of the panel and looked at the various charts that showed off Moses' life signals. A lot of the charts were already in the red, with only a few being at the upper end of the green areas. It was bad.

Stewart's eyes bulged when he saw it all. He was just about to call for the process to be shut down when the sound of glass shattering rang out through the speakers.

"WHAT?!" The white haired man wanted to go mad with shock.

The giant tube behind Moses had burst apart as the black, metallic substance within it went mad and lost control. It surged towards Moses' tube, pressing against it until the glass around it shattered as well, allowing it to consume Moses.

"Send in the suppression teams! Stop it all now!" Stewart lost his cool and began yelling orders, but it was too late.

"I'm sorry, sir, but we can't stop now! It has already reached a critical point! Stopping now will kill them either way!" The researcher responded hastily.

"Dammit!" Steward completely blew his cap. He turned around and stormed out of the observation room. A dozen heavily armed guards flanked him as he walked around to quickly reach the room where Moses ad the others were.

"Professor, please calm down. We should wait until everything has calmed down before we enter." A guard tried to calm down the white haired scientist.

"No!" Stewart snapped.

"Your guard is right, Professor." Admiral Gustavo's voice boomed from behind. The burly Admiral walked with his usual confident gait. The only difference being that he walked faster. He probably rushed here to stop Stewart's irrational actions.

"But I can not stop! If I lose Moses, I fail!" The old professor dug his hands into his white hair.

Admiral Gustavo's eyes softened for a moment before steeling up again.

"No. You must wait. His life is trivial compared to yours. Guards, seize him. Do not let him go until the process is completely over and everything has calmed down.

"No! Unhand me, you incompetent mongrels!" The moment the guards moved to restrain the professor, he suddenly burst out. From underneath his lab coat, a three meter tall, white and silver coated, combat suit unfolded around him. It complete dwarfed the combat suits of the guards around him.

With a single swing of his right arm, he sent three guards flying across the hall. The others quickly moved to subdue him, but they were completely outmatched.

The old professor was a sly man. Ever since he began spearheading most of humanity's most sensitive and precious experiments and research operations, he had made sure to do his best to protect himself. He had secretly built a special, high grade, heavy combat suit. It was at least three times stronger than the combat suit of his current retinue of guards! He had never thought to expose this at a time like this, but it was necessary. The life of closest friend's son was at risk!

Stewart bulldozed his way through the mass of soldiers as he turned the corridor and raced toward the chamber where the tubes were. When he opened the blast doors, a bizarre scenery was unfolding before his eyes.

Rainbow lights bounced around the room, nearly blinding him. If it weren't for the optical censors of the combat suit, he would not have been able to see a single thing.

All of the rainbow light poured out from the broken tube where Moses had once been. Now, in the center of the room, the mass of high tech nano-machines that had been made with incredibly precious exotics and other materials was starting to solidify, taking the form of a ten meter tall mech.

Moses' Paladin was coming into proper form!

But...

Why did it not form within the tube according to plan? Why did it break out to consume Moses?

"Don't tell me..." As a radical scientist, Stewart's mind immediately went off the rails. It went to the most radical outcome that could have happened.

"The Paladin is sentient, and it is consuming Moses for more power?! Moses, my boy! I'm coming to save you!" Jet boosters spread open on the back of Stewart's combat armor and he shot forward in the next second, heading straight for Moses.

As he moved in the air, the space around him suddenly froze, stopping him in place.

"What? Spatial Manipulation? This is an advanced application of science? How is this possible?!" The professor was stumped. He turned back to look at what the newly created Paladin was up to.

As its form became increasingly more complete, it began to take on a red hue. The machine slowly stepped toward Richard's tube, where the man continued to spasm and convulse. It placed its large hands around the test tube and froze.

"What is it doing?" Stewart mumbled. He was actively trying to break free from his constrictions, but it was taking too much time.

As he was thinking, a dense pulse of energy bounced around the room. Stewart was shocked and turned toward the Paladin with its hands placed against Richard's tank. The waves of energy were coming from it!
