Lieutenant Garrett stirred his horse to a halt as he arrived the guard post in just a short time and as his horse approached, a soldier already awaited to take the reins and return the mount to the stables.
Garrett dismounted his horse, he patted the shoulder of the soldier in gratitude before he strode up the stairs leading to the top of the city wall.
As he walked down the city wall, the guards bowed in greeting from their posts while he nodded in response till he arrived at the vantage point that overlooked the vast forest beyond the wall, on the East side of the fortress.
Lieutenant Garrett's eyes narrowed as he peered over the walls, his eyes squinted since it was quite difficult to see clearly in the darkness of the night.
It took a moment for Garret's eyes to adjust to the darkness.
For a moment, lieutenant Garrett quietly observed ahead of him and when he saw no movement, a sense of relief settled over him.
