Chapter 15 - Meeting The New Neighbor (Ch.15)

"Sums!" Kaylani shrieked, rushing out of the kitchen with her hands over her ears to the sound of Summer's howling laughter.

Kaylani did not wish to hear even a bit of what Summer had to say.

"How about the sandwich?!" Summer yelled to Kaylani who hurried up the stairs to her room.

"Make your sandwich yourself!" Kaylani yelled back to her.

"Come on Lani! I won't talk about it anymore!" Summer promised.

"Too late! Make me one while you're at it!" Kaylani yelled back as she stepped into her room and slammed the door shut.

"By the way, I've been calling you all day, where'd you leave your phone?!" Summer called up to Kaylani.

"Lost it!" Kaylani yelled back, not surprised to pick up the sound of Summer's hurried footsteps rushing up the stairs.

Summer pulled open the door and stuck her head in.

"You did what?! So what happens to sexting Damon?! This won't work, I'm heading out to get you a new one!" Summer exclaimed in panic as though she had just heard the most horrifying thing.

Kaylani sometimes wondered if Summer heard the words she was saying, a few days ago, she had not hesitated to declare Damon's inadequacies, yet now she acted like his biggest fan.

"I already got one Sums and no, there's no sexting going on between Damon and I. He has his hands full with the new project and I'm also busy at work. Now are you going to make me the sandwich? Or should I just kick you out?" Kaylani asked.

"Urrrggh...fine!" Summer groaned as she shut Kaylani's door and headed back down.

Kaylani chuckled quietly, she was already accustomed to Summer's antics but sometimes she could not help but be mortified by her words.

Kaylani wondered what exactly Damon had ratted out to Summer about them and she made a mental note to give him a stern lecture about keeping their private affairs private.

Kaylani groaned as she took in a whiff of freshly baked cookies, knowing Summer was at it again in the kitchen.

While Kaylani had somehow found herself becoming Summer's personal chef, when it came to baking, Summer was just the best at it.

It was astonishing how the hyperactive photographer could bake such amazing pastries but could hardly cook an edible meal every other day.

Even her sandwich was just passable, although Kaylani would never say it out loud.

Kaylani chuckled to herself as she continued going through the recent photographs Summer had taken of her some weeks back.

Kaylani swore Summer had a picture of her in every situation, she just whipped out her camera and took photos at the oddest moments.

Whatever it was, Summer and Kaylani were far different from each other in personalities, yet Kaylani found this was precisely why she loved the hyperactive female.

"Hey, love! I'm heading out to the neighbor's for a bit! Gotta confirm those rumors going around and see for myself, don't know if the mysterious hottie is home but I'll be back in a bit!" Summer yelled up to Kaylani.

"Yeah, okay." Kaylani murmured distractedly as she continued swiping through the photos.

It took Kaylani a short moment before she actually processed what Summer had said and she jumped to her feet, rushing over to her window.

Kaylani caught sight of Summer's brunette tresses as she happily walked down the street to the mansion next door, a box of cookies in her hand and a creepy smile on her face.

The typical Summer expression when she was intent on getting first glimpse of some hunk.

"Urrrggh, Summer!" Kaylani groaned in annoyance,

Kaylani had not interacted with the new neighbor since he moved in, she was never one to interact with neighbors.

It was why she had especially gotten a mansion in an estate where everyone minded their own business, too busy to care about the affairs of another.

Kaylani did not see the need to exchange false pleasantries when she was not at all interested in making acquaintances with the new neighbor.

Kaylani also considered the fact that this supposedly handsome new neighbor lived in his mansion without even turning the heater on, looking as though he was never home and if truly he was home, who knew what kind of creep lived there?

With that thought in mind, Kaylani groaned as she glanced down at the pair of shorts she was wearing that stopped just below her derriere,

Kaylani considered changing into something else but shrugged and dashed down the stairs.

Kaylani pulled open her door and headed out to her yard, groaning when she realized Summer had already arrived before the door of the mansion next door, her hands poised to knock.

Kaylani opened her mouth to call out to Summer but realizing it would come off a certain way if the next door neighbor was home, Kaylani snapped her mouth shut.

Kaylani instead slammed her door closed and headed out to the street, leaning against her mailbox as she watched Summer from a distance.

If Summer was intent on paying welcome greetings to the next door neighbor, she was welcome to do as she pleased, but Kaylani had no intentions to have any parts in it.

Kaylani intended to stand right where she was and wait for Summer to be finished with her business, however things did not go as Kaylani planned.

The very moment the door to the next door mansion swung open, it only took a short conversation before Summer turned to Kaylani with a wide smile.

"Lani! Come on over and meet the new neighbor!" Summer called out to her.
