Evelyn gasped for air as she tried to peel his hands off of her neck but it seemed it was glued to it, and he probably won't release her neck until she stops breathing.
Evelyn knew it because she had seen him kill people, she had seen him strangle people's neck, and they never escaped from him. He never stopped till they turn frail on the ground.
