Chapter 22 - Episode 20: Imposter

Team 2 is stunned. Oscar, completely confused, spoke up. "You want to play a game? I thought this test was combat focused."

King squints at Oscar with contempt. "Nope, the only instruction I was given was to test you for five minutes and decide if you pass or not." Then Kings voice falls to a whisper as he speaks. "...and not to kill you."

Alme sighs loudly. "I hate team 1."

Maria chuckles, to Alme's annoyance. "You hate them only because all of their test have been combat based while we had to do more mental test."

Alme clinched his fist tightly and in a pouty whisper exclaims. "I joined the inquisitors to kill daemons, not play scavenger hunt."

King's eye twitches as he listens to team 2 argue. With every word spoke King grows ever more annoyed. "If we don't start this test soon, I'm just going to fail you!"

Team 2 quickly straightened up. Oscar spoke up respectfully. "What is imposter?"

King's annoyed face quickly changed into a face full of childish joy. "The game is simple. I will change all four of our appearances to appear featureless. Then you guys will have five minutes to discover which one is me hance the name imposter."

Oscar's mouth contorted into a sly smile as he approached King. King's eyes widened as he looked down at Oscar's hand, waiting for a handshake. Oscar chuckled slightly. "if this is a game, we should have good sportsmanship, so good luck."

King, with a surprised smile, reached out, shaking his hand gleefully. Maria smiled, shaking her head as Oscar walked back, looking proud of himself. "Did you do what I think you did?"

Oscar shrugs his shoulders, smiling uncontrollably. "If I did it prolly won't kill him."

Alme gives Oscar an affirmative nod before looking over to King. "I think we are ready anytime you are."

King, still gleefully looking at his hand, jumps at Alme's voice. "Right, then let's get this game underway." King's eyes glow bright white as he claps his hands together. "KING'S DOMAIN!"

All four of them all turned into pure white figures featureless, not even their voices sounded like their own. The only feature they were left with was their mouths. With another clap, all of them were teleported to each corner of the field. One participant of the game quickly raised their hand. "I am Alme!"

The other three participants looked at him. Even without any distinctive features, Alme could tell that they were looking at him with skepticism. Another participant slowly raised their hand. "I am Maria."

Then Another raised their hand confidently. "I am Oscar. I don't know why we are playing whose who. Let me just end this game instantly"

Oscar then snaps, and to everyone's surprise, the same arm he snapped with explodes, doing minor damage to him yet sends him flying backward. Alme shocked screams. "How the hell?"

Maria looks at the last participant, who was oddly quiet. "I can't tell if Alme is who he says he is. However, at least he said what his name was. As for Oscar, I know for a fact from that explosion that he is who he says he was. So, who are imposter?"

The last participant points at Maria. "You have to forgive me. It's just really odd to talk to someone trying to steal my name."

Alme snaps back and forth between the two participants. "Wait, so you're both saying your Maria?"

Oscar gets up clinching his arm thinking to himself. 'How the hell did I get hit by my own miracle? I could swear I place it on his hand. So, why did I explode instead?' Oscar then jumps as theories rushed into his head. "Alme, this genuinely might be unwinnable!"

Alme looks over at Oscar, confused and slightly mad. "What makes you say that?"

Oscar stands to his feet, groaning in pain. "I think his miracle is something close to mind control." Alme, even without his features, is visibly confused. Oscar opens and closes his hand repeatedly to judge how injured he is. "Back before we started, I swear he killed me, yet I wasn't dead. It was unreal. Then there was the backfire of my hand. I swear I activated my miracle on his hand. However, I think he made me activate on my own with mind control."

Alme gasped as he contemplated Oscar's theory. 'If that's the case, it would be hard to find the real imposter. However, I know I am Alme and Oscar is who he says he is. So, one of the Marias is an imposter.'

Oscar laughs. "Hey Alme, you thinking what I am? Cause I'm thinking we knock both of them out and see if the miracle fades after."

Alme smiles and jumps, surprised yet gives him a nod of agreement. The two men walked over to the Marias, ready to strike. Alme clinches his fist. "Maria, we are going to knock both of you out to make sure we find the imposter."

One of the Marias quickly protests. "Wait, we don't have to do that. I am clearly Maria. Are you guys idiots?"

The other Maria puts her hand on her chest. "I understand it's the most efficient way to pass this test. Go ahead, I won't resist."

Oscar and Alme look at each other, nodding and quickly attack the Maria who protested. With little effort, they manage to knock her out. However, they remained featureless. Oscar confused looks at Alme. "Wait, if we got the imposter shouldn't the miracle fade?"

Giggling catches their attention as they turn around to see the Maria who agreed laughing. "You guys are so bad at this game."

Alme steps back, shocked. "Wait a minute, your King, but Maria would never act like a child."

King smiled wickedly. "How easy brains are influenced by what they can't see. Oh well, time for the next round!"

Oscar and Alme reach out for King as he claps, causing them to reappear at the corners of the field. Alme looks at the clock and winces. 'Only two minutes left and back to square one. At least there are only two of them now.'

From the stands Caleb watches intently before his eyes shoot wide open. "Hey wait!"

Sable smirks slightly toward Caleb. "Yeah, you noticed it too, huh?"

Caleb smacks the railing furious. "This test is freaking unwinnable!"
