" About damn time, you got here." came a snappish voice from the car as soon as Nick entered the car, his butt didn't even get the chance to warm up his seat before he was scolded. Frowning, Nick looked at the girl who was sitting on the passenger seat with a haughty snarl on his face, her red hair tied in a messy ponytail and her green eyes that were very similar to his had a hazy red hue to it, most probably the girl spent her night playing games on her cellphone.
Nick slid inside the car and locked his door ignoring all the pounding and pleading his dad was doing outside his car and turned all his attention to his baby sister. " Romi, how many times I have told you that you cannot curse at me or anyone else who is older than you …and were you playing games till the morning again? If you continue like this, you are going to get glasses stuck on your eyes real soon."
Then he turned around and winded the window of his car down while his dad was still going on and on about the new girl that he was trying to get him hitched with. " And she got an A in fashion designing, why don't you——"
" Alright dad, I got it," said Nick as he handed his bottle of water to his dad and patted the old man on his upper arm. " I will think about it alright, now let me leave... I need to drop Romi to the school before heading to the office."
" Romi? As in our Romilda?" Mr Newman crouched down and peered inside only to find that his son wasn't making an excuse, his daughter was indeed sitting inside the car. For two seconds, Mr Newman blinked before he snapped in a stern voice, " Romilda Newman, what do you think you are doing? Why didn't you leave on the school bus that we pay for every month? Do you even know the charges of that yellow tin car? I can buy ten golf club sets with the price that I have to pay for your school bus and its stupid taxes! If you are going to ask your brother to drop you off at school then just quit the bus! At least we will be able to save money that way."
" Yada, Yada, Yay!" was the only thing that Romi said as she stuffed her forefinger in her ears and started singing loudly so that she didn't have to listen to her dad's scolding.
Nick who has gotten used to his dad and sister's banter sighed and gunned the engine. " Later Dad."
Then he drove out of the parking lot and only then did Romi stopped her singing the stupid song that she was singing when her dad was scolding her.
" You need to stop doing that to dad," said Nick as he tried to suppress his annoyance when he watched Romi take out her phone and started tapping on it. He really focused believe it, she played games on her cellphone for an entire night and now she was wasting her time on the phone. He tried to ignore it once and twice but then he couldn't ignore it. " Are you even listening to me? You need to stop being disrespectful towards dad and maybe try to read some books then wasting time on these stupid games that you keep playing."
Romi rolled her eyes and shut her phone down. " Jeez, you are so exaggerating. Sometimes I wonder whether I have an elder brother or sister, like damn, you harp-like our mom. And I wasn't doing anything disrespectful, alright? Maybe you guys need to take a chill pill—— I don't skip bus every day, yes sometimes but not always and I wasn't playing games, I was trying to study for my math exams that's today."
"Maybe if you studied for it before a month or so when I was your age I used to——"
" To be the perfect child to our parents, yeah?" chewing on her chewing gum, Romi mockingly smiled. " I have heard it more than a thousand times, you don't need to repeat it. Our mom and dad do that every day."
Nick stared at his sister not knowing how to get past her, she was getting more and more out of hand… and there was simply nothing he could do. Her grades were dropping and she looked like she was a living dead with all that gothic makeup that she was putting open on her face. She used to be prettier when she used to stay bare face.
He has tried to make her understand but she just never listened to him, sometimes he even wondered whether he was in the wrong but then he was the prefect of his school and everyone praised him, so there was no way he was the one who was being wrong here.
Compared to his baby sister who was like a rebellious chick he should know better right?
" Enough about me though, did you reject another match that mom and dad brought for you?" asked Romi looking like she was having a good time.
Nick pursed his lips and sullenly nodded. " Yes, she shoplifted. I can't marry a criminal like her."
" When?"
" When what?"
" When did she shoplift?"
Nick didn't know how this mattered but he still answered, " When she was in elementary school."
The car fell to an awkward silence before—— " hahaha! You are so damn funny, big bro!" Romi laughed out loud as she clutched her stomach. " You —- you rejected her just because she shoplifted an eraser from a shop when she was ten? And you even called her a criminal, are you serious?"
" What's the laughing matter here?" asked Nick in a stern voice as he slammed the break when he noticed the red light glowing on the traffic light. His gaze drifted to the watch that was showing him that he was five minutes late but he still didn't break the rule even though there were no traffic police, he was an upright citizen, he must never break the rules! While they were waiting for the red light to turn green—— news was playing on the big screen on the tall building in front of them.
' Derren Blake reportedly responsible for the cold-blooded murder of Minister James aided and backed by his sister Vanessa Blake is still at lose, the government requests the public to keep their eyes open and report to the helpline number below in case they catch glimpse of Derren Blake the mafia lord of the underworld.'
Below they were showing a picture of Derren Blake but for reasons unknown, to them, they didn't show any pictures of Vanessa Blake before moving on to the next segment of the news.
Nick clutched the steering wheel and fueled with his righteousness, he turned to Romi. " You see why education is important? If you don't study you will become like them."
" Derren Blake and his sister both hold three master's degrees and five professional degrees what are you talking about?"
