I almost shuddered when I saw him. His eyes bore into mine with an emotionless stare. He didn't blink or budge at all, making my skin crawl.
"Hey." I heard Maxence whisper to me. I took a step back.
"Y-yeah."
"Are you okay?" He asked with concern. I tried to smile when suddenly someone opened the bar door and I almost gasped. I didn't want them to confront each other!
Xavier walked into the bar with his dominating aura. He exhibited an authoritative presence around him that genuinely scared anyone.
"Get away from her," his voice was as calm as ever as he said those words to Max. "Now."
Max looked at the man, confused. Then he looked at me. "Who's he?"
"Why don't you ask me?" Xavier replied in my place and by now, he was standing face to face with him.
"Man, cool it down. Who are you?"
"It doesn't matter who I am. She…" He glanced at me and looked at Max with a smirk. "Is the mother of my child."
His eyes widened when he said that. I looked down. I was so messed up in my life. I didn't know what I was doing and I had no idea who I should go with. And now Max knew about Andrew, so of course, he was going to freak out.
It was no doubt that Xavier was a monster and I hated him to the core but did I really have a choice to avoid him when he could hurt Andrew whenever he wanted to?
"She has a child? And it is yours? So, you're her husband?"
"Why does everyone assume that?" His voice was frustrated when he pulled me by my arm and connected our shoulders. "I am not her husband but she is mine."
"How?"
It seemed like Max didn't understand what was going on. Frankly, I wanted Max to leave because if he took a joint from Xavier, it was going to be a lot of trouble for him. Even if Max was a CEO and had his own connections, he wasn't a monster like Xavier. He could never be as cruel as him.
Not the new him, anyway.
Xavier chuckled. "Who are you to ask any of these questions?"
"I…" His gaze lingered on me as he tried to search for an answer. His eyes exhibited confusion mixed with sadness as he replied: "I am her friend."
"Yes, sure you are."
He looked at Xavier confused. Then, he changed the subject. "How old is her child?"
"How does that—" Xavier was cut off by him.
"Just–Just answer me."
"6 years. Why?"
I closed my eyes as I realized why he asked that question. He was going to know everything. He was going to know it and he was going to be extremely angry.
"Is that so?" His confused face finally went away and a cold smirk replaced it. "So, you're the one she cheated on me with."
Xavier raised his eyebrow and realization fell upon him.
"Oh. Oh, I thought you were her friend. Didn't think you were her ex."
He looked at me and I looked down. "So, you're also a cheater, huh, Scarlet? You never told me."
I breathed heavily. This wasn't going right. The past didn't need to be brought up like that!
"Once. I made the mistake once, Max." I ignored Xavier's comment and looked at him. "But now that it is done… Can you leave?"
He scoffed. "You're asking me to leave again?"
"Or I can make you." Xavier jumped in between the conversation. "She is too lenient. Don't you think that you don't deserve to be alive?"
"You think you can manipulate me?" Max scowled in irritation. "How is he any better than me, Scar? Tell me!"
"I didn't say he was!" I shouted.
I met with a deathly gaze from Xavier and I immediately shut up. I knew that he was also going to make my life hell, but how could I support him just because of that?
"You wanna fight, big boy?" Xavier looked at Max.
"No. I have better ways. And I am going to make sure that you don't live."
He smirked at the reply. I couldn't help but feel like crying. Everything was falling apart and I was the reason — still I couldn't do anything better than to stand and watch them become enemies.
After saying that, Max glanced at me and left the bar. I stood alone with Xavier and my heartbeat increased. I just wanted to escape.
I heard a loud sigh from him. When I looked up to see his face, he looked angry, irritated, and mostly frustrated.
He took my hand harshly and dragged me out of the bar.
