The moment Alexa finished eating, she stood up and left the room after muttering a "thank you for the food" to Axel. She went straight to her room, locked the door, and jumped on the bed. She was exhausted, and all she wanted at that time was to rest and think.
But it seemed it wasn't yet time for her to get undisturbed rest, as soon after she closed her eyes, a soft knock on her door reached her ears, causing her to snap her eyes open.
"Who's there?" She asked, flinging her legs off the bed and sitting up.
"It's me. Can I come in?" She heard Uncle Ben's voice, and she pushed herself off the bed, trudged toward the door, and opened it. She moved away while still holding the door, silently inviting him in. After he stepped in, she locked the door again.
She moved lazily back to the bed and her eyes, which had relaxed after she heard the familiar voice outside the door, shifted to her uncle, who had taken the single sofa beside the bed.
