Alita fought the urge to take another look at the man she had locked eyes with moments ago. It was strange because she had never had such interest in a man to the point of wanting to send a second glance.
She turned around to search for Kayla and found her dancing with a different man. Alita let out an inaudible sigh.
When she turned back to the bar, a man was standing close to her. She could feel his burning gaze on her skin. Alita turned her head to look at him, but he didn't avert his gaze.
"Yes? Can I help you?" Alita asked, seeing the way he was looking at her like a hungry puppy waiting for its favorite food to be served.
The man nodded his head enthusiastically and smiled, showing off badly stained yellow teeth which almost caused her to puke.
"Yes. I like to take you home with me tonight. What do you say?" She heard the man's gruff voice and at the same time, his foul breath assaulted her nostrils.
Alita became dumbfounded, her face holding an incredulous expression. What did this poor excuse of a man just say to her? What did he think she is? Anger began to stir within her as she turned away from the man without saying anything.
As she turned her attention toward the drink in her hand, she wondered why she had even agreed to follow Kayla. While still in thought, she heard the gruff voice beside her again. " Hey, you didn't answer me."
Her hand around the glass tightened as she turned to look straight into the man's eyes.
"F*ck off." She deadpanned.
A subtle smile flashed across Axel's face when he heard Alita's response to the man. Though he wasn't looking directly at her, his attention had been on her since he saw her and remembered who she was.
He didn't even need his super-hearing to listen to her conversation with the man. There was this urge to smash the man's face on the counter when he heard what the man wanted. What kind of a man approaches a woman like that? The next time he heard her voice, however, what she said somehow forced a smile to his face.
Alita watched as the man widened his eyes in surprise as if he didn't expect her answer. She silently hoped he would leave her alone without another word if not, she would gladly pour out her pent-up anger and frustration which had been building up since the early hours of that day, on him.
On second thought, she wished he would say something to provoke her so she could have a good reason to hit him. Now she wanted to fight. She didn't think she could hold the anger in any longer.
Unfortunately, the man only glared at her before silently walking away.
It seems she would have to sleep angry today, she thought as she turned her attention to the glass of liquor in her hand. The drink was not strong enough to intoxicate her, but it was enough to dull the ache in her mind. Since she started taking alcohol, no drink had been able to make her drunk or slightly tipsy.
That was probably part of the reason Kayla stuck to her since she loves to party. Alita made no effort to create any relationship. She was always by herself since that tragic incident and she either scare away or frustrate anyone trying to get close to her.
But Kayla and Brian were like stubborn flies. They were persistent, always coming back no matter how many times she shooed them away. She gradually warmed up to them when they refused to leave her alone.
Bringing the glass to her lips one more time, she gulped down the entire content. Right now, she wanted to be alone. She pulled out some cash from her pocket and dropped it together with the glass on the counter.
Due to the sharp turn she made in her haste to leave the bar, she bumped into a man who was approaching the bar from her right side.
"Easy there, beautiful. Where are you running to?" She heard the man ask in a sweet voice and her eyes moved to his face. He had soft features, almost feminine, brown eyes... Before she could observe further, she realized he is a vampire.
"Sorry." She quickly muttered as another frown formed on her face. She made to leave from there, but the man suddenly moved to block her way again.
"Why the hurry? Come on, let me buy you a drink." The man offered as a bright smile curved on his lips. And that was when Alita recognized him. She had been looking for this person for the past three days and he suddenly shows up in front of her. How fortunate. And here she was thinking she would sleep angry.
A sweet smile curved on Alita's lips, and her countenance changed into one of pure bliss.
"Just a drink? What do you say about spending the night with me huh?" She spouted seductively.
Her words didn't shock only the man before her. Axel almost choked on his drink when he heard what just came out of her mouth. He turned his head sharply to the side. Thankfully, Alita's back was facing him while the man was too engrossed to notice his movement.
Axel couldn't see her face so he moved his gaze to the man in front of her. The look he saw on the man's face was enough to rile him up. His brows slightly furrowed when he recognized who the man is.
What is wrong with this woman? One moment she rejected a man, the next, she is inviting another to spend the night. Not just any man, but a good-for-nothing vampire. His thought process broke when the man spoke again.
"Who am I to refuse when you ask so nicely?" Axel eyed the man with contempt before he turned to face his drink.
"Everything okay? Someone you know?" Asher asked, noticing the frown on Axel's face. His attention had been on the dance floor when he suddenly turned to notice Axel's gaze on a particular couple.
Axel shook his head before answering, "I'm fine." However, Alita's next words rendered him completely shocked and speechless.
