"Are you the patient that fell from the rooftop?" The nurse's eyes narrowed and she was shuddering.
"Yes, I am. Is there something wrong?" The way her demeanor changed, I could tell something definitely went wrong.
"Nothing is wrong, you can go over to the director's office. It's by the left on the eighth floor."
"Why do I need to go there?" I asked. My brows crinkled, and my eyes were probing into hers.
"Nothing is the wrong ma, the director just wants to meet you. It's not every day we see people jumping off the rooftop."
"I didn't jump off the rooftop, who said that?" I yelled at her.
"I'm sorry, but that's what your husband did, that's what he told everyone, even the reporters who were after the hospital CEO."
I looked at her speechless. I tried to speak but I couldn't find the words. Peter turned into a monster since he met Diane.
"I will go to his office."
...
As I walk down the hallway to the hospital director's office. It seems as though everyone's eyes were probing at me. Everywhere I turned their demeanor seemed like they are mocking me. Am I hallucinating?
"Eloise Wright?"
I heard a voice from behind me but I dared not to veer around. Maybe someone recognized me? I loosen the band on my ponytail and let my hair fall effortlessly on my shoulders. As I try to stride forward, I felt a hand grip mine and held it tight.
"Eloise Wright." This time her voice was low.
I slowly turned to look at her. For some reason, she looked really familiar.
"I was the nurse in your room the day you woke up from your coma." She smiled.
"Yeah, I remember. How are you?"
"Perfect. Where are you headed?"
"The director's office," I responded.
"He isn't there Eloise. To see the director you need to fix an appointment. I can help you with that on the third floor. Let's go, or do you have any other thing you need to do?"
"Yes, I need to visit the morgue. I haven't buried my father yet."
"I'm so sorry for your loss. I will be on the third floor, you can ask for nurse Maggie when you are done." She placed her hand on my shoulder and smiled.
...
After cremating my father, I took his ashes to the cemetery and buried him. Sitting in the hot weather, all the words he ever said to me was all I could hear.
I wish I listened.
I saw a pregnant woman walking down the street with a man, they were wearing matching rings, no doubt it might be her husband.
I dip my hand in my bag, looking at the pregnancy report. "Why are they different? Does this really happen?"
At this point, I don't believe I'm pregnant. It might have been a mistake.
"Ultrasound." I smiled as I recalled that ultrasound was the only way I will know finally if I'm pregnant.
I went back to the hospital and asked for nurse Tabitha. She happened to be just available. I was directed to her office, one glance at me, her lips curved into a smile.
"Eloise. I'm glad you are here." She hugged which seemed odd to me. She was being too nice, way too nice.
"I'm here to get an ultrasound done, I got two different pregnancy tests done, but they all read different months, so I'm hoping that an ultrasound will tell me if I'm really pregnant and how many months gone am I."
"Well the ultrasound can tell you are possible due date, but then it might not be accurate in telling how many weeks gone you are. If the two tests are different it might be caused because of many reasons. It's not an issue."
She placed her hand on me and led me to the ward I'm to do the ultrasound. I took a deep breath, if I'm not pregnant for Peter then I'm not pregnant at all, there was really no need to worry. A month, two months, three months it doesn't matter, I'm pregnant for Peter and that's the only thing that matters.
I smiled looking at the machine, I was pregnant.
"I can get a report for the ultrasound right?" I asked the nurse.
"Sure."
That's right, the proof I need to give Peter.
...
Standing in front of the company, I wear a wide smile on my face as I stride toward the door. I've never been this ecstasize for a while.
As soon as I walked into my department, everyone's eyes were fixed on me and then drifted towards Diane.
I ignored and resisted the urge to pull her hair apart. Peter was the head of our team and had his office separated from other staff. Diane was seated with him, there was no way she'd allow me in, hence I needed to wait.
My gaze was fixed on him, and when our eyes meet I'd smile like a fool I am. Amongst other things, I think me and Peter I've come a long way for our relationship to fall apart. I was going to do whatever within my power, to make him see reasons with me and get our marriage back together despite the broken pieces.
He stepped out immediately and I jerked from the chair and ran towards him. Before I could open my lips to speak, Emily snapped at my face and swung me around.
"You must be crazy, I've been watching you. Why won't you get over him?"
"Emily now is not the time," I said to her and quickly grabbed Peter's hand as he was about to walk away.
"Let go." He yelled and everyone's eyes were fixed on us.
"You didn't have to tell at me like that." I felt embarrassed when my gape met Diane, she seemed pleased and undisturbed with my presence with Peter.
"Peter," I called out to him. He walked towards the elevator and I ran towards him and gripped his suit on his wrist.
"I'm really pregnant Peter, I'm pregnant with your child, our child." I was smiling like a fool. Pregnancy was what caused this after all, and now since I'm pregnant, I'm certain he would love it.
"You can't be pregnant Eloise, stop dreaming."
"I seriously am." I took out the report from my bag and showed it to him.
"What? You can't be pregnant for me, if you are pregnant then it's not mine Eloise. We're you trying to pin me down with another man's baby?"
His words made me even confused, first, he said I was barren and now I'm pinning him down with another man's pregnancy.
"What do you mean? I'm telling you I'm pregnant for you, that I'm not barren. Why are you talking about pinning you down with another man's pregnancy?"
I furrowed my brows as my lips parted. Staring into his eyes, for a moment there I could see he was afraid, his lips slightly opened but then he closed them gulping his saliva. Is there a secret I'm not aware of?
"Peter!" I yelled gripping tighter to his suit.
"I don't want to do this here. Let go Eloise."
"I won't until you tell me why you don't believe I'm pregnant for you. You e always taunt me for being barren, now it's not your child? Peter!"
I didn't care if there were probing eyes. My marriage has become a live show months ago when my husband decided to cheat on another staff.
"Because I never ejaculated in you, Eloise. I never wanted a child with you. You aren't pregnant with my child."
"What are you talking about? What is this peter?" I yelled, tears rolling down my cheeks as my heartbeat increased.
"I'm not the father of your child. I can't believe you will get pregnant for someone else to pin me down." He pushed me and I fell to the ground.
My gaze was fixed on him, did he really do all that?
When he bowed towards the elevator, my gaze slowly traveled in that direction. It was the young man at the hospital. I helped myself up and lowered my head for a while, then I dabbed my eyes and looked up he was staring at me, but all in my heart was Peter.
How come he never released his sperm inside me? Was it all just a lie, to torment me even more?
