Chereads / When We Were Married / Chapter 40 - CHAPTER 39

Chapter 40 - CHAPTER 39

I parted ways with Leslie after finishing our cake in that shop. I was pissed because I had to make my driver wait for almost an hour for nothing. I was walking out of the building by myself. I just can't help but curse Leslie in my mind for doing that to me.

I joined her but I didn't get to know anything about that girl whom Zach rejected in the past. About how she was right now. Her status and why she called her a bitch. I was looking forward to know about it but I got nothing.

I was murmuring things when I realized that I didn't actually come with Leslie to know anything about the girl. I came with her because she asked me and I got the hint that something was wrong. She didn't do anything wrong. She didn't make me come with her too I could be able to know something about the girl. I was supposed to stay there and listen to what she was going to say as her friend and since she chose to tell me only that, then I shouldn't be pissed right now.

I realized that I was wrong and walked faster so I could just come home and apologize to my driver for making him wait for me. I was about to reach the door when suddenly,

BLAAGG!

My eyes widened and stepped back when I suddenly hit someone.

No, someone hit me.

I looked up to the lady dressed in a baby pink coat with a white dress inside. She was blonde and she was wearing a little hat on her head just like how I see royalties dress when they attend gatherings with the public. She was wearing white gloves while holding her bag in her right hand. What I notice the most is that she looks like someone I know.

"S-sorry," she was the one who hit me first but I was the one who apologized. She just looked at me and took her sunglasses off. When she took it off, she looked more like him. Especially because of her eyes that look exactly like his as far as I can remember.

"Oh, look who it is," she said. Her voice hinted to me about her attitude and the way she said those words to me, she was acting as if she knew me though I'd never seen her before.

"I'm sorry?"

"Aren't you Xhyrah Jimenez?" she asked me. I was surprised that she even knew my name.

"Do you know me by any chance?" I asked her and stood straight when she started walking closer to me. My eyes widened when she put her face closer to mine as if she was scanning my face making sure that I was the right person. I stepped back when I felt comfortable and she just smirked at me.

Rude.

"You don't know me?" she asked me as she flip her blonde hair backward.

"I'm sorry but I don't,"

I was pissed by how she was acting in front of me. She just moved her face closer to me just like that and is asking me obvious questions. The way she speaks to me is just rude and all I want right now is to leave the place and get my ass away from her.

"I need to go, goodbye," I said and left her without listening to the other words that she said while I was walking my way out of the building.

I don't know how and where she got my name or how she even knew me, I don't remember meeting a person like her. This was the first time that I saw someone who looked exactly like my Dad. If I have met her before I should've recalled it earlier but I didn't.

I don't know what she was up to. She didn't even apologize after hitting me.

I went to my car after that and apologized to my driver before we drove back home.

While I was on my way home, I forgot to ask Leslie if she knew what had happened in the office after that. Well, I guess I should ask her about it tomorrow.

The next day, I didn't expect that I'd get to meet Zach in the morning. I came to work earlier than usual for no particular reason and saw him walking behind me while I walk towards the elevator.

I noticed that he walked a little faster so he could catch up to me. I looked around to see if someone could see us walking together but saw no one behind us. "Good morning, Sir," I greeted him just like how I practice it every night.

I find myself getting embarrassed by calling him 'sir' so I thought about practicing it so I wouldn't feel anything anymore. I pressed the elevator after greeting him thinking that I can get away after calling him that but he entered the same elevator that I was riding.

"Don't call me that when we're alone," he told me. I expected him to react that way.

"I wanted to make sure no one finds out about anything," I said without looking at him.

He didn't say anything about it and stayed quiet as the elevator starts to go up. "You should've told me when you moved the urn to the memorial," he started talking a few seconds later.

It was because I didn't want to come near you.

I noticed that the feeling of uncomfortableness and awkwardness disappear. The feeling that I felt during our meeting after those 2 years without seeing each other somehow disappeared and I could barely even stutter when I talk to him right now.

"You were busy," I answered him.

"I will never be busy with things like that," he said. Now that he said it, I remember him giving me the time I needed when we were married. He never made me feel like he didn't have time to spare with me. He always manages to give me the attention that I want.

But that wasn't the real reason why I didn't tell him about moving the baby's remains to a memorial. I was lying when I told him I didn't call him because he was busy so I don't have to recall things from the past.

It was true that he was busy at that time though. he was talking to someone.

I didn't say anything because I didn't know what to tell him. Gladly, the doors opened and I walked out of the elevator. "Bye," was the last thing that I said before going out and walking straight towards the office.

"You okay? You were walking pretty fast," Carol told me when I got into the office and didn't manage to stop myself from walking fast even after I entered the office.

"Yeah," I said and sat on my chair.

Now, I remember when the meeting is going to be scheduled. I don't know if Leslie's secretary was back already or if I should I still come with her. But asking Leslie if she knew what happened after that would make her ask me why I was asking. I have to come up with an excuse before asking her.

Lunchtime came and I still didn't get to ask Leslie about it because I didn't have time. We were working on another animated advertisement and we didn't get to leave the meeting room the whole time so I didn't get to come to Leslie's office.

Lydia, Caol, Terrence, and 2 other workmates including myself went to the first floor to grab a bite to eat. I recommended going to that small cakeshop some other time while we were walking towards the cafeteria and they said 'yes' to me.

I was walking in a group when suddenly,

BLAAGGG

If Terrence didn't catch me on time, I would've found myself on the floor. My eyes widened and looked at the person who seemed to have purposely ran toward me. "What is wrong with you?" I asked her. She was the same person yesterday. I looked at her and she was dressed just like the way she was yesterday.

And there's that annoying look on her face again. After what he has done, looking at her face was enough for me to get annoyed with her.

"Oh my God, what happened?" I heard Lydia say when she heard the sound of me crashing onto another person. My wallet was thrown on the floor too.

"Are you okay?" Terrence asked me and helped me get back on my knees.

"What is wrong with you?!" I asked her again. Just like the last time, she didn't even bother to apologize.

"Oops, sorry," she said.

It annoyed the hell out of me.

"If you have any issues with me, just tell me. Stop pushing yourself to me all of a sudden," I told her. Based on how she was dressed and the fact that she doesn't have a company ID, she must not work in this building. Then what is she doing here crashing on employees of this building?

"No, it was a mistake," she didn't even take the effort of changing her expression so we would believe her lies more.

"What are you doing here?" Carol stepped in and asked her.

"You could've just apologized, Lady," I heard Lydia say,

The look on her face when my friends stepped in made me even madder,,

"You've done this yesterday too," I told her, "What is wrong with you?"

"It was just a mistake, why are you so worked up?" she asked me as if it was nothing when I almost got myself on the ground if no one was behind me.

"Then apologize," Lydia told her.

I saw her lift her left eyebrow with what Lydia said. She smirked and slowly walked toward me. I saw how she scoffed as she walked toward me. I didn't expect her to put her hand on my shoulder. "You should've been the one to apologize," I heard her whisper.

It was a whisper and if she didn't purposely lean closer to me, I wouldn't have heard it. if she didn't mean to make me hear it, she wouldn't have leaned closer.

"What do you mean?" I asked her. I looked up to her because she was taller than me. Just by looking at her, I can already say that she was someone older.

"Ask your brother about me," she whispered and leaned away. She pats my shoulder and looked at my face. I don't know what was on her mind while she was doing that but it made me very scared for a moment. Just by looking at her eyes, I can assume that she wanted to hurt me.

How did she know that I had a brother? What does she mean by asking my brother about her? Does Ali know about her?

Could she be, that someone Ali has been keeping from me all the time?

"Who are you?" I asked her. Just by what she said, I can already feel something bad about it.

"Your sister perhaps?" she whispered.

What she said alone made me feel like I was hit by something. I was left there. I was shocked even though I knew it was impossible to happen.

A sister? How could she say so?

"Xhyrah? Are you okay?" Lydia came to me and held onto my shoulder.

I couldn't even move for a moment because what she just said too over my mind and my body. No, it was impossible. She was older. There's no way I have another sister.

It was only me and Ali. We were along as siblings. There is no way.

Why does she act that way? And she doesn't even look like a good person.

"Xhyrah?" Lydia called me again. that is when I got back to my senses. My eyes widened as I look at the people around me. they all look worried about what happened to me.

"I-I'm sorry, go take your lunch first, I need to do something," I said and removed Lydia's hand off my shoulder and went to look for the lady to ask her what she was talking about.

There is no way.

I looked around the lobby and everywhere on the first floor. I walked the whole floor but still couldn't catch a glimpse of her. She must've left the building already. I walked towards the entrance to see if I could still catch her outside but she wasn't there anymore.

She was nowhere to be found.

I walked back into the building while I dial Ali's number with shaking hands. There is no way.

But how did she know about the secret that Ali was keeping from me?

How did she know me? How did she know Ali?

Did she come here to purposely mess up my mind?

"H-hey," Ali answered the call.

"Hey, someone just--" I stopped and sighed. I entered the comfort room and locked myself in a cubicle before asking him. "Someone came to me," I told him.

"Where are you right now?" I noticed that his question was out of the topic. Right from then, I am starting to doubt that what the lady said wasn't all true.

"She said she was my sister, what does that mean, Ali?" I asked him straight to the point so he wouldn't have to change the topic and ask other questions.

I heard him sigh from the other end of the call.

"Come home, we'll talk about it right here," he said calmly.

"Just tell me if it was true or not, Ali,"

"Come home--"

"Just answer the damn question or I am going to hang up the call and never talk to you again," I told him. I was breathing heavily after saying that. The other side went silent for a few minutes and then,

"It's true,"
