"First, I will try to make him understand how good he makes me feel just by being there. Second, I will have to show him how sincere and genuine I am when I say that I want to be with him. Third, I need to let him know that he could be the only one for me. Fourth, that I could be the woman he needs in his life and fifth, that all I want right now is to be with him." Alex explained to her friend with a smile on her lips. She looked happy just thinking about him and Sandra could only return her smile as she was happy for her friend.
Sandra had been friends with Iris since they were in high school. She saw her change little by little, as she grew up. She knew how much she had sacrificed and how much effort she had put in to become who she was now. When her grandfather was alive, Iris was the brightest person she had ever known, despite all the problems she had! But since the old man had died, the light in her eyes had slowly faded. So when she saw that the young waiter could bring back that light into her friend's eyes, she decided to do everything in her power to help them.
The day ended with the two women going shopping to help Iris lighten her mood and forget Joshua's rejection a little. They had a good day trolling around the city center and spending money on pastries while thinking about how Iris should win Joshua's heart.
After that day, Joshua and Iris did not have much to do with each other. A whole month passed and they still didn't see each other either coincidentally or on purpose. Iris didn't want to pressure him by showing up again at his work but she still texted him from time to time.
Joshua was not very responsive, so Iris did not force him and gave him his space. She wanted him to understand that she respected his decisions and was not one of those people who only see their own feelings without considering the feelings of others.
Joshua was a little worried when he received Iris' first text message. Even though it was not much, just a greeting, he felt a little burdened. He did his best to forget that night, to forget her proposal, to forget the disappointment he had caused in her eyes, to forget her beautiful voice, her sweet smile, the gorgeous scent of her hair, and her perfect body! Since that night, he knew that he was very attracted to her. His weak heart missed her from time to time, and at night when he was working at the cafe, he would sometimes look absent-mindedly at the door, thinking she would come through it the next minute.
Every day he had to push all these thoughts away and do his best to forget about Iris and her proposal. So the fact that she didn't talk about it when she texted him was something he appreciated.
Not wanting to give her false hopes, he did not answer her with enthusiasm and was even cold! Even though after the third text message he started waiting for her messages every night and found himself staring frowningly at his phone the day she didn't get back to him! But he had a strong will and was determined not to succumb to her, thus he never started the conversation.
But what was to become of his efforts when he received a call from the General Hospital asking him to come because Iris was hospitalized. Well, nothing!
He did not even take a little time to think and raced to the hospital, even taking a cab, when he was someone who did everything, to save money. His heart and head were in turmoil thinking about what could have happened to her and praying it wasn't something serious. His head was bleary and his hands were shaking as he thought of her in the hospital alone! At that moment Joshua realized that Iris might already take a great place in his heart!
It was not until he reached the hospital that he began to believe that something was wrong! Why should he be the one called when Iris was sick, when they had no relationship! Why would anyone call him? He stopped in front of the hospital and wondered if he should go in or not. But his heart was so restless that he had to see what was going on. A few minutes later, he was already in Iris' room, looking at her asleep and completely exhausted with a deep frown on her face.
For the reason that he was already there, Joshua decided to wait until she woke up. Even though he already knew that she did not have anything really serious, she was just malnourished and exhausted, he couldn't stop worrying.
When Iris finally woke up, she was surprised to see Joshua sitting on the sofa in her room, looking at her intently. At first she thought she was still dazed because she lacked strength, but when she blinked, all she saw was that the handsome man was still there!
"What are you doing here?" she asked with a deep smile as she let the nurse pull out her IV.
"Your boyfriend has been waiting for you to wake up for almost 2 hours, he was so worried when he came! I wish my boyfriend would worry about me like that..." The nurse smiled and thought the two were just too cute together.
Iris looked at Joshua, who was trying hard to suppress his embarrassment, and smiled sweetly. "Oh really? That surprises me..." Iris thanked the nurse, who giggled and looked at Joshua before leaving.
"I got a call from the hospital..." Joshua answered Iris' question as he helped her stand up, still with a deep frown on his face.
Iris already knew who had orchestrated their little encounter and could only smile at the thought that Sandra had seriously planned it all. About three hours ago, she had felt she had no strength left and had rushed to the hospital. She had had to call Sandra to let her know, just in case a caregiver was needed! And now she had sent Joshua! Iris only hoped she had not messed up his schedule...
"I am sorry for taking up your time! I hope I did not disturb you..."
"How did your friend get my number?" Joshua interrupted as he helped her leave the hospital, his lips pressed together and still frowning.
At that moment, Iris suspected he was going to leave her standing outside the hospital and walked away, but to his surprise, he asked for her car keys. Iris thanked her secretary for putting the car keys in her pocket and thought she would give him a raise!
They both sat in the car in silence. It was the second time he drove Iris home, and the two times it was because she was sick. Iris felt more energetic and had a sweet smile on her face because she was happy to see Joshua, but the young man ignored her and drove on with a somber and sullen look.
Iris wanted to explain why her friend had his number and thought that was why Joshua was angry. "My friend was just worried that I liked you, so..."
"So she's investigating me?" replied Joshua coldly, not even looking at her.
"She stole your number on my phone... Sorry."
Joshua just nodded and did not say anything after that.
Iris could only sigh as she looked at the handsome profile of the man she had fallen in love with and thought of how hard it was to have a sweet moment with him!
The first time she enjoyed the ride, Joshua was clearly disturbed by her closeness and you could read in his face how hard he was fighting not to fall in love with Iris' bright eyes. His hands were cramped on the steering wheel and he glanced here and there at Iris to see if she was okay, while doing his best not to touch her.
But on this day, it was not like that anymore. There was a cold atmosphere in the car that made Iris feel a little uncomfortable. She could see that Joshua was not in a good mood, his eyes were grim and he had been clenching his jaw throughout the ride. He did not say a single word even when they reached Iris' house.
What was his problem?
