After gaining back five more points of life force, I used the rest of Steward's and my Ki to prepare my attack. Seeing as my body could only handle ten points of Ki in total, I was forced to use the rest to seal up the wound. Which I'm not complaining about.
"I'm ready." My voice came out far more confident than I intended because, in all honesty, I wasn't sure if this technique would even damage it. But I had to try something, after all, it was targeting me and the instructors didn't seem to care about the problem at hand even though they must have come to the same conclusion.
"Traitors", I mumbled under my breath before standing up and taking my stance."Lure it this way!" I shouted over to the group containing the archers.
Though it was unnecessary as the beast came flying towards me when I was in view. As the bird-like creature grew closer I could make out the small patches of scales on its body. Most likely from its wyvern lineage.
Before I knew it the beast was already upon me this speed was unbelievable, seeing as without its wind affinity it only had three points in agility! And it's already at my level if not higher than my level of agility.
As we finally had the chance to meet face to face calmly I raised my sword, gripping it with both hands. While I'm powering Ki into my wrists and then more of the muscles that lead heavily to my strength output before striking.
SLASH!
With one attack I was already exhausted however to my horror it wasn't enough. I had only removed its beak, which resulted in its climbing rage. Though it didn't stop its charge and before I knew it I rescued another notification as my body moved on command.
[⅗! Dodges remaining!]
'I've escaped death twice thanks to you System, I think that earns you a name other than system.' I thought while chuckling out loud as the bird crashed into the ground and Ymir's team each took turns empowering a single arrow with Ki as her brother charged into battle with his sword and shield in hand.
Then two other familiar faces followed him into battle soon forming a triangular formation, the two were none other than Patricia and Steward.
"Ha, having allies sure is nice and all, but let's not grow complacent. Its sights are still on me after all." I said to myself trying to overpower my exhaustion and move my feet.
It was then that I had come to feel such a new feeling that wanted to make you just stand there and wallow in pity knowing that you would have the power to be the thing in front of you. This monster was giving off a vibe coated in pure malice, as its eyes stared deeper into my soul I fell to my knees feeling a strange power weigh me down.
"What's…this..feeling?"
[The Sorrow Bird has unleashed the full brunt of its killing intent, as a Wendigo all the host must due is transform into their true form to negate the poor effects.]
"There's nothing poor about this weight on my shoulders, is this fear?" I asked while I kept stumbling to get up. I was somewhat becoming used to this pressure rather quickly.
Then I finally stood until my body jerked to the left just in time for me to see the Sorrow Bird's body fly straight past me into the area wall.
BAM!
[⅖ Dodges remaining!]
'This feeling is the same as that the Numbers gave off only several levels weaker.' This very thought made a shiver go down my spine. 'Just how strong are the numbers?'
[…]
For the first time since upgrading the system, it had no reply, this very fact had stunned me enough for the Sorrow Bird to recover and come flying right toward me.
[⅕ Dodges left!]
As the notification came in and my body flattened to the ground avoiding the beast entirely, once I got up I slapped myself so hard I think I heard a cracking sound.
"Snap out of it!" My voice resounded across the entire area even though it was meant for myself. The rest of the teams that had and hadn't even engaged in battle were trying to struggle to their feet, but in the end, no one succeeded.
'Like always teams can only take you so far, individual strength is all that matters.' I thought before using the Ki in my body to push off my left foot sending me flying toward the beasts.
Then suddenly it's method of attack had changed and it began firing out compressed blasts of wind. With my agility stat at a total of 23 and training with my nunchucks for so long it was easy enough for me to dodge the blasts. While running along the ground I noticed that when it shifted its wind affinity to being more external than internal It was far slower.
Using this knowledge I forced the last amount of Ki I would be able to form into my legs shooting up in front of the Sorrow Bird's face before activating the inscriptions on my sword which made its blade's edge blaze before trying to thrust it into its skull leaving my body wide open.
But…
[0/5 Dodges, none remaining!]
It wasn't done putting up a fight just yet and that dodge had given me more momentum to put towards my strike which was what I did before slicing through its feathers and scales like meat. Sending its head flying off towards Klaus and Janice as if like a statement of unamusement with the last trial.
As my body rode the lifeless Sorrow Bird's to the ground, a wide smile was plastered across my face and I had one last thought before passing out from overexertion.
"Today was fun."
BAM!
