Chapter 20 - Kind-hearted but Naive

"Saya! Theron! Be ready!" Hugh shouted as he got back on his feet and jumped back to distance himself from the earth wall that was on the verge of collapse due to no support being provided to it.

After reaching five metres behind the wall, Hugh again got on one knee and put his palms on the ground and closed his eyes. The only difference from before were the veins bulging on his forehead.

—Crack–Boom

In the next second, the wall was blasted apart by the deers at the front and they all rushed towards the black haired teenager who had his eyes closed at the moment.

But before they could reach him, their feet started sinking into the ground that had suddenly become so soft that it buckled under their weight.

Suddenly, a brown coloured circle appeared below Hugh's palms. The circle was barely three feet in diameter, but there were three smaller circles neatly revolving in the bigger one. The smaller circles had different patterns drawn inside them.

Anyone looking at it would notice that the construct was resonating with the ground below, and they might not be far off with this assumption of theirs!

At that instant, the black haired teenager opened his eyes and smirked, as a glint shone in his eyes.

"Now!!" Hugh shouted, as another wall appeared right in front of him, but unlike the first one, this one was V-shaped, with the open end facing all 41 deers who were struggling to move toward him.

Answering his call, a beautiful pink circle appeared in the air above the leftover herd. This circle was bigger than the earlier one and had four smaller circles revolving inside it. Suddenly, the construct disintegrated into pink particles and formed a miniature rose in the air above the herd.

On the field, the flower resembling a rose was pink from top to bottom, but what made it special was that it was emitting immense heat, making deers try to move away from it, but to their dismay, the pink flower started blooming.

"Fiery rose." Saya muttered from a distance, witnessing the commotion while leaning weakly on a tree, seemingly bereft of any strength. Soon, she brought out a fancy glass vial with a golden design inscribed on its bottom, filled with light blue liquid. She uncorked the vial and gulped the contents down in a single swing.

Soon, one petal opened, followed by a second. As the petals were opening, the beautiful rose started rising up high in the air.

When the flower reached an optimal height, it stopped and bloomed in its full glory. At that moment, it descended down on the ground as if released from a bowstring.

—Boom!

Just as it touched the ground in the middle of the deers, an explosion went off in the form of the flower expanding into a huge sphere of flames that enveloped the seven deers that were in its reach.

Others weren't spared as someone's leg was gone, someone's antlers and even one of the deer's head was eaten up by the blob of pink flames.

"Wind slash!" Venus said in her child-like voice. And as the word left her mouth, a pair of semi-visible blades appeared in front of her in an 'X' and shot towards the ball of pink flames while making the sound of air being torn apart.

Just as the wind blades touched the ball, the ball popped as if it were a pink balloon!

—Shrieriekkk!!

The deers shrieked and ran in random directions as the flames fell on them like rain, causing some to bump into themselves, and hence entangling their antlers, while some bumped into the wall.

While all of this was happening, Venus raised her thin arms holding the two short-swords, making them meet blade to blade, above her head. As she did that, a 3-feet-wide blue circle appeared in front of her, with similar but different

"Sweeping Gust." Venus mumbled lightly, as she brought down her two trusted partners, making a two metre tall translucent, scythe-like-blade shoot forward while spinning horizontally.

Its speed was so great that the deer's tough skin and bones didn't even pose any resistance, and it cut through 6 of them, before dissipating.

Just like Saya, Venus also brought out a similar glass vial from the pouch hanging on her waist and drank its contents.

"I'm ready!" Theron shouted from the shade of trees, raising a bronze spear with some weird patterns on its head, while red tendrils of electricity snaked around it.

""Shoot it!"" All three exhausted teenagers shouted in unison.

"Here it goes," He said and pulled back the arm carrying the spear, and aimed it towards the battlefield.

Soon enough, a red circle appeared in front of the blonde teenager, but unlike all the earlier ones, this one was at least 5-feet in diameter, with six smaller circles revolving inside it, with one another circle being at the centre of it.

When he felt that the trajectory was right, he threw the spear with all his might, the spear left his grasp and flew straight through the smaller circle at the centre of the bigger one,

The spear shot towards the field, making an arc in the air and directly penetrating the head of a deer, immediately dropping it dead.

—Tzz–Zz–Tzz

Out of the spear handle, three red snake-like tendrils zapped out in three different directions, hitting a deer and leaving it half-dead burnt condition.

It didn't end there, as three light red tendrils of smaller size shot out of each of the three deers left half-dead, hitting another nine deers, but this time only making them drop down to the ground, unable to move.

Bringing the total count of deers incapacitated by the lightning spear and fiery rose to 21. While the total death count was at 20, making the incapacitated ones be the only ones alive.

"Oof that was tiring." Saya complained as she arrived at the scene, but the smile on her face was enough to tell that she was satisfied with the result.

"You only castec a single spell though." Hugh added with a tired smile, as he himself fished a similar glass vial and drank its contents after twirling it a bit.

—Splatt

"Let's finish them off now," Theron said as he removed his spear from the head of one deer and thrust it into the other.

Everyone nodded and in a few moments, everyone was done finishing every deer that they managed to keep from fleeing.

Suddenly, Venus raised her head and gazed in a certain direction as one of her eyes shone slightly.

"What's wrong, Vee?" Hugh asked, sounding concerned.

"Nothing. I'll be back in a bit, bro." She said and took off running, leaving a confused Hugh, who immediately tried to chase when he realised she was leaving the clearing, alone.

"Vee!" Hugh shouted, but before he could move any further, he realised a certain man in fancy red robes had suddenly appeared out of nowhere, and held his hand.

"But my sist–!"

"Don't worry, she'll be fine," He said as he tossed the apple core into the lake.

'What a kind-hearted but naive girl.' He mused to himself with a smile.
