"But..." she started, her voice wavering, then stopped, as if unsure whether to continue.
"What is it?" Magnar asked, sensing her hesitation. His heart clenched at the thought of another obstacle. Right now, all he wanted was to clear every doubt, and every fear, and finally be with her.
"We still can't be together," she finally said, her voice breaking as she buried her head into his chest, her words throwing him into a frenzied state.
"Why?" he asked, shock and confusion lacing his tone. He gently pulled her back to look into her eyes, desperate to understand.
"We are poles apart," she whispered, unburying her head from his embrace, her eyes filled with a mixture of sorrow and resignation. "I am divorced once, Magnar and I have an ailing father to care for. Our statuses... they're different. You're a successful, powerful man, and I'm just... me."
