This time, Heather was able to go home earlier than yesterday, the sun has not yet set.
When she opened the door, what welcomed her was Amanda sitting in the couch with elegance overflowing from her.
A tea was served in the coffee table in front of her with steam still coming from it.
It doesn't seem like she had been here for long.
A maid was also standing beside her ready to wait on her.
Heather couldn't help but smirk, she was already expecting this.
That Amanda will return at a time where Cyrus was not present at all. After all, she was still keeping the act of wanting her as the daughter in law in front of her son who wanted nothing more but to divorce this person.
Since she still haven't found a suitable person to become Cyrus' next wife, she couldn't have them divorce, lest Cyrus look for Susan and marry her without Amanda's permission.
It was one of the few things that Cyrus would do in contrast to what his mother wants.
"It's the wicked witch, here to bully cinderella?"
Amanda was agape, what kind of introduction was this?
The smile on Heather's lips wavered after a few seconds of her speaking of such words.
Then she muttered, "Oh no, I think that does not match. Was there a witch in cinderella?"
She tilted her head to the side, thinking deeply.
Amanda, on the other hand, was gritting her teeth in anger while Heather contemplated on the story of cinderella if there was a witch in the story.
Heather had just openly mocked her, not just with her tone but even with her words.
She openly called Amanda a witch, turning even the maid on the side pale at the fear that Amanda would suddenly lash out.
But Heather knew better.
"If I had known mother that you would be coming back, I would have come home earlier," she said approaching Amanda with a sweet smile.
And it didn't escape her eyes the way Amanda's grip on her cup tightened upon her mention of the word, mother.
'Oh as much as you hate it, the more I will speak of it,' Heather thought sitting down beside Amanda like the good daughter she was.
"Is tea enough, mother? Should I cook something for you? You have not tried my cooking yet, right? I can confidently say that I am already on par with aunt Amelia when it comes to cooking."
Her gray eyes twinkling in excitement as she blinked them as if she really wanted to cook for Amanda.
Amelia wasn't an expert chef but her cooking was comparable to one who had work in a restaurant for years.
"Enough," Amanda irritatedly cut her off.
"Oh, are we done with acting like a pair of mother and daughter that is in perfect harmony?"
The twinkling of her eyes disappeared and a mysterious smile appeared on her lips.
She knew why Amanda was here, she knew Amanda wanted to see the changes in her and to understand what was going on.
After all, she had been quiet for a year yet suddenly she up and go and changed into someone who was in complete contrast to the character she had been playing for a year.
She stood up from beside Amanda before sitting opposite her.
"You should have said so from the beginning. I thought as long as someone else is here, you would want me to act like someone who loves her mother-in-law dearly."
The maid on the side glanced at her.
She was not here in the morning but she did hear from the driver that the madam was angered by the young master's wife. The driver didn't know what they talked about but that from a distance he saw that the young master's wife's look has changed a lot.
When she saw her enter a while ago, admittedly she was stunned in her place.
The change was drastic.
Gone was the demure elegant lady who speaks softly and acts gently.
The one in front of her was a woman who couldn't be called brass but couldn't be called gentle either.
She seemed to be outspoken as well.
What's more was the fact that she was answering the madam without any fear.
It was the complete contrast of the person who wants to get in the madam's good graces just so she could stay.
Right now, the maid even turned pale because of the aura that was surrounding the madam.
It had turned colder due to the words that the young master's wife, had been spouting since she arrived.
Seeing the reaction of the maid, Heather smirked in her mind.
This little amount of taunting is nothing, yet this one was already in fear. Just how powerful is Amanda in their minds?
"Do you believe that with this attitude of yours, I will have Cyrus divorce you?" Amanda squinted her eyes, obviously in anger.
Heather laughed, "No you won't."
"How can you be so confident?"
"Because you haven't found a very suitable person that is up to your taste. His heart was quite strong, don't you think so?"
Heather's sentence was short but it contained both of Amanda's current concern.
There are a lot of rich ladies out there but their riches couldn't be compared to Porter.
That was the first reason.
The second being the fact that, she can't wantonly ask others if they want to marry her son, when she showed so much support towards Heather at the beginning.
Being the saint who acts amicable in public is surely very difficult.
Heather would sympathize with her, but she wouldn't. Amanda is currently reaping what she sowed.
And Heather's statement also indicate Amanda's real reason why she can't have divorce between Heather and Cyrus. Cyrus' heart was strong, strong enough to defy his mother regarding the woman he loves.
If without the shackle of being a married man, with his enough respect towards this union despite having the hatred about it. And his respect towards his mother who raised him, Cyrus would have long thrown it away.
If one of these two shackles is gone, then surely he would defy his mother right there and then.
"If I am out of the picture, then surely he and Susan will be together forever. And they lived happily ever after."
Heather even clapped her hands with a laugh.
"Isn't that the reason that despite finding out that I am still a disowned young lady, you didn't suggest divorce? Because I am currently his shackle?"
Heather leaned forward with a playful smile tugging at her lips, "Didn't you like my acting? Being submissive towards you?"
Amanda's brows twitched, this character is surely out of her expectation.
After Heather was publicly announced to be disowned, she disappeared from the lime light and lived her life in a simple way.
That is why Amanda has no information about how she really acts.
"But alas, all stories has an end and so all acts has its own stop. One year is enough for me, how about you? You still want to continue? I have high talent fee though," she added.
Amanda squinted her eyes at Heather, she couldn't keep up with this.
Heather doesn't seem like she wanted divorce but she shows that she will stop following her, even going against her.
What was her purpose?
"You must be thinking, why am I doing this?"
Heather leaned back on the chair.
"Nothing special though, I am just bored. I can keep up with you the same way I can keep up with him. I wonder who amongst us will get tired first? You who'd rather he divorce me and be single without another person to replace me. And Susan coming in the picture? Him, getting tired of hating me and will come into a truce in our living environment? Or me, getting out of my boredom and simply wanting to look for another entertainment? Who do you think?"
Amanda stared at the person in front of her.
Heather doesn't seem like she was someone who'd play such a game.
A game where their time is what was at stake.
In a world where living has turned fast paced, time is a precious thing.
At this moment, Heather does not mind the time that was precious to the rest.
Amanda fell into deep thought.
Will she just pull another person to be with her son?
But no, all those women couldn't keep up.
They are not enough.
But then, will she be able to keep up with this new person in front of her?
She squinted her eyes at Heather, Heather smiled in return.
As if she would tell this witch what her real plan is.
With her being a new person in front of them , throwing them off their games, any reason she could come up with will become a true reason for her.
"I already told you, I am capable enough. I can make a living in my own. I can do many things that despite having the power, I am pretty sure you won't be able to pull me down and tie me up. So me being like this without going against you as if I am after your life, is your best choice at the moment. You just have to keep up with my attitude though, until that is, you find the right person who would be able to stand beside him."
Amanda knew Heather was seriously challenging her.
Her patience or the future path of the rise of Porter Family.
At this moment, Amanda regretted it so much.
Pulling Heather into that act just so Cyrus would marry her.
If she had known that the meek person who agreed to everything she said would turn out like this in a year, she wouldn't have done things hastily.
The excitement of knowing that she could connect with another strong family drove her to rush things when she should have checked on things before taking a step, caused this headache right in front of her.
There are more families out there, and they also have their own daughters but she deemed them either unworthy or too much to handle.
Now, it seems that her best choice then so that Cyrus would not marry that poor woman ended up being a part of the second category of the woman she found for her son.
"So will you kick me out now? Or will you leave me be for the time being?" Heather gave her another question.
