Chereads / The Godly Sphere / Chapter 11 - The Duel

Chapter 11 - The Duel

Kyther saw people running towards the way Tyler had gone. "Hey, there is a duel going on," A man said and ran towards the bar with others.

"Duel?" Kyther got curious and moved towards the duel as well.

Joseph was returning from his quest for information and noticed people running somewhere. He stopped a man and asked, "What is happening here? Where is everyone going?"

"There is a fight between two people. There will be a duel. Come with me if you want." The man ran away.

"Duel? Sounds interesting." Joseph thought he would relax a bit while watching a duel. He too moved with the people in the direction they were going to.

"Wait, wait, I do not want to fight you," Tyler insisted.

"Are you scared?" Jordan looked at Rebecca. "Do you like a coward?"

When Tyler heard the word 'coward', it triggered him. The warriors of Rakhtar considered it as an abuse. "Leave my arm," He said to Rebecca calmly. "I accept his challenge."

Rebecca left his arm, but it surprised her he would agree for something like that. Tyler stepped forward and pulled out his daggers. "I wanted to sort it out peacefully, but you insisted to this, so…" Tyler spoke.

"There is no peace until you are in front of me," Jordan responded and jumped at Tyler with a vertical swing.

Tyler stepped aside, evaded the attack and swung his dagger to slice his belly, but Jordan jumped back and dodged it.

"So, you do have some fight in you." Jordan began to throw continuous stabs, but Tyler dodged them all. Jordan thought he had found an opening when the edge of his blade was too close to Tyler's waist. He turned his blade in the mid of his stab and swung to give him a wound, but Tyler side-flipped and completely amazed the people surrounding them.

"What is happening here?" Kyther thought as he arrived. He saw people surrounding the scene. He somehow went past the crowd to have a clear look and got shocked to see Tyler having a duel with some noble-looking person. "Tyler!? What the heck!?" He could not understand how he got into this situation.

Joseph too arrived until now. He too was curious about the duel, so he went past the crowd as well to have a clear look, and also have some entertainment. Who would care about some random people having a bout?

"Tyler!?" He too was shocked to see Tyler there. "Wait, why is he…" His entertainment turned into a shocking moment. He looked at his opponent. "Who is that guy with the sword?" He asked the person beside him.

"He is Jordan Adamos, the governor's about-to-be son-in-law," The person replied.

"Why are they having a fight?" Joseph asked again.

"It is to show who is worthy for Princess Rebecca."

Joseph was too confused at the response. "What? Who is Princess Rebecca? What the hell is happening?"

The person scanned him up to down. "Are you new here?"

"Yeah, I am. I am a trader and it is my first time to this city." Joseph answered with an awkward smile. "Can you tell me everything from the beginning?"

"I do not know much. Today was Princess Rebecca's wedding to Jordan Adamos. She is the governor's daughter. Apparently, she did not like Jordan and stated that she liked the other guy. What was his name…" He rolled his eyes and tried to remember the name. "… it was Tyler, I think."

Joseph was perplexed. "Tyler and the governor's daughter?" He looked at Tyler dodging Jordan's attacks.

"Yeah, Jordan challenged him to a duel, and the guy accepted it. Rest is as you are watching…" The person said.

It was not a good position for Joseph, but he could not watch a Rakhtar warrior losing to someone. It was a matter of pride. He stepped to the front and cheered for Tyler. He would get an explanation from Tyler later. "Come on, Tyler! You have got this!"

The surrounding people got confused seeing a man cheering for an unknown person in the presence of a noble. But the situation was even worse; the noble was against the unknown person. They wondered if he was an idiot.

Tyler listened to Joseph's voice and turned to look at him. "Joseph…" He muttered when he saw Joseph signaling him to defeat Jordan.

While Tyler was distracted, Jordan swung his sword and made a shallow cut on his arm. "Ah!" He winced and jumped away.

"The next will be your neck," Jason said. Tyler took his stance and held his daggers firmly.

"You have got this, Tyler! Don't get distracted!" Joseph shouted.

"You are the one distracting me," Tyler mouthed while he watched Jordan's movements. "But I know I have got this." He blocked Jordan's horizontal swing to his neck with his dagger and kicked him to his chest.

Before Jordan could balance himself, Tyler gave a roundhouse kick to his head. He hit the ground and at the very moment, Tyler stepped on his sword, making him unable to lift it.

"Damn it," Jordan cursed before receiving a kick to the face. He was down for good.

"Who were you calling a coward, huh?" Tyler put back his daggers. "You have brought this shame upon yourself." He looked down on him, the look Jordan would never forget.

Suddenly, he received a blow to his head from behind. A soldier had hit him. "Ah!" He held his head and dropped to his knees. The other soldiers surrounded and pointed their weapons at him.

"Tyler!" Joseph pulled out his blade, ran, and stood beside him. Kyther too joined him.

Jordan stood up while holding his nose. He was furious at the humiliation he faced in front of the commoners. "Are you his accomplices?" He asked Joseph and Kyther.

"We are his friends," Joseph replied.

"You will face the same fate as him." He raised his hand and was about to order his soldiers to kill them, but someone noticed the princess was gone.

"Look, the princess is not here!" A man from the crowd pointed out.

"What?" Jordan saw she really was not there. "Where is she!?" He shouted as it infuriated him.

Meanwhile, the princess was running away with a grin on her face. "Idiots. As if I would like that commoner." When she turned into an alley, her feet stopped all of a sudden as someone blocked her way.

"You can not escape, my lady." It was Niko. "All the exits have been sealed."

"Leave my way! You psycho researcher," She said as many soldiers came and surrounded her. "Damn it."

She suddenly heard her father's voice from somewhere behind Niko. "You should not have done this, Rebecca." The soldiers parted and made a way for him to come forward. "Now, come with me. The guests are waiting."

"No!" She tried to run away again, but the soldiers blocked her way from other side too. She realized there was no way to escape now.

Jordan had ordered a few of his soldiers to search for Rebecca while he was getting ready to cut the heads of Tyler and his friends. "Soldiers, kill them!"

The soldiers attacked them with pikes and blades. They blocked and dodged the attacks together. They engaged with the soldiers separately while watching the backs of each other.

Joseph punched a soldier and kicked another one, but a pike wounded his leg. "Ah!" He moaned and sat on his knee.

Kyther too smashed them. He slammed them against the ground, but he let his guard down when he saw Joseph receiving a wound to his leg. "Joseph!" At the very moment, a soldier cut his back. "Ah!" He turned and knocked out the soldier with a single punch. He again received a cut, now at his thigh.

Tyler alone defended them for a while, but the soldiers were too many. They were completely surrounded. "It seems like this is the end," Tyler said while panting.

Joseph was not ready to accept it. He gritted his teeth. "Damn it…" It was too much of a pity and a shame that he could not take his vengeance. He could not save Mogu.

"I am sorry, Joseph… Kyther… I brought this upon you," Tyler added as he dropped his daggers and raised his hands as a form of surrendering himself. "I surrender. Do whatever you want with me, but let them go. They have nothing to do with this."

Jordan knew there was something wrong when Rebecca ran away while leaving the person she liked alone fighting for her. But it was a matter of his pride as Tyler had humiliated him in the public, not considering the fact that he was the one who had challenged him.

"Oye, Tyler, what are you doing?" Kyther reacted to Tyler's words.

"I am sorry, but I can not meet your demand," Jordan responded to Tyler. "Soldiers, kill them," He ordered his soldiers.

Joseph and others leaned against the backs of each other, readying themselves to fight to death, but they suddenly heard a voice of someone ordering the soldiers to stop.

"Stop!"

"My lord?" Jordan saw it was the governor. The soldiers all stopped in their places when they heard the voice. They were surprised as Rebecca was with him too. "Rebecca?" Jordan mouthed when he saw her.

Joseph and others saw Niko with him as well. "It must be Niko," Tyler said. "He must have told the governor about us. And the fat old guy must be the governor."

Joseph nodded. "Yeah."

"My lord, he is the reason to bring shame to our noble family. Let me finish him and his accomplices," Jordan insisted.

"Stop, Jordan. You have already lost the duel. You are the one bringing the shame to the noble family," Niko said, but closed his mouth immediately when he saw the governor side-eyeing him.

"Shut up, you mad book-worm!" Jordan reacted in anger.

"He is right," The governor said in between. "Do not act impulsively." He looked at Tyler's tired face. "Besides, Niko knows them."

"What?" Jordan was surprised at this. "Are you involved in this too?" He inquired Niko, but Niko shrugged and did not answer.

"Bring them to the palace!" ordered the governor.
