"Mona," his voice came out softly as he went closer to her. Mona now accepted his presence after looking back to confirm it was Kenny. She didn't utter an answer and just continued throwing the stones. Soon, she stopped and glanced at Kenny's cheap sandals he had on.
Anytime she gets reminded that her first love was a poor person, it breaks her heart but not as much as knowing he doesn't love her in return. Now she knew how Derrick must have felt when she rejected his feelings. She played with the stones in her hands.
Mona had stopped crying when she reached the river, she just took a deep breath and calmed her soul, she hit her chest with her fist and sighed out heavily to squelch her feelings. She now decided to play with the stones which occupied her mind from thinking about Kenny.
"Kenny," she answered after a very long silence. Kenny too had been standing by her side without saying a word because he didn't know what to say.
