The moment Mr Ken noticed that Mona had seen part of him, he shut his eyes close. He clenched his eyelids together and opened his eyes. "M-mr Ken your eyes, they are red," Mona blurted out.
Urgh! What was going on with him? Why did his eyes have to express themselves now? He sighed and went short of words.
What lie would he say to the little girl? He couldn't just say to her that he was supernatural and his eyes were his expression of what was happening. He sighed.
"I-it's red?" He acted dumb about it. And the girl nodded her head.
'Come on Kenny, I'll save you from this if you just kiss her. Let me see you kiss her' Kenny heard again and pouted at Mona making her think she said something wrong so she used her fist to cover her face.
"No, no. . . Mona," he wanted to be clear in front of her as she had gotten him wrong. "I'm sorry, just that I am stuck for now. And my eyes are red because I ate some fruits I shouldn't have. Believe me," his tone sounded so pleading.
So, she lowered her hand to see his eyes had returned to their normal state. "But you said we don't have much time," she almost muttered. Mr Ken was on top of her! This was hilarious! Oh, why was she so excited about it? It's her mathematics teacher but he is also her friend. It wasn't wrong. Was it?
"Yes, we'll. . .get going now," he tried to pull himself back but the force applied to him was extreme. 'Stop this Jal, it's not right! I have a reputation and I can't kiss her, if you don't stop I'll be forced to reveal myself, is that okay?' Kenny didn't receive a response and with that, he was able to get on his feet. Afterward, he extended his hand to the girl and pulled her up. Mona's expression was exhilarated, she sighed and before she could dust herself, Mr Ken took the step and dust her clothes, not only that. He touched her curves which weren't so noticeable and then he used the leaf to dry her face, as he proceeded. He realized he was actually touching her, so he took her hand and placed the leaf on her hand. "Y-you should do the rest yourself," he scratched the back of his ear and looked away. What was wrong with him? He was and had never felt this way for women, and now a girl?
He looked around as he expected Jal to make fun of him or tease him with his emotions but such didn't happen so he smiled secretly and spoke inwardly. 'Really? You are upset with me now'
'You didn't kiss the girl,' Jal could only speak in supernatural like Kenny's mind. He wasn't a person, he was more like a gut feeling or an inner voice but he existed differently.
'What do you want her to think if I kiss her?' He asked and glanced at Mona to see if she was done drying herself.
"Why is the leaf performing the work of a towel?"
"Because you believe it would dry you, let's go." He placed his palm flat on her back and turned in the direction they came from.
'She would only think you like her'
'Which I don't, sometimes Jal. You should reason before you make such demands now her mind is busy about the incident earlier'
'Whatever, if you don't like her why did your eyes turn red and your pupils became bigger?'
'I really don't know but me being the owner of my body, mind, and soul will know what I feel so stop Jal, stop!'
'I will stop but will wait for the day you'll bring her back here as your wife'
Kenny just rolled his eyes. How can that ever happen?
They reached the dark road and he held her hand instead of her waist and led her through the dark. She wasn't scared when she was with Mr Ken, she felt more than safe in his arms and when he was around.
He didn't ask her to open the way this time, he just place his hand on the rock and the door went open.
Eventually, they were out of the woods and it was dusk already. 7:35 pm. Mr Ken was right, time in there was so slow while on the earth. Time flies so fast. Maybe that was why it was said that time waited for no one.
They finally found a bus after waiting at the bus station for more than twenty minutes. Just like how they were seated in the morning, they sat that way and the girl fell asleep on the bus.
Mr Ken stared at her for a while and noticed her neck would hurt if she let her head fall that way, so he gently placed her head on his shoulder and stroked her cheek as he had been craving.
"Mummy will ask me why I came late," Mona breathe out after she climbed out of the bus with Mr Ken by her side.
"Mona, calm down okay?" He mentioned. The girl had gasped out of her slumber on the bus earlier as if she had been dreaming of how she'd explain to her mummy why she came late. "Don't tell me you are crying," he extended his neck to view her face but she made it easy by looking at him. She looked teary.
Mr Ken sighed. "But you are eighteen, you are an adult Mona," he blurted out.
While Mona was increasing her pace to her home. She clasped her bag tightly in fear and she was shivering. "Mummy doesn't see me as eighteen and besides. I don't consider myself an adult yet," she pouted.
With the fast pace, she didn't realize that they had walked passed Mr Ken's house but he did. He would follow her home if that was needed. It was needed because it was a few minutes after eleven. Almost midnight! If her mummy wasn't angry she'd be worried sick about her.
"Mona!" He called her name so she looked at him desperately.
"You caused all this," she was crying?
Mr Ken took a deep breath and placed his hands on her shoulders. "If you want me to explain to your parents, I will,"
"No," she shook her head and lowered it. "They won't understand," she moved away and approached the hills. Mona ran up and entered the streets to her house. When she was finally at her gate, she stopped and stared at it for a while.
Mummy, please don't be home but if mummy is not home that means she must be looking for me, she jumped in anxiety and couldn't make any move. How would she fix this?
"Mona," she heard her name from behind her only to see Mr Ken standing like a statue. Without thinking twice she ran to him and enfolded him. She was quaking in fear.
