The devil conjured another chair for me, and I had to sit for fear of what the devil might do to me should I refuse to do so.
Currently, we are in his domain. Anything I do now determines what happens to me. Who knows, the devil might be a sadistic male who derives joy in throwing his victims out to his demons who will gladly tear me apart, limb by limb.
"It's time for the first battle of the day!" The same demon who greeted us with a voice as light as that of a human boomed loudly, and the demons shouted after him.
You can scent the bloodthirsty on the air as they cheered for the participants of the game.
The first demon that came out is blue and red. But unlike the ones at the door, his horns are moderate, and so are his fangs. Compared to those at the door, this one looks more like their angel.
"This is a fifth level demon. He came out to fight, not for the post of a guard, but for a raise in his level. He wants to be promoted to level six, rank one."
I nod at the devil's words, although I don't know exactly what he's talking about. Presently, I can only classify the demon based on the colour of their skin. Any other classification can take to the skies.
The Demon in the ring howled, and the people cheered. The booming sound from them would have deafened my poor ears had it not been for the distance between us.
"Why are they cheering so loudly? Can't they act like Normal Humans?"
I can't believe my first Time being in a battle arena will be this noisy to the extent it might pull down the poor old House they built this underground arena in.
"We are not humans, wife. You need to stop classifying me as such." He said it as if being a human is a crime.
" You're not even happy I thought of you as human. You should have been ecstatic." I frown at him.
" Ecstatic?" He scoffed at that. " You want me to be ecstatic when you not only brought me below my station, but you compare me to the pathetic humans."
" We are not pathetic!"
"Are we here to quarrel, or to watch the fight? Should you not want to watch the fight, you can tell me that. I'll gladly take you to my Palace."
"I'm going nowhere." I stubbornly fold my arms, "We are already here, I don't see the reason we need to leave."
Not only am I eager to see the fight between demons, but I want to prolong my entrance into his Palace.
It makes everything real.
And right now, I don't want realism.
I would like to dwell more in fantasy than realism.
"Then focus on the fight you came to watch, and stop picking petty fights with me. It's not becoming of a male." He lightly tugs my nose.
"Ouch!" I slap his hands off my small nose. " You aim to kill me?" Frowning at him, I fold my arm.
I turn to watch the fight. Busy as I was arguing with the Devil, I didn't notice when the second fighter came in.
Unlike the one before him, this demon is an orange coloured one. But that's not what was odd about him.
Unlike the other demons I've seen so far, this one has not only a tail but one eye which is currently in the middle of his face, in the same line as his mouth and nose.
"What's this?"
I gave the Demon a curious look.
"He's a level two demon. Unlike the level five demons, he's fighting for a place in the guard academy. He knows he can't go up the levels like the level four to ten demons, that's why he took the next best alternative."
"And that's to be a guard?" I scoff.
Far be it that I'll allow someone like him to guard me. There's no saying how many nightmares I'll have a night, all because of him.
"That's the only option for the level one to three demons. Do you think the level two demon is hideous? Wait until you see the level one demon. You might run for cover." He teased," if I should advise you. I'll advise you to be prepared to see the level one demon by searching for a good hiding place."
" Who Said I am afraid?" I scoff at him before turning my attention to the fighters who are currently giving each other the stink look.
The level five demon is looking at the level two demon as if he's not worthy of his time.
Undoubtedly, he has already gotten the prize as the best fighter among them, in his mind.
"One of them will have to die, or is the fight to the death just a mere name?"
" It's not a name alone. One of them has to die to determine the victory."
" And they are aware of that?" I ask to be sure the fighters know what they signed for.
I don't see any reason why someone will willingly engage in a battle he's aware he might not emerge victoriously.
"Of course, they are aware of what they signed up for." The devil smirked," You'll be surprised to know the number of those who just decide to fight, not for any level or position, but for the thrill of killing an opponent."
"Just when I thought you guys can't be more barbaric, you proved me wrong."
The Devil scoffed," in all you do Humans, never forget this basic fact. I might look human, but I'm not human. I'm far from being human."
" You don't have to tell that to me all the time." I wave his words off," I'm quite aware you are not a human. No need to remind me of that every chance you get."
" Just to make sure we are on the same page. Wouldn't want to be ahead of you."
