Chapter 3 - A strange body

''He's been sleeping, I could only slow down the movement of the poison for a few hours, thank God you're back, did you get it?'' The girl asked, a bit impatiently, as she stared at Nyx. Nyx nodded and reached inside the sack she was carrying and brought out the spider's heart.

''Thank goodness, let me go get the physician. '' The girl said and ran off. Nyx quickly took a bowl and placed the heart inside.

''Fetch me some water from the pot. '' Nyx said and Shane looked around. He saw a bronze pot at the end of the room, so he fetched a bowl of water from it and brought it to Nyx.

''What happened to him?'' Shane asked as he watched her pour water into the dish containing the spider's heart.

''He was injured by that monster I killed. The venom of giant spiders kills even with the slightest scrape. You have at most 24 hours to live before you're dead. Only the spider's heart can be used to make the antidote. ''

Nyx replied. Shane was about to ask another question when Nyx placed her hands above the bowl, and the water boiled in seconds.

His eyes widened; ''Did you just heat up the water with your hands?'' he was amazed,

Nyx noticed his excitement, and she laughed, ''This is nothing, all flame descendants can do this. ''

The door opened again, and the girl entered with a middle-aged man. When the man saw Nyx heating the water, he nodded;

''I hope you did not get hurt, yourself?'' The physician inquired and Nyx shook her head,

''Other than a few lost breaths, I'm as good as new. ''

He smiled and looked at Shane and the girl; ''You both wait outside. ''

Shane went out with the girl, and she shut the door right after. Silence ensued between the two, as they stood outside waiting for the physician to be done.

The girl took a peek at Shane. He was tall, with a good body build, and was a little too good-looking. If he had powers, he would have been one of the most attractive descendants. He was staring at the distance, lost in thoughts and she was curious as to what he was thinking.

''Where do you come from? '' The girl asked and Shane looked at her, scratching his head;

''I do not remember. I have no recollection of anything. ''

''Oh… so how do you remember your name?''

Shane gulped as he quickly cooked up a lie. ''That was the only thing I could remember when I opened my eyes, '' he explained. It was better that he told them he lost his memories, because who would believe him if he said he was from another planet?

''You're like the only white-haired human I've seen with no abilities. White-haired humans are rare and they all have powers.''

''Wait… my hair is white?'' Shane asked, his eyes wide open. Wait a damn second. Did he wake up in someone else's body?

The girl laughed. ''You don't know what color your hair is? Don't tell me you've forgotten how you look, too?''

Shane's heart was beating fast at this point. To think he was not in enough dilemma, ''Do you have a mirror?''

The girl was surprised at Shane's question. She did not expect that he would indeed forget what he looked like, but the look on his face told her she might be right. ''What for?'' She asked.

''Well, I do not think I know what I look like at this point. ''

The girl laughed, ''are you serious now? '' She stared at Shane in surprise, but when she noticed he was serious, she stopped laughing.

''Follow me,'' she said and led Shane to another room. There was no one in and there was a tall mirror hanging on the wall.

Shane's pulse raced as he approached the mirror, praying earnestly that he was wrong, but the moment he saw his reflection, he screamed.

''Why are you shouting?!'' the girl asked, hurriedly covering his lips with her small hands as if that could do a thing.

Shane did not know how to reply. How was he going to tell the girl that the body he was looking at in the mirror was not his?

Shane walked closer to the mirror and felt his face with his hands, well the upside of this body was that he was incredibly good-looking, but apart from that, how the heck did he wake up in someone else's body?

He took a few moments to calm down and inspect himself. His hair was white, and his eyes were silver-colored. He looked ethereal. This was the most handsome face he'd ever seen.

''What is the matter? Do you not recognize yourself?'' The girl asked, startled by his reaction.

''Yeah, I did not know that this was what I looked like. '' Shane cleared his throat. He was not sure how he would get used to being this handsome. On Earth, he was mediocre, a little bald-headed, and lanky. The girls never looked his way, and he didn't bother chasing them, after the only girl he liked in junior high read his love letter in front of the entire school.

He wondered whose body he was in and if they were looking for him? Who was he?

The girl shrugged, ''I'm Tatiana, a 5th lower rank water descendant.''

Shane scratched his head; ''I'm Shane. A human.''

The girl smiled, ''Now to find you where to sleep for the night, you'll have to join the other guys, be meek and just find a corner to rest your head, don't go finding anyone's trouble, as a weakling with no powers, you don't want to get on the bad side of a descendant. ''

Shane nodded, and the girl led him out of the room. As they walked to the dorm of the boys, Shane asked.

''Nyx said she is a flame descendant, and you just mentioned you're a water descendant. Does this mean that you can conjure water and she, fire?''

Tatiana nodded, ''Yes, but the amount of form you can conjure depends on your mana and spirit energy.

Descendants are born with this sigil,"

Tatiana explained, showing Shane the back of her wrist,

"This number in here is the amount of mana I have, and the darker the imprint, the higher my spirit energy."

Shane looked at her wrist, there was a circular symbol with numbers written in it. The symbol was faint but he could still see it.

"46?" He asked?

"Yeah, it's that low because I'm a 5th rank descendant. The higher your mana the higher your rank.'' Tatiana explained.

Shane thought for a moment;

''What will happen to me if I don't regain my memories?'' Shane asked.

Tatiana crossed her arms as she thought;

''Mm, you'll probably be sent away. Everyone here is a descendant, just a few who work in the kitchens and in the fields do not have powers.''

''But what if I want to stay?'' Shane knew that there was no memory to regain because he lost none. And there was nowhere to go to either, his only hope was to persuade them to let him stay, otherwise, he would be torn apart by monsters the instant he set his feet outside the Academy.

Tatiana chuckled; ''Trust me, you don't want to stay here. The lowest rank descendants don't have it easy, let alone you, an ordinary human with no powers. Everyone will bully you, you will not survive a week. So pray that you regain your memories as soon as possible and be on your way.''

Shane sighed; where would he go from here? He had no idea where he was. How would he get his soul back into his body on Earth? Why the hell were all these happening to him?
