"I'm going to provoke your anger so that side of you can come out, "
Nyx said as she stepped away from Shane.
"Sorry in advance. I'll hurt you a little."
A smile stretched her lips as her hands lit up in flames;
She put her hands together and opened them, then pushed them forward towards Shane, and tiny spikes of flames darted towards Shane. He tried to evade them, but most of them hit his body, creating small burns all over his body.
"Arrghhh!! " Shane groaned, looking at his clothes, which had gotten burnt in several places.
He hadn't gotten his stance yet when Nyx ambushed him, kicking him high in the air. While in the air, she delivered five swift kicks that cracked his ribs.
"Fuckn hell!" Shane groaned as he fell to the ground.
A surge of lightning blasted through his body, lifting him off the ground. Pushing his hands towards Nyx, he unleashed a bolt of lightning at her, but she used her powers to create a shield that deflected the bolt of lightning back to Shane.
Shane fell to the ground, unable to breathe properly. Nyx sighed and walked to where he lay on the ground.
His eyes sparked open instantly, and they were pitch black.
Before Nyx could react, he swept her legs, and she fell to the ground. He was on top of her the next instant, pinning her arms to the ground.
"Control it," Nyx said as she gazed intently into his void eyes.
Shane breathed, exhaling through his lips.
"You can do it," Nyx spoke again as a dark aura encircled them. After some seconds, he closed his eyes and opened them and they were back to normal.
Shane smirked;
"Don't let your guards down when next to an enemy. It has, in most cases, resulted in death."
Nyx smiled, "I guess you are one to talk."
Shane gave her a grin while still not letting go of her arm. His eyes traveled down her face and lingered on her lips.
She had plump lips and now Shane looked at them; he realized he had never seen them dry.
His eyes looked back at her big eyes and she was staring at him, unblinking.
They were not saying anything to each other, the wind gusting around them in the empty field.
Shane's heart began to race as he stared at her. She was suddenly too pretty and feminine. At that moment, he didn't look at her as a senior, but as a woman.
As if Nyx suddenly came back to her senses, she kicked Shane in the back with her knee;
"Ouch!" Shane let out a groan as he moved away from her and she stood up.
Clearing her throat, she straightened her uniform. "Report to the Council tomorrow. I'm done with you."
With that, she turned around and walked away.
After she had left, Shane stood up and touched his chest, which was still beating a little fast;
What was that just now?
…
The next day, Shane reported to the council.
To test him, Eve summoned a Second rank water descendant.
Nyx already told them that Shane merely touching a descendant does not drain their mana. It was only when he was in a rage he could do so. So they brought in a 2nd rank descendant.
They fought for a while, and luckily, Shane did not drain his mana throughout the fight. Seeing that he could keep himself under control, they officially let him into the Academy.
Shane knelt in front of the council as he said his oath of allegiance, which was written in a book placed in front of him.
"My duty is to protect humans and wage war against demons and monsters, and I will live and die by this duty.
I will be my brother's keeper and fight till my last blood. To this, I solemnly swear."
Shiro stood up and presented him with his namestone and uniforms.
"Welcome to the Academy, Shane; what is your last name?"
"Rodgers. Shane Rodgers."
"Welcome to the Academy, Shane Rodgers. I have to tell you also that in as much as you've been accepted, the day you take a descendant's mana is the day you shall die. Is that understood?"
Shane gave a small nod as he took the items and stood up.
"You'll be assigned to a training team today. Take every minute serious as you don't know when you shall be called for battle." Shiro stated.
Shane was quickly assigned to a team. They all had lightning powers, but Shane was surprised at what they could do with their powers. He could only form bolts of lightning, but they could do so many things, just like Nyx.
But he noticed that the higher their mana, the more attacks they could unleash.
His team leader was Dai, Luna's friend which she had introduced to him previously at the dining hall. Although they had met briefly in the past, he didn't act like he knew him. Shane wasn't bothered anyway, as long as he didn't mistreat him.
The other members of his team were mostly 4th and 5th ranks. Sky had explained the mana ranking to him, and from his mana number, he knew he was a 5th rank. Training that day was mainly to learn attacks, and Shane couldn't be more overjoyed.
He was amazed at what Nyx could do with her powers. He wanted to learn those too.
"… you cannot use enormous attacks with low mana, they will not work for the most part and even if it does, you'll be left with little to no mana and it'll draw from your spirit energy, and you don't want that to happen. You have to use attacks that are synonymous with your mana."
Dai explained to them.
"Each one of you has a unique attack, which is more prominent than other attacks you can unleash. You have to look deep within yourself to unearth that one unique assault. Attacks are not something that can be taught. They develop with you as you continue to train and be more connected with your spirit mind. That only will teach you your attacks."
Shane listened quietly;
When he was taken over by that dark energy the night before, he did not allow it to control him, and the only way he could do this was by allowing himself become one with the energy.
The other times, he had tried to resist the force, but it wielded stronger power. But the moment he immersed himself in it, it was easy to control.
