"Dark red hair.."
A whisper escaped between Veda's lips as her eyes explored the whole place just by sitting on the couch with her friend beside. "He wears a pair of glasses for disguise as well. So the man with dark red hair and glasses is what we have to find" From the side, Aria informed.
She had to know this much at least due to the face that she paid more than a thousand dollars. "I can't get to see almost everyone. Let me walk around and search for better view" Veda got up from the couch. "Wait, you got it?" With a slight frown displayed, Aria asked.
Hushing down the young woman wholly. She slightly tilted her head to express the puzzlement. Facing down at Aria with full of confusion written across her expression. "Are you talking about the money?" Cluelessly, she responded with a query back. Disappointing Aria.
"No. The gun" Noticing how her friend did not catch what she said, Aria got straight to the point. It was the moment a nod came up from Veda. "Here. I made sure to get it" At last, understanding the meaning, She wore a smile and patted the purse in her grasp as gesture.
"Don't shoot at all the people who annoy you just because you got a gun with yourself tonight. It's only a protection to use if someone ever attempted to hurt you" Aria alerted. Appearing as a mother figure which caused Veda to let out a chuckle. "I know. You don't need to warn"
She retorted.
And so the young woman stepped away from the place to look for the certain man in this casino while Aria went to the opposite way of her friend. Instead of wasting the time, they preferred to use it wisely; the reason why they separated and blended into the crowd quickly.
"No! Give my money back! I did not lose this game! You cheated! You must be cheating through out the whole game to win against me!" A loud shout echoed from the corner. Capturing Veda's attention who was pretending to be someone searching for partner to gamble.
She turned her head to the side where the voice came up. Only to meet the certain man she had been looking for the entire time. Dark red hair. A pair of glasses. There he was! Lucius Ford under disguise! "Tell me how you are cheating! Confess everything right now!"
And there the yelling woman was. She seemed frustrated. Her finger pointed at the man across the table who did not even react to her. He just gazed at her in tranquility. Treating her as an invisible fool. "Take her away" Three words escaped between his lips at last.
"So she lost to him and felt unfair" Judging by the atmosphere, Veda made up a conclusion quietly. When the woman disappeared from the sight, Veda walked near to the table with quick steps. Her eyes focused on the man in front of her only. Walking with back straight.
"Step back"
However, as the young woman tried to get near to the table, a man with a suit stepped forward to cease her. Peering down at her as an unworthy person. It irritated Veda totally so that her gaze blazed. He did not even plead nor use Miss as a signature of respect at least!
"I am here to gamble against that man. What do you think of yourself to stop me?" Boldly, Veda hissed. Maintaining the fierce eye contact with the man fearlessly. "He is not just a simple person to gamble as you wish. And I have right to prevent you also" The man notified.
"Cease me if you dare" Through gritted teeth, Veda challenged. Not giving a damn about the words of him. Ready to walk past the man. "I already warned you" Witnessing the courageous young woman, the man had to seize her wrist to stop her from meeting his Boss.
But who would have thought she saw his moves and managed to harm him even? As the man's hand rose to grasp her wrist, Veda grabbed his wrist first. Stamping his foot with her four inches high heels mercilessly, just to make him could not move his foot anymore.
"Ah.." a groan escaped from his lips. Revealing the pain he encountered right now. "I warned you as well" Along with a whisper, Veda smiled. Patting the shoulder of the man as if she did not just crushed his foot. She walked past him effortlessly. Directing to the main target.
The courage of Veda successfully captured the attention of the man who was observing from a far since the beginning. This was not common reaction. Normally, people would nod and walk away if someone alerted them to step back. Or some would try to dash to him.
However, take a loot at her.
This young woman even nearly mangled the man's foot without any reaction across her face because he attempted to prevent her. "What do you want?" The two men stepped forward as soon as Veda approached. Both of their irritated gazes landed upon her only.
They were surprised and upset at the scene they just witnessed. "Gamble. I crave to gamble against that man" Straightforwardly, Veda disclosed. Pointing her finger at the man who was staring at her silently. "How much you got right now then?" One of the men questioned.
"Probably three thousand most" Before Veda could answer, another man provoked. Laughing together as the man with damaged foot was dragged outside of casino. The way the two men mocked her angered Veda entirely. Keeping a death stare, she voiced. "A million dollars"
It was the moment, the two men fell into deep silence. They finally realized they messed with wrong person this time. "Boss, she is willing to gamble against you with a million dollars in her hands" Promptly, one of the men rushed near to inform. Delighting Veda.
A smile grew across her face. At the same time, the man's lips corner curved up into a satisfied beam. They maintained the eye contact still. "What are you waiting for? Sit already to lose everything you got" Harshly, the man welcomed. "Only if you deal with me" Veda responded.
It amused the man wholly.
She came with a plan up her sleeves. "Go on" He allowed. Letting her continue the explanation. It was the moment Veda knew she had achieved the first step of scheme. She stepped near to the table. Staring down into the man's eyes with a tranquil expression on.
"We both will have to bet a million dollars in this gamble. The winner gets the cash including one request from the loser. The appeal can be anything. And the loser has to fulfill everything without any complaints" Veda detailed the deal. It was simple enough to understand.
"What if I request your death?" Out of curiosity, the man queried. Hushing down the young woman. Well, what else she expected from a man like him? "You haven't even won yet. What's with the rush?" Veda's reply amused the man. Causing him to let out a chuckle.
"Is it a yes or no?" He repeated. "I am certain I said anything" The young woman stated. Telling she had no other options but to fulfill if she lost. It was when the man's lips formed into a gratified smile. He liked this one so far. "Deal. You can choose the contest as you please"
The man permitted Veda to pick any games she required as if he knew he was going to win whatever in the end. "You are so full of yourself. It would be satisfying to see you lose" Under her breath, Veda mumbled in annoyance. Settling down across the man with full of hatred.
"Have you chosen?"
The man questioned in curiosity. Tilting his head slightly. Looking straight into the eyes of the young woman who seemed to be using phone while pretending as if she was pulling out something. It was when Veda quickly lifted her gaze. "Yes. The thirty card game"
Maintaining the calm expression, the young woman grabbed out the piles of a hundred dollars to veil the fact that she was texting her friend awhile ago. Veda already informed Aria about encountering with the target. She invited her friend to the place she was at for the show.
"There will be only one round in this game" Veda declared. Seizing the cards from the dealer without asking for even. She did not give a fuck whatever they said. "Let me explain the rules" The young woman stated after pulling the needed cards out for description.
"Here, dealer will give you six cards in total after shuffling rows of zero to seven cards in all. One of six cards will be revealed for the players to determine their next moves. And the dealer will commence the game with number one card. But all the cards you play will be hidden.
You have right to lie about the number you just took out. Two players will keep pulling out the cards without revealing none till a player requires to stop. The goal is to reach thirty in this game. The one who increase the number of thirty loses. It's just a guessing game"
Each by each,
Veda explained the rules in tranquility. Earning a nod back from the man in understanding. "It is simple enough to get through. Let's commence the game" He rushed up. It was as if he could not wait to win the contest and request the young woman to lose her life.
"Alright. Here" Veda returned the cards back to the dealer. "Let's get straight to the point with a million" She called. Pushing the piles of hundred dollars to the front with a calm gaze. "A million dollars then" And the man did not hesitate. Getting after the amount right away.
"Wait, tell me your name" Out of the blue, before starting, the man asked as his eyes glued to the young woman only like a precious gem to keep forever. "Veda Ambrose" Veda responded. Maintaining the intense gaze courageously. "Veda... Got it" The man smiled strangely.
Causing Veda to tilt her head a bit. What was this reaction? Noticing the perplexed gaze of the young woman, the man cleared his throat. He believed she was waiting for him to introduce himself in return. And so he did it. "I am Lucius Ford" A beam flashed across his face.
Stunning Veda entirely.
