Chapter 30 - I like your confidence

"Morning, sweetheart!"

As Veda sat up on the bed instantly right after she woke up, a grin with warm voice of Marianne welcomed her. Causing her to flash a smile back. But inside deep down, she gritted her teeth in agony. This sudden migraine whenever she woke up was not that ok anymore.

It had worsened each day. There was a time, she saw an image of a familiar scene when she squeezed her eyes thanked to headache even. It felt weird as fuck so that Veda could not stop thinking about that for days and nights straight. Then, she managed to kick it off her mind.

"Mom, don't disturb her with your terrifying beam. Let her process the situation first" Rolling her eyes, Aria cautioned from behind. She sat on the chair not from afar. Observing the young woman's fake smile while Marianne shot a death glare at her daughter. "I am not bothering her"

The woman responded with a frown as she went into bathroom. Leaving the two young women behind. "You never know!" Aria shouted back. Making Veda stared at her with hint of disappointment in gaze. "Do you really have to be like that? She is not distracting me at all" Veda scowled.

"DID YOU HEAR HER?!"

Out of blue, Marianne yelled as if she was waiting for this golden moment since she walked away. It tickled the young woman who was getting out of the bed while Aria rolled her eyes with a smile across face. "She is childish as always" A murmur escaped between her lips.

"Nah. Your mother is just adorable" Veda corrected. Causing her best friend to nod in agreement. "When will you start your assistant job by the way? Did Lucius Ford tell you about the schedule?" Aria queried. "No, Den would be picking me up at anytime Lucius Ford craves"

Truthfully, Veda divulged. Only to puzzle Aria. "Den?" She tilted her head to express confusion. This was the first ever time hearing that name. Who was that person named Den? Curiosity rose up inside the young woman. Requiring to know. "He is a driver, like trustworthy one?"

Shrugging cluelessly, Veda replied. Her steps headed near to the table where the water bottle was at. "Be careful though. Trustworthy men like those are the scariest. I have read about them in books. You better be aware of your surrounding always around men like those"

Aria alerted.

Her gaze focused on the young woman who was gulping the water down unceasingly since it was a part of her morning routine. Then she closed the water bottle once she finished. "This is not a life of dark romance book. You should go outside and realize the reality"

As the sarcasm, Veda mocked. Walking near to her best friend who had a disappointed expression on. "You will find out soo-" before Aria could complete the sentence, a knocking sound echoed. Cutting the conversation off between the two young women. "Stay there still"

Aria ordered. Not letting the young woman open the door due to the fact that they had no clue when danger could break out. Without grumbling, Veda actually remained at the place. Obeying her best friend words. And so, Aria got up from chair, stepping near to the door.

She balled up her fists just in case someone outside the door tried to do something. But before she could check who the person was, he knocked once again and voiced.

"Miss Veda Ambrose. It is me, Den. The one who dropped you off last night" the man divulged his identity.

Causing Aria to turn her head.

And the eye contact between the two best friends quieted down the whole room. Without any words, Aria raised her right brow and frowned. Asking if she should open the door or not. They two did not utter a sound. Instead, they communicated with expressions.

Proceeding the atmosphere, Veda nodded firmly. Making Aria sighed out loud. At last, she unlocked the door. Only to meet the man at the place, he stood there still. Eyes detecting the whole room first. Then his gaze landed on the young woman at the back. "Miss Veda"

In awareness, Den gave a slight head bow to her. Causing the young woman to nod back in perplexity. "You got thirty minutes to get ready by now, Miss Veda Ambrose. Boss has ordered me to pick you up" The man explained the situation in short. Ignoring Aria in front of him.

"Thirty minutes? Shouldn't you at least give her an hour? She literally just woke up. It is not like your dear Boss is going to die if he contacted her through messages or calls" A scowl displayed across Aria's face. Expressing the displeasement on behalf of her best friend instead.

Finally, it drew Den's attention.

He gazed at her quietly. His hand sneaking down near in silence which panicked the two young women. This man! Was he taking the gun out to shoot at Aria because she talked about Lucius Ford causally?! "Wait! I will be down at the car parking in thirty minutes"

In hurry, Veda broke in. Rushing near to the door as she seized her friend's hand. It was the moment, Den looked up at her. He took his hands back. "Understood" Then he bowed. Leaving from the place in tranquility. Letting Veda breathed out loud to express the relief.

"What the fuck is his problem?" Aria commenced to complain. Slamming the door in fury as Veda shook her head slightly. "Weren't you the one who cautioned me to be careful around men like those?" She stated. Her steps headed near to the luggage while Aria rolled her eyes.

"Whatever" She shrugged. And so the young woman got dressed in thirty minutes. The two best friends headed to the car parking lot together after. "Kick his balls if he attempts to do something to you. Just punch him" Aria taught as she linked her arm with her best friend.

"No, I would rather kick his chest"

In disgust, Veda denied. Causing her best friend to roll her eyes. "You idiot, sensitive part of the man isn't others but his motherfucking balls" Along with a tightened frown, Aria affirmed. "Oh, please. It is revolting. I am about to throw up if you keep mentioning that shit over and over"

Yet, Veda refused. The two best friends continued to chat all along, till they reached to the car where the man was waiting. He stood in front of the car with arms crossed. "Don't forget my words, Miss Girl" Aria whispered. Bringing a smile up onto Veda's face as a response.

"Bye" She patted her best friend's arm and went into the car quickly. Aria stood at there still, waving at her best friend as the car drove off from the place. Through out the ride, not even a word came up from both of them. The car was under deep silence. Veda remained silent.

And so the man as well. "Please follow after me, Miss" Den stated a request. Walking out of the car after parking the car in front of a cafe. "Huh? I expected at least a company or the mansion. How come the first location is cafe?" Puzzlement began to echo inside Veda's head as query.

Having no clue about current situation.

But without any complaints, she went after the man who was waiting for her patiently from outside. "Is he even here?" Doubt flashed across the gaze of the young woman. "Yes" Shortly and sharply, Den responded. Walking from the front after locking the car. "This man has no soul"

Due to vexation, a murmur escaped between Veda's lips. Rolling her eyes as she gripped the shoulder bag firmly. Today, she specially chose the cropped white blouse and blue flared jeans. The sunglasses was required of course. White high heels finished the look simply.

The off-duty supermodel had entered the cafe. "Morning" With a smile tugged at his lips, Lucius Ford waved at the young woman. "Ugh, I hate that beam" At the sight, Veda mumbled quietly to herself. She took a seat across the man while Den settled down at another table.

"So where is your schedule?" Veda crossed her legs. Getting straight to the point without hesitating. "The file in front of you is my schedule. I have arranged another assistant for you just in case you have no clue what to do" Lucius apprised. Taking a sip of the coffee with a smile.

"No, I am aware"

Veda denied. She seized the file across her and checked the inside. "Can you guarantee you would not mess up my plans then? Could you, Miss Veda Ambrose?" Suspicion hinted in Lucius's tone. He laid the cup back down on the table. His gaze landed on the young woman.

The way she focused on the file revealed her concentration in this job. Slowly, Veda lifted her eyes. Making the eye contact with the man courageously. "Being your assistant is a piece of cake. It is not that complicated to mess up even" She retorted with a calm face.

Causing the man to smirk.

"I like your confidence"
