Chapter 2 - He is gone

"How courageous of you.."

The man who was strangling another, smirked. Peering at the girl from head to toes. At the terrifying gaze of the man, chills ran down Veda's spine. Causing her to gulp in nervousness. Thanked to blood all over the two faces, she failed to memorize their faces.

What should she do in this situation? Should she walk pass him and run to house? Or should she dash to the place where the crowd would be as her teacher educated? Between two options, Veda confused herself. Just what should she do right now?!

As a six years old girl, she chose to run into crowd at last. However, as she decided to rush from the place, the man's hand reached to her neck. Grabbing her firmly. His speed left Veda in shock. She literally just turned around. How did this man managed to catch her in a blink?

Was he some sort of villains with powers from movies? With the child brain, Veda thought. Believing the man was uncommon. The man might be grabbing the girl's neck tightly with a smirk, but he did not let go of another man either. He held both firmly in his grasp.

"How unlucky of you, little girl. You shouldn't have chosen this path" he chuckled in amusement. Quivering Veda totally. Slowly, the grip tightened. Making the girl could not breath. Even though the man was strangling from back, it pained her still. Causing her to grit teeth.

"Let her go"

At last, a voice echoed the alleyway. It caught the girl's attention fully so that she turned over her shoulder with widened eyes, only to meet the cold gaze. 'He is still alive? The man is not dead yet even though this villain is strangling him and lifting his body into air?' She frowned.

Puzzled over the incident which was confusing as fuck. What was going on? How could this man talk causally while his neck was being squeezed tight by this strong man? "My my. You finally regained consciousness!" the man thrillingly voiced. Looking up into cold gaze.

"Don't make me repeat and let her go. She did not do anything wrong" with flickering eyes, the man commanded. His hand rose. Gripping on the hair of the man who was strangling him. A giggle escaped. "Then give me your life" the man ordered with a smirk.

"How dare you ask for my life" in frustration, the man gritted his teeth. He cupped the man's cheeks. Completely surprising the man who believed his strength was enough to murder someone by strangling. But this man who he was choking, even moved and regained awareness.

How was this feasible?! There was no way someone could talk effortlessly and proceed his hands while being strangled with all the strength! Meanwhile, poor Veda had no clue what was happening. She just swallowed the urge to cry in fear. Trying her best to stay calm.

Soothing her pounding heart.

She could not yell out loud and sob like a loser in this kind of situation. Her father, Luke taught her to remain tranquil and think of a way. Right. She had to consider on escaping from these crazy men. She had to run away from these stupid men who were powerful than her.

"You dare to ask for my life, huh?"  The man with a cold gaze muttered. His hands cupped the trembling man's cheeks. "Yeah. It is no use for you anyway" not knowing the cruel future which was waiting for him, the man with a smirk responded. "Go fuck yourself"

The man with a cold gaze muttered. And his thumb poked right through the left eye of the man. Thrusting his thumb till it cut through the eyeball. "AHHHH!!!" In pain mixed with disbelief, the man yelled. Startling the girl wholly. The scene horrified Veda totally.

Everything happened so fast that she failed to catch up. The way he pressed his thumb right into left eye of the man heartlessly, the way his face did not even make any expression, the way he did not blink while taking someone's eye, terrified the girl entirely.

For a moment, Veda's soul left the world. "ARRR!" the man cried out loud. Letting go the neck of the girl and the man as he knelt down on the ground. His hand covering the left eye where the blood gushed out. "I already warned you to run away and let that kid go"

The man with a cold gaze voiced.

Adjusting his necktie calmly. It was as if he did not care how he just blinded someone with bare thumb. And his terrifying gaze shifted. Locking with Veda's widened eyes. "Run back to your house right now before you pee in your pants, kid" he alerted in tranquil tone.

However, the girl only blinked. Confusing him somehow. "Are you ok, Mister?" Unexpected query from Veda shocked the man. "Your nose. It is bleeding" the girl informed with a slight frown. "I know" the man retorted, coldly. Causing Veda to gulp in nervousness and fear.

Her hand slipped into her side pocket of backpack. "Here, take it" she took out the lilac colored handkerchief. Handing it to the man in fear. Her actions surprised the man who anticipated her to run away in hurry. Hesitantly, the man furrowed his brows.

Not accepting the handkerchief at all. "Why are you giving that to me, kid?" he questioned out of curiosity. Pondering the reason behind. "You rescued me from this villain man, Mister. That's why I am returning the favor with my favorite handkerchief" Veda stated.

"Please take it, Mister. I don't want to owe you" she disclosed. Persuading the man to accept the handkerchief. And he did took it in confusion. Bringing up a tiny smile on the Veda's face. "Bye bye! Don't forget to take care of yourself, Mister" the girl bowed.

Perplexing the man wholly.

Then Veda dashed off from the place. Heading to the place without turning back. She could not care how her legs were getting tired because of anxiety and exhaustion. She could not care about others anymore. She would like to be at home right now.

She would like to meet her parents and embrace them tightly. Maybe because of the petrifying situation she just encountered, she suddenly missed her mother and father. Maybe she was terrified. "Ha.. ha.. ha.." out of breath, Veda stood in front of house. She had reached.

She had successfully arrived back to home after getting through many things! A grin flashed across Veda's face as soon as she stepped into the house. However, the smile did not last long when she witnessed Irena also known as her mother sobbing on the floor alone.

"Mom..." With a perplexed frown, the girl voiced. Capturing the woman's attention fully. "Veda!" she yelled out loud in surprised tone. Her rosy cheeks and runny nose clearly pointed out how much she cried. Irena spread her arms as if she had been missing her daughter.

Without hesitating, Veda went in for a tight embrace. This was what she needed. A warm hug. "Why are you shedding tears, mom?" The girl asked and broke the embrace. But the reaction of her mother shocked her wholly. Instead of an artificial smile with fake answer, Irena cried.

She sobbed even more.

Confusing the girl totally. Curiosity rose inside her. "Mom... what is going on?" she queried. Furrowing her brows tightly. "Your father.." Irena voiced in low tone. Sniffling while wiping the tears away. It seemed like she was collecting energy to speak it out loud.

"What's wrong?" Veda asked again. Caressing the cheeks of her mother. She began to concern. "Luke.." Irena muttered. "Your father is dead, Veda" the woman notified. It was the moment the girl's eyes widened in disbelief. Her whole body froze at the place.

"No way.." Veda murmured. Not accepting the reality which was harsh. Irena sniffled. Failing to stop the tears. "It is true, Veda. He got into car accident on the way to pick you up from school" she detailed. Pressing her lips tightly to hold back the tears in front of her daughter.

"He is gone, Veda. He left us...." The heartbreak Irena was suffering could be heard through her tone. She was trying her best. Attempting to remain calm and pretend as if her heart was not damaged in front of the girl. No words came up from Veda. She stared at her mother.

Tears commenced to form in her grey colored hazel eyes. No. No. No. Her father was not dead yet. He was still alive. This was not true. This must be a nightmare. Right. This must be a dream. She had to wake up right now. Her mother must be upset that she still was asleep.

She needed to get up.

Everything she met today must be all just a dream. Just a nightmare. Right, she was dreaming. A laughter escaped between Veda's lips. "Funny. Ahahahaha. I am still asleep huh. I should wake up right now" with tears rolling down on her cheeks, the girl stated.

Chuckling out loud to veil her pain. And the woman knew it so well. "I am so sorry, sweetheart. I am sorry" Irena just pulled her daughter. Embracing the girl tightly as she kept murmuring how she felt guilty to put Veda through all of these difficult situations. "It is all my fault"

Irena whispered. Blaming on herself as the girl shook her head in disapproval. "No, mom" She protested. Breaking the hug with a smile tugged at her lips. "Dad is still alive. He is not dead, mother. He is still alive" Veda assured. Causing the woman to sob even harder.

"I am so sorry, sweetheart. I know it is tough for you to accept. I am so sorry" Again and again, she apologized unceasingly. Hugging her daughter tightly. All of sudden, the girl quieted down. "Dad..." a murmur escaped between Veda's lips. Accepting the reality finally.

"Dad!! NO!!" she cried out loud. Bawling out in sorrow. Her heart hurt. It ached. She could not handle this much pain. She had to cry it out loud. She had to yell out loud her emotions. Irena clenched her jaw. Embracing her daughter tightly as she swallowed the urge to shout.

'Luke is gone. He is dead'
