Waking up, Kai lay there for a while reading through his status and deciding his next moves. He knew he had to bring the village under his control and subordinate the people here, but he also knew he needed to up the defences of the village by a lot. After all, he had just waltzed in and no one cared, if he was a bad person or worse a monster then what would've happened? Even with people constantly moving around the village, if a child decided to play by the outskirts of the village, then they might be attacked by a monster! He also had other ideas that could be put in place but first he needed two things, a map and proper tools! So far although the map function wasn't greyed out, it was completely black with only the compass in the top right corner being usable, so he needed a map since the function wasn't working for him. Next was the tools as although he had crafted a carving knife, he was still using the sandy vine and desired a better sanding tool than the crappy vines that ran out quickly.
Thinking these things, he got up and ventured to the kitchen but the old man was still asleep, so he decided to do another thing he had planned for the day. He left the old man's house and ventured out of the village and into the forest nearby, arriving in front of a thick tree and beginning to hack away at it with his spear. Soon the spear was cut at the base and Kai was staring at it trying to figure out the best way about making what he desired. As he stared, a prompt appeared with a [Crafting] menu.
[Crafting possible; 6 wooden spear, 3 wooden shield.]
Seeing this, Kai figured that he no longer needed to forage for sticks and could simply chop down trees for his purposes. The thing he wanted to make though wasn't a spear or a shield, so he began splitting the log into sizeable planks that were roughly a metre long.
[Wooden Plank: +1 strength, crudely done. Inferior material.]
Laughing at the systems condescending attitude on his skill, he used the system to change the rest of the log into planks, gaining 8 strength points for 8 planks. Then he found a boulder and began finishing off sharpening his carving knife that he couldn't yesterday because of the interruption of the slime. Soon a completed stone knife was in his hands with a rough wooden handle and a barely sharp enough stone blade.
[Stone Carving Knife (poor): +5 dexterity. Crudely done, could be considered barely passable.]
Seeing this, he grabbed all but one of the 8 planks he had crafted and placed them on that stone boulder and said "Crafting" out loud, a menu appearing before him instantly. The menu had the same suggestions as before but without the wooden planks and with the addition of the [Stone Carving Knife] so he made as many carving knifes as possible which produced 15 knifes and upped his dexterity to a whopping 95. His dexterity was now his highest stat and although he could up the others, he had more pressing matters that needed attention, after all he planned to create a wall to surround the village later which would up his strength by leagues. Focusing back on his work, he grabbed the remaining plank and got to work with his new carving knife. His work now was much, much faster than before as his dexterity had increased by a factor of 7.5 so he was able to finish the carving within 5 minutes of starting. The result was a cane that was rough but uniform. He promptly began sanding away and was soon done within 10 more minutes from then.
[Wooden Cane (Poor): +5 wisdom, crudely made. Can be used for walking or maybe to hit something with.]
Surprised, Kai never expected his gift to the village chief for giving him a room was actually solving one of the questions he had. He knew that some tools would give different attributes but wasn't able to figure out what would give wisdom, but it seemed the cane was enough. The next thing he did was chop down another tree and make the maximum number of canes which was 8 canes which upped his wisdom stat to 61. With his newfound wisdom, his head felt clearer than it had ever been while his thoughts were at a far faster speed than before. He could also feel his senses be enhanced as he could hear the village all the way from where he was. He could also hear the sloppy plopping of a slime in the vicinity as he quickly dashed over, activating his mana sense to find it before promptly killing it. The slime was another blue slime but was level 2, bringing him 10 EXP and levelling him up once again. Listening for a bit, he couldn't hear any more slimes, so he ran back to the village and went up to the village chiefs house.
Opening the door after it was knocked on, the old man was shocked when staring at the young man he had given a room yesterday who now stood in front of him with 8 canes overflowing from his person. Kai tried to bring them all as he stuck them through his clothes at various angles while holding the rest in his hands and arms and even one in his mouth. The old man chuckled before letting him in to the house as Kai dropped all the canes on the floor except one which he handed to the old man. The old man but his old stick to a side and began examining the cane that Kai had crafted for him. The cane was much smoother and well-shaped than the rough old stick he was using before and was the right size for the old man's body, helping him walk much smoother than before.
"Thank you, young man, this is a wonderful gift!" the old man thanked with tears in his eyes as the two made their way to the breakfast table.
"It's only right that I help you out after you help me out, haha. I made a few spares if you ever break one or two." Kai said as he found his wisdom stat increasing helped him learn the language here far quicker as he was able to hold a conversation after just remembering what he taught him yesterday.
"Haha, a few spares? You made an entire tree worth! By the way, you seem like you've learnt our language already, huh? You must be a very smart one. We weren't able to introduce ourselves yesterday, I'm Jeff. I was the strongest hunter in this village in my prime, but I lost a leg to a bear further down and decided to retire. With my experience I was able to guide the village and thus they appointed me as the Village head and still listen to my words even now." As old man Jeff explained his story, a notification appeared before Kai.
[Side Quest: Defeat the bear that took Jeff's leg.
Reward: Jeff will swear to serve you, you will be accepted as the strongest in the village, blueprint for sanding equipment.]
Kai read through the quest rapidly before returning to the conversation, knowing it would be a while before he could defeat the bear after checking Jeff's stats. Jeff had 130 points in strength and 150 in vitality but he still lost a leg to the beast, so Kai planned to go after he had finished doing construction for the village and crafting better weapons.
