Sometimes, when you scream at someone, the only valid response you want to hear is an explanation by the way. The explanation was something that Joyce did not receive immediately after she screamed which gave her the opportunity to sit down and down the chair away from her husband as she tried to catch her breath.
She covered her face with her hands and tried to calm down. It was the best she could think of doing in the situation. Screaming at Adrian is not going to get her anywhere other than inducing him in a fight she did not want.
What she wanted were answers and they were not going to get delivered the way she was behaving. She had to be tactful.
